I recently got a great deal on a "bench run only" 180GK. I could tell it had been run a little more than claimed and cleaned up. Turns out it had brand new bearings and wouldn't run, just spat the prop. Yep, cam timing was off. Hee hee. I love it when people sell out cheap when their engine won't run after an overhaul.

It does not appear so, interestingly, Clarence says that the valve timing of the 180 is a little, (wilder) in that the overlap period is 80 degrees, whereas the 150's overlap is 65 degrees. Replacement parts lists all say the 120 through 220 cams are all the same. Hmmmm.
Being one of the latest big block Saitos, the FA-180 has had very few if any revisions that I am aware of. The FA-120 on the other hand has seen a mryiad of changes. Cam specs is one . The cherished "Fat head", the dual pluggers, several intake tube variations.Even the muffler variety. They could be a collector's favorite subject.

goos idea the Saito club
Dears, i have a 120s, more than 10 years working in my CAP 232 from TNT models from Argentina, a few days ago I desassemble, for change gasquets and ball bearings, mow i working again like new brand.
my others engines are gas engines, but glow i have only my loved Saito.

The props are hung up somewhere, I hope the USPS hasn't smashed up the box. They were supposed to arrive today.

I've had very good luck with the USPS and UPS. If it were FedEx, I'd be worried. I'm pretty sure they take turns punting packages.
I had a female Fedex driver knock on my door last week. "I can't make it up your driveway", she said. Lol, my gravel is fairly steep but nobody else has trouble coming up here. She wanted me to guide her as she backed down the hill. It became very apparent why she had trouble. The van had an extended height top, subframe connectors and 2 wheel drive w/ traction control. As she backed down my undulating drive one wheel after the other would lift off the ground. When she finally got the thing turned around down by my shop and went to leave the traction control almost kept her from climbing the little hill there. It would slip and stop, slip and stop.......
Those rigs have no business being used around these parts.

During periods when I was out of home brew fuel I often picked up a case or two of Morgan's "Omega" fuel. Always a very reliable fuel.
I still refer new fliers to our local hobby shop and Omega fuel.
Saito 220 mushy compression
Tore down the low time 220 for inspection. Compression was mushy and it's weak on peak power.
The ring gap (crater) measures .009" anywhere up and down the cylinder bore. It should be between .005"-.006" for a 38mm bore. This is not the reason for the mushy compression or power loss however.
The bore measures 38 mm, piston measures 37.96mm. Both are very round but the ring is worn A LOT near the gap and unevenly worn everywhere else. In fact there are areas of the ring which appear to make no contact with the cylinder at all. The ring is simply not round. RJM ring on order!
The carbon buildup is from an improperly working electronic gas conversion setup. That problem has been resolved. The cylinder and valves will be cleaned up before reassembly.

Morgan's fuel has always been very popular in Michigan. Of course Cool Power gets a pass here, in favor of their Omega fuel.

Here, for 4 strokes, it's Omega and Cool Power mixed 50/50. Essentially Omega with reduced castor content. Works great, valve lash takes a looooong time to open up. I have never used straight Coolpower so can't remark.
YS engines are the best thing since sliced bread, ya know? That question is rhetorical of course.
