RE: Skyshark Aichi (VAL) Build
Due to a major server crash yesterday the UK site has had to be rebuilt, and the link given at the begining of this thread is now incorrect, please follow this link for the full build, but I will keep putting updates here as well

RE: Skyshark Aichi (VAL) Build
Awesome! I have been wanting a Val for years, I would definitely be interested in purchasing a set of the larger plans when they are done.... and although i'm not big on .60-sized stuff these days, i think i will grab one of these, just to have! Following your construction thread with great interest,

I was wondering if you will be able to replace the servo's in case one happens to fail? I was also wondering if you were planning on concealing the elevator and rudder controls within the confinds of the tail? How scale are you planning on making this model. It seems that it will go together quickly, the work comes with the finish. When you do your scale details can you post some pics so we can see how she is coming. I have never seen an R/C Val before and it looks to be a great Warbird. I was also wondering about the flap servo. Is it totaly closed in or can you get at it from the top of the wing? And those conections from the belcranks to the flaps. Will it be difficult to find the clevis even after using the fuel tubing. Could you make a removeable hatch in those area's as well. Sorry for all the questions, it just seems that all the servo's are buried as well a the linkages. Your pics are great and we do appreciate seeing them. Keep up the good work, looking forward to seeing the finished product.
Craig.

RE: Skyshark Aichi (VAL) Build
Hi Craig, sorry for the dealy in replying, work has taken me away from home.
The servos are held in with hex screws (http://www.modelfixings.co.uk and look for servo screws), and there will be a hatch to get access to both the aileron and flap servos. The bellcranks shouldnt be a problem with the wing on its edge the tubing hengs down, and pushing the wire into the tube is very easy, once in the tube just push and turn till the thread engages.
I want to hide as many control links as possible.
I will be starting on the Fuz on Saturday, when I return (I cant wait).

RE: Skyshark Aichi (VAL) Build
Before applying the bottom sheeting, I though I better install the engine/mount, otherwise I'd need fingers like an old witch (small but very long) to reach upto the rear of the firewall. The engine (RCV 58-CD), is being mounted at an angle to get the exhaust and head close to the bottom of the cowl (picture upside down).

If anyone is reading this thread, I've now added the wing-fillets and the tail fin, so she now looks like a warbird

RE: Skyshark Aichi (VAL) Build
Planes of Fame in Chino, California have a complete Val undergoing a slow rebuild to flying condition. I think the airplane will use an American engine but the airframe is substantially original. This airplane was originally restored and flown by Bob Diemert in Canada sometime in the '70s I believe, although the term "restored" can only be used loosely. I'm sure it will be a stunner when PoF get it put back together.

RE: Skyshark Aichi (VAL) Build
Hi Graham, Havnt been a member of a forum before today, not sure what I am doing or how to do it. I am currently building a Skyshark avenger. ( just glass clothed it, painting soon ) Laser 120 for urge.
I have been looking forward to the release of the Val and have requested Father Christmas to provide.. I was looking around the net for info and found your build sequence. Looks good , and very familiar !
I have taken photos as I went along but dont know how to post them as yet !
Have you tried Inwood models for a pilot ? They list 9th scale Japanese in there catalogue at £ 4.20, they are latex. I have a 9th US from them in the TBM.
Only a bust though, if you want a full figure try Petes Pilots. advertises in the back of the Mags.
