- I have been flying RC planes for 20 + years, into RC boats for about 10 years. When I was 12 years old I bought a plan or a 12 foot outrigger boat. I built it with my dad's help. It called for a 9 hp engine but my neighbor gave me a 15 hp. My dads Ski boat with an inboard 454 did 55, I flew by them ! my dad governed the engine, but I have always wondered how many kids my age had boats that did over 50 mph!
