Man - this brings back memories. This was my second kit back in school (1979). The 1st was a ??? Fledgling (also a nice design) which sadly lasted half a flight. The Kav always flew beautifully. I'd throttle back into the wind and just hover. Looking at earlier pics of the fuse, it occurs to me this one would be pretty easy to convert to low-wing - make the cutout below, add a small turtledeck above, and trim it up. Has anyone here ever tried this? I'm starting to get interested in a reprise now.

Like many of the contributors to this thread, I too have built several Sig kits. Kadet Jr., which is still flying 32 years later, Kougar, King Kobra, Fazer, which is my absolute favorite plane hands down, and an Astro Hog.

My 7-year old has expressed an interest in RC. He has been on the Kadet Jr. on a trainer cord this summer a little bit. I just ordered a Kavalier from the LHS. I hope he will shadow me as I build this kit over the winter. If he develops an appreciation for kit building, that would make me very happy. He has already talked about designing the color scheme. It's cute.

Even though I have a few ARFs, I value kit building!! We need to do what we can to keep the kit builders in the hobby.

Power will be an old OS 45 FSR which was handed to me by an old friend. I will bench run the engine and determine how healthy it is. It may need bearings. I already changed the HS needle valve O ring. the old one crumbled as I removed it.

I figure if he doesn't flourish in the hobby, I will fly happily fly the Kavalier.

Default Electric Conversion

This old one was converted to electric with a Power 32 motor. Flies great.

A club-mate built this one last winter. It is powered by a DYS 3548 900 kv motor.

After significant fuselage repairs from a late June crash. It needed a new cowl as well. Flies great again. Weighs all of 5.41 lbs flight ready.
