I'm not sure if this link will work Nick but this is my Mig taking off a couple of weeks ago.
I'll try to get more video in the next few weeks.

Nice scale take off.
my favorite jet and also the A/D SU 27, 35. I have them all.
my Mig 29 will be ready for maiden this summer.
How do the gear handle on the grass ? Are they the original?
thanks, Nick

Yes Nick i have a soft spot for Russians as well.
The gear itself is the original but the system is the Hausl unit. After plenty of testing and fine tuning in the early stages it now works perfectly every time.
The biggest problem i had was the nose leg collapsing during taxi tests. As i had the old cylinders with no internal lock, i had to create a hydraulic lock outside of the cylinder. With advice from a mate who is a jet modeler and hydraulic engineer, i came up with a system using both the top and bottom rams together with a festo pilot check valve soldered onto the top of the lower ram with a brass tube between the cylinder and the check valve. I also used some 600 psi rated hydraulic hose on the loaded sections.
8 flights mostly off smooth grass and so far so good.
Regarding the cg. This photo shows three settings. The black one (forward) is the setting i believe David was referring too. The green one (rear) is where Thomas Singer has his. I have flown at both and am happy with the current location almost in the middle (orange). I don't have the chaff dispensers on my Mig for cg reference as the gentleman i purchased it from was going to do a scheme that didnt have them. I think hes still trying to find them so i will add them at a later date. The measurements are: forward setting (black)- 3.3cm forward of the leading edge of the forward wing tube, middle setting (orange)- 2 cm forward, rear setting (green)- 1cm forward.
Before my maiden David, Thomas and Jorge Escolona were all kind enough to return my emails answering my questions with some valuable feeback. Some other high profile rc pilots that have flown the Mig were not so kind.
It is hard to get info Nick as im sure you're aware so let me know if i can help with anything.
Regards
Levi

Hi Matt,
Levi and I both have new axle blocks that have a longer insert into the lower part f the main leg. I inserted mine with red locktite and cross drilled for a retention bolt. Not sure if Levi did the same.
Levi, great info mate. Glad to hear she is behaving. Mine has been sitting on her gear for 6 months with no sagging....

Thanks Matt. I did exactly as Craig said.
Craig that's a solid gear test mate. My nose leg would sag in less than half that time. I must have a slow internal leak through the cylinder as there has never been any oil leaking externally. Now that's it's working so well though I'm too scared to open up that can of worms again to fix it. 😁

My Mig was taxi-Ing for take off when the nose wheel steering servo stripped its gearbox. BUT the gear is working to perfection now. I am not sure if the warm temp( 26) or more air has exited the lines but the retraction time is down to about 6 seconds, extends in 5, perfect. Certainly, using dual lines in the gear up and down lines has helped.
I carried out about 20 gear cycles with both engines running, the load from the hyd. Pump did not reduce the engine ecu battery voltage significantly ( the hyd pump is powered from an engine ecu battery ) and engines continued to operate normally.
As as soon as I replace the nose steering servo with a metal geared item it will be ready to go again.
David.

Hi David,
Are you using the Hausl system? Can you elaborate on your dual lines set up? Are you splitting the output from the pump with a Y-fitting then dual lines back into a Y just before the cylinder?
Regarding the nose wheel steering, are you using the latest servo mount on the retract? I made one up using aluminium plate to replicate the carbon mount that was issued with the later kits.

Hi Craig, You guessed right and dual lines certainly help, it's all working really well.
The steering servo is mounted on the upper Y of the leg using a carbon plate and two BVM Carbon right angles, similar to the CARF mod.
Servo is now a 9401 which has metal gears, al ready to go again !

Hi David. Have you had any issues with the main wheels not wanting to go in that last little bit on the retraction cycle? At what pressure are you running your hydraulics?
#238
They go all the way in but the last little bit is a struggle, alignment of the gear mounts is CRITICAL ! I am using the Hausl pump at 10 bar , 150 psi.

The Mig flew on Saturday, everything worked perfectly. Just need increased angle on nose steering servo.
A slight crack was found on one of the fin mounts, easily fixed, otherwise, no problems.
She will be airborne again next Saturday, can't wait !
Twin JetCat 140 RXIs certainly give plenty of performance !!

I my self in the other hand , I gave my Mig to be build and this guy destroyed the airplane . He had it for two years and did not completed and what ever he build , he did it wrong . For example he did not install the fuel tanks in stead he put the hydraulic valves in the place, he made the upper intakes open out like air brakes,he put the back air breaks the wrong way , bottom one up and upper one down , on and on at list ten mistakes . I need to take the airplane a part to do it correct. He got me for $3000.00 in building and destroy the jet . What should I do?

Thanks, mate,. It's all ready to go after some work on the brakes, ( one of the rubber discs had burned up) not a very good design. I'll try and get some video on Saturday.
If if all goes well , I will refresh the paint, install a cockpit and all details.
Yes the two 140s are just spot on.
I have given the the airframe a thorough inspection and all looks good, so roll on Saturday !
This is a seriously good airframe and I am determined to bring it to as near mechanical perfection as I can make it.

sorry to hear about your poor builder experience. I can tell you from my personal experience build my Mig that it's a complex project with very poor technical information to go on. Every time I thought something was straight forward and should be easy turned out to be the opposite. There are pictures in this thread on my build. My Mig is not finished but I want get back on it. If you need to talk let me know.

Thank you John,
I put it on the side too. I hope I get some time this Winter to reverse the mistakes and finish it soon, may be by next Summer.
Now, I am working on my AD Diamond that I just got. I want to finish this for Route 66 Jets which is on the 10th of September .

Let me know if you need any help fixing things. The Mig is a fantastic model. I truly enjoy working on mine. I'm currently building an Su. Love those Russian jets.
