RE: Official HPI E-10 Thread
Hello E10 owners!
I was wondering if you could help me with my issue. When I fully turn the steering wheel to the right or to the left and give full throttle, the car makes a nasty coffee grinder noise, coming from the front. Hop ups I've installed: alloy prop shaft, atomic alloy steering kit, atomic alloy diff lock. I was hoping that the atomic steering kit would fix this problem, but it didn't.
Have anyone experienced anything like this?
Thanks in advance!

hummmm...
just wondering where is the atomic difflock? front or rear?
does it make the noise wheen its going straight???
2 things pop in to my head straight away, it could be a broken fake brake disc (but it normally when this happens it just pulls one way when going straight)
if it only does it on full lock, when turning: it could be turning the hup to much for the stock dogbones & thay might be just about to pop out. have a play & see if u can turn nearly all the way to one side with out the noise? also does it do it only one way??
another thing to check if its set up for drift, doubble check the front tiny main shaft from the gearbox to see if its in the right way (if not the bearing race can move, causing laterial
slop in the pinion gear)
theck those things then let us know how ya went

"just wondering where is the atomic difflock? front or rear?"
both.
"does it make the noise wheen its going straight???"
no, only on full locked steering.
"it could be a broken fake brake disc"
nope, checked that.
" it could be turning the hup to much for the stock dogbones"
this could be the case, however the front dogbones are replaced by atomic ones.
"doubble check the front tiny main shaft from the gearbox"
that's algo a good idea, I installed 12 ball bearings, but didn't have any idea where to put the remaining 2, now I know
The car is set up for drifting, but the motor is in the touring position, since I don't see any upside of moving it to the front.
Thanks for the advices!

the upside of having the motor up front it keeps the rear end light for tighter drifting. but its persolal preferance really
hummmm.... can u adjust how far the servo moves on your transmitter? is it the stock one?
& just wondering are u running a hpi servo??
how did the noise start happining? did it just start up one day or been doing it for a while?
im still leaning to wards the dogbones, maby remove & inspect them to be shure & doubble check the diff make shure all 3 bearings are fitted correctly & also make shure the inner & outer hub bearings are fitted correctly

"can u adjust how far the servo moves on your transmitter?"
yes, and that's what Ido, but then I loose the ability to drif in small circles, am Iright?
"are u running a hpi servo?"
stock transmitter, stock servo.
"how did the noise start happining?"
honestly, I'd say it started happening when I replaced the main shaft with alloy one, but maybe I just didn't pay attention to it until then.
"maby remove & inspect them "
that's what I'm gonna do, I have to install 2 more bearings anyway.

has any used the the hot racing E10 48p 72t aluminum spur im gonna get the stock spur gear is a weak link in the e10 iv went through about 6 plus it 72t not 65t like stock so you can get different gear ratios and handle brushless better

I'd like some information on that part... I have my e10 shelved atm because i HATE that spur gear... i'd go drifter on it if that gear would be less "failboat"

RE: Official HPI E-10 Thread
hummmm ive never had any problems with the gears, i even ran a 13 double turn on 11.1v lipo (dont recomend) the most common problem with gear damage on any r/c car is the motor gear moving off the spur/counter gear. Normally this is due to incorrect tension on motor mount bolts/screws.
Are u guys shure the gears have been meshed correctly? correct pinion gear? & did u check the motor mounts to see if thay are tight? mount up the right way?
If u can post a pic of the damaged gear i can let u know how it failed, Im suspecting that the mount adjusting screw had come loose or was loose from day one saying that a alloy gear is not going to solve the problem.
ive never had much luck with alloy gears thay are noisy & wear out faster (this is from first hand experance with a tamiya tl01 brushless & a GV 2000 nitro) oh & when thay wear slightly thay fill the gearbox up with alloy powder & it mixes into the greese causing even more wear. maby not such a problem with the e10 it does not have greese.
I would searously look into why the gears are failing & whats the cause it.
i know some prople wont agree but just think there is lots of other cars with alot more power running plastic gears, i would get the upgraded motor mount first & use locktight on all the screws & after each use check the gear mesh
Victorpictor let us know how ya go with the bearings

the products are at hotracing.com the spurs come in 73t & 78t im gonna give them a try with the aluminum motor mounts because im thinking of putting my 6900kv brushless in this car

lol nice, is it a 550 size can?
*thinking it might be to fast, but im shure it would be fun,
ok thats it time to convert my e10 to brushless & fit that damm alloy mount

"Victorpictor let us know how ya go with the bearings "
Installed all 14 bearings, sadly nothing has changed.
Another disturbing thing: just bought a 4600 mAh battery pack and it lasts about 10 minutes, I almost broke up in tears. Maybe it has something to do with the noise? Or maybe rc drifting is not my sport?

what gears are you running right now i still have my brushed 10t motor in on a 3000mah pack with a 19t pinion and i get more then 10 minutes im not big on top end in r/c like torque

RE: Official HPI E-10 Thread
try to go with a smaller pinion my e10 is on the shelf right wanting on my aluminum spur and motor mount im going with the smallest pinion that will work due to the fact of the power the 6900kv mamba max has im still new to r/c but from what i see brushless gives you more of a balance of speed & torque.

hummm.. good luck with the alloy gear, ya gonna need it. but we learn from our mistakes
if u have a high power motor i wouldent go with the smallest pinion (it woud have no speed & stupidly excessive torque)
ya do know the Kv is not the power, it has more to do with the rpm
if u run that motor on 7.4v lipo it would do about 51,060rpm the stock motor is about 15,000rpm-20,000rpm but the bushless motor has heaps more power & torque.
saying that i think the motor will might be suited to a off road car with large wheels
u could problary run a 35t pinion & it would be the fastest e10 ever
maby think about a lower kv motor if u want it driveable

I have changed where the motor is for drift got my drift tyres aswell but still cannot get it to drift just spins out!! does putting those spacers you get make it drift or what because I am away at the moment from where I live got my car with my and yeah just really need some help with it please.
all the pictures of everyones cars they have put up are great really got some nice ideas

RE: Official HPI E-10 Thread
Lame beginner's technical question: I've been watching lots of rc drift videos, and still couldn't find out when to pump the throttle and when to give constant throttle at some level? A friend of mine told me not to pump it, but in almost every video they do. Can anyone reveal it to me?

nar m8 its not lame, im no professional, but what works for me, is when u want the drift to start, go full throttle & turn, then its just a matter of how much more power to give it.
I would recomend practicing going around some coke cans & set up a minny track & even do big ringies, try this at diffrent throttle positions & u will get a good feel for the car (dont feel bad if this takes over 2 week to master) the more u practice the better u will get, when u have that sused that try doing figure 8's, thay are one of the hardest things to do & when mastered drifting will be easy in comparison

hey dont let the snow stop u, ive spent manny night drifting out of the kitchen into the family room, then around the coffee table. its only 2 turns but its fun, my wife hates it but my son loves it.
try carpet drifing... its faster & scaryer
