CARF Mephisto Build thread

Few pictures of my installation, turbine weight will affect where things end up. What ever you will never need weight to make a Mephisto balance! I may swap to slightly smaller Rx packs, the 3350's I have allow 9-10 flights on a charge which would be a really good days flying.

Conditions were not the best for either test flight (low cloud base) so feeling the actual power available was not really possible, I guess it depends what you want to do with the model. For general flying, tumbles and Pin Wheel type things, the 220 is more than enough, the 310 fills the ducting and even CARF feel the turbine might be a little restricted without additional byepass air. If the KT 260 is smaller in OA dia then it would be a good choice. Lots of the videos of Marcus flying it has the Frank 250 turbine.

Yes, the pipe is an option. Although I don’t think we have done a vector free pipe yet, its possible. CARF guys fly with the vector on all the time...
i test flew mine with it off, only switched it on to test the gyro setting. Flying around and pattern Aeros you hardly notice it.
Yes, MAP Hi Flow with twin inlets. It’s a new version for twin saddle tanks, works perfectly with no air and no noticeable necking at full power. We have run the std Hi flow MAP with 220Rxi and P-200Rx ( both 230N) and no issues
Im not a fan of the hard walled bubble traps that give you little info on the state of you fuel system, I only have to run this at full power periodically and i’ll see if there are any restrictions developing. I have Felt clunks in both Saddle tanks.

Done for get that as the pipe heats it expands so trim changes on the vector. It's a big pipe and it grows more that I expected, CARF say 2mm expansion. I adjusted the pushrods so the vector was square hot, when the model is cool you notice the vector is out slightly.

Couple of more shots off my phone of the instal. Tanks from the wing opening (centre section will mostly stay attached) and the duct space around the P-220Rxi-B

Couple of people asked about storage. This is the model gear up (still roll on wheels onto the shelf) rear fuse and outer wings off.
The canopy is full length so removing it reduces the height considerably. The Canalizer also unbolts with 2 x M4 cap screws.

Another couple of flights today on the Mephisto, too cold to really enjoy-but more valuable set up knowledge. It was quite bumpy in the 15-20mph wind we had. Landing on our 120m grass strip is so easy, its so slow there is little roll out.
Pictures of it in my short wheelbase van which is 2.5m long. Canopy protects the tail cone.
Should have some flying shots in the next couple of days-Pistol Pete had his camera there.

Just for anyone ordering - Revoc have worked with CARF to make wing and fuselage covers which take in to account how things like flaps come off and the fus comes apart. I've got a set on the way for mine when it comes and some for Dave to help with moving and storage. They should be pretty helpful to protect from transport and storage rash.

The first of three customers Mephisto's is here after a shipping mess up. Satin finish looks cool, but will need careful handling.
220 going in this one initially, may add a 300 later for hovering!
