Great Job...

Anton,
Is that the production or prototype weight? 8.8lbs for ordnance seems a lot when you have saved so much weight in the rest of the model??
Do you have pics of the painted ordnance yet? And anything from the paint factory of my A-10 yet?

Mark

Alex,
That really finishes things off - especially the paint inside the nacelles.
That's a lot of decals!! Waterside or dry

Ralle has been a little generous with these decals so not all of them will be used. He recommended water slides for the ordnance as dry rubs would struggle with the tight curves etc... Having statred with them he was right. Dry rubs for the airframe and water slides for the gear and ordnance is the way to go.
Cheers

Mavericks are nearly done, notice the visible decal carrier sheet outline, This will disappear once a water-based clear is applied.

Sweet!
I wish we had another pair of these mavericks, instead of those rocket launchers.... I hate those damn things [:@] I always think they look like they are the wrong scale..
I think its fair to say that I am getting that tad, slightest bit excited now!
Regards Al

Ive modified the cluster bomb slightly to fit on the pylon where the rocket launchers go, Its not scale but then I don't suppose you mind Let me know if you want me to go ahead and do both. There's loads of white decals on these bombs which is scale but I cant help thinking its a bit much and seeing that its not going into a scale comp what do you guys reckon? I've still got the end portion of the bomb to paint.

Love it thanks.
I do think there are a few too many white rectangles on them mind.... Mavericks look nice and detailed. What does the hand written text on them say?

I'll take some of the white placards off, I didn't really like how they had turned out. I'll add some more yellow text to the other side too. I'm pleased with the Mavericks if I had more time I'd cut the nose off and make a clear plastic part with a little internal detail but If I want it finished soonish the black nose will have to stay. Just been called out to work today so no more progress until Sunday It's nearly there just the ordnance and a few little bits on the airframe and its yours...

Ordnance is all done, I'm just waiting for it to stop raining so I can do the clear. The sidewinders are OK but they are the least impressive out of all the ordnance. I need to re mount them on the rack as the way SM have done it they don't line up with each other. They could do with the fins being cut off and new sets applied from D4S. I know I'm a bit fussy but it would look better...
I got a PM regarding the strut compression under full weight and the gear door set up so I've attached a picture.

Hello Alex48:
The main struts compression in your picture is OK. In fact, compare to real thing, it is still a little higher. The other thing that I find in your pictures is that you'd better to rotate the brake 180 degree to place the brake line nipple on the downside to avoid the nipple be damaged by compressed strut and please inflat the main tires to 143mm of diameter.

Hi Likai
I've forgotten about pumping the tires to that diameter, thanks...
I turned the hubs around as I didn't like the brake line so visible, it doesn't snag the nipple even at full compression but I'll double check again. I use the small bore BVM brake tubing which is much better and more discrete than the 3mm SM clear tubing that's supplied.
Cheers, Alex

Its nearly there now
All the ordnance is finished, I just need to repair the cockpit as it was damaged in transit (again [:@]), glue the little scale details on, make a cradle and do a few little jobs. When I do another the aerials will be the first thing I do, this way I could make them removable. Unfortunately its not possible to do this now as everything is already installed. Its a shame because no matter how careful you are they are going to get knocked off at some point.

Alex, looks very nice indeed - even more incredible is you work in a small room which always seems immaculate!
One question, did you get a chance to measure the fan diameter for me?

No not the camera as I've been using my SLR recently with a fast lens so the pictures are a decent representation (in post 235) even though they are taken at night under artificial light. Luckily Alis seen the model and likes it so far. The base coat on the gear like the full size in this scheme is grey not white which is why they might appear to darker if you were expecting a white gear.

Hi Marc
The diameter of the fan unit is 153mm and depth around 70mm. Please don't use these dimensions to fabricate anything because they're not accurate but should give you a rough idea. Perhaps someone else with a set of fans that aren't installed could give some accurate dimensions.
I do all the building in a spare bedroom, it's a little tight at 4/4 meters but its warm...........the only down side is its on the third floor and most of my customers take the piss when they visit, well mainly Ali but I wouldn't expect anything less If it starts to get messy I cant find a thing.

Marc,
If you need exact dimensions, my A-10 should be here before Bickley so you can bring your calipers and measure the fans before I fit them. You can then also admit what you're up to to need the dimensions
Cheers
