I have noticed a quirk also, site has been working pretty good at night for me.

How do you like working with the 1/16" sheeting Vincent, it doesn't give much to sanding and will thin out very fast as you well know. Sure looks good thow.

I have never had that happen to me but I know a couple of guys that screwed up a good sheeting job using bags of shot that do not apply flat equal pressure and deformed the whole wing , lesson learned. Magazines will conform to compound surfaces when laid on them in such a way the binding don't interfere.

There definitely is a learning curve to working with such thin balsa, it takes a little more precision and care but I think I'm getting used to it. LOL, there's not much to sand on the sheeting!

Don't fret Vincent, if all goes as planned, next week it is going bye-bye. I find on thin balsa sheeting it is easiest to sand it smooth before installing. All that leaves is the trimming up which does not typically affect the surface strength.

Old phone books or industrial catalogues work well to and at 1 to 2 inches thick they evenly add weight where needed. One of my favorite tips has been to use wax paper as a barrier against the glues and epoxies we use. Lay it over your plans and you can see right through it and the wax keeps the plans from getting glued to your work. Lay it down before adding the weights to your project and they lift right off without sticking. The best wax paper is made by Cutright as it has more wax in its construction. Some of the cheaper brands allow the glue to seep through.

Keep up the good work Vincent I enjoy the pictures.

Sheeting on the wing has been completed and now it's time to start the aileron. Sanding still needs to be completed, but I will tackle that later. Here are some shots of the wing half.[/QUOTE

I was able to post a little while ago. No problem. Hopefully it's straightened out again, for now.

Well the build must go on, Vincent will have more pictures by the time they get it working again, or maybe I should say, he will have more done, bummer on the picts.

Well gang the only way I could get pictures to post is if I opened RCU in Google Chrome. I was told that there was nothing wrong, but I respectfully disagree because I never had to opened Google Chrome before to post pics...

I posted some pics a few posts back so you can check them out there. All of the blocking has been made and fitted so tonight I'll glue the ailerons leading edge on then move to making all of the diagonal bracing.

I have to be honest, I'm at my limit as far as putting up with the "improvements" being made on this site, close to throwing in the towel. This is supposed to be fun, I have enough grief and drama at work, I don't need it here...sorry, I had to vent...

I can understand the frustration where the pict's. are concerned, this being the biggest RC web site there should not be those kind of problems that keep cropping up. I don't know what Google Chrome is or how to use it but will try and post some pictures tomorrow on the SW thread, hope it works.

Google chrome is that annoying new browser that everytime you get an update from Adobe or other software companes they try to sneek it in on your update and make it your default browser. Sorry, but I hate any company trying to sneak their stuff into my computer, I have enough problems with it as it is.

Hey fellas! I know there are some good builders visiting VJ's thread and I hope he don't mind me asking a question here. On my big Pitts build I had to set the rudder a 1/2" rearward of the center of throw. This is creating slop in the pull-pull system, so "Has anyone ever used springs on a pull-pull to maintain tension"?

You do not have to worry about it, the aero forces keeps it tight.

Do you mean the control horns are not lined up with the hinge line of the rudder?

My concern was more related towards center with flutter. What I have done was make what I call a servo differential wheel. You can see it here,

Well finally the pictures are posting as they were...let's hope they (RCU) quits fiddling with it.

All of the diagonal bracing as been cut and fit in the aileron, I will glue the top sheet on this evening so I can sand down the leading edge in the morning.

Nice work VJ looks just like the other side. It's snowing here so thought I'd come in here and pester the web pages. Your making pretty good time on the plane. Should be a fun time come spring with 3 new planes to fly.

Here's what the aileron now looks like. I still have to install the hinges and bevel the aileron's leading edge.

Before I sheeted the counterbalance on the aileron I wanted to show you where and how much lead weight is attached to it. The weight helps prevent flutter of the aileron. Once the weight was installed I poured some epoxy over it to make the bond permanent...

When I balanced mine Vincent it took a bit more than 3/4 oz to get the aileron to balance neutral. I had mine hinged and kept adding lead until the aileron would stay where ever it was positioned. That doesn't look to be near enough lead to neutralize that aileron. I noticed the leading edges of your counterbalances are tapered to the leading edges. The pictures I have of the full size the leading edge is the same thickness of the wing cross section where it meets and is only rounded to match the arc the leading edge moves. I made this change as well as adding tip plates like the pictures I had. The elevator was done the same way. I don’t know if this made any difference but I was pleased with how it flew. Keep up the good work and pictures.

Thanks Dennis, the amount of weight that I added is what was specified for in the plans (3/4 oz.).

The drilling and fitting of the hinges are now complete. Time to sand a 60 degree bevel on the aileron's leading edge.
