Just two pictures of my Extra now when the "paint-job" is done (vinyl!)
I only have a few flights on it by now.

Nice paint scheme, I nearly got a Krll Katana in that scheme but it was just a little too much money. I have just picked up an old 2.6 330 Extra that has seen some action but will be a good companion/winter hack for my EF 110 YAK. Out of interest how much does your Compy weigh with the extra paint? Mine has been repainted and I think it will come out at a flying weight of 28lbs dry, which is obviously quite a bit more than the original. Not that I am too worried as it will be a through around plane!

I haven't painted it. It's just plain white and then with the red and blue vinyls on it.
Ready for take-off including 1 liter (34 OZ) gasoline and 1 liter smokefluid etc it weighs 15 kg (33 lbs). It´s a bit heavy but flies ok. (I guess it's about 29,5 lbs dry)

Awesome paint job.
I have been extremely impressed with mine, especially as the airframe is probably 7 years old. Have a DA100 up front and running 2 x A123s into a Spektrum AR9100 and single Futaba 9156s on the wings and it performs really well. Probably quite a bit heavier that the original stock version as it has been repainted but seems to fly well.

RE: Composite-Arf 2.6 Extra 330
hello,
i have an extra 330 2m60 composite arf shulman sheme, and i would know if anyone have used tuned pipes on a DA100 and mejzlik 28/10 install and also i have put 2 jr8711 on each aileron, and 1 jr8911 on each elevator and one jr8711 on rudder with swb 1.5 arms and 4 double arm ossfet. this is enough 1 servo at the rudder ? I go with a DSPI MINI 5 MAGIC to the power system with two li-po 2800 2s .
thanks a lot guillaume charozé from france

RE: Composite-Arf 2.6 Extra 330
Hello JPHen,
I currently have a one of the old "Red Bull" 2.6 Extra 330Ls that originally had a DA-85 with standard mufflers. It had plenty of power but required moving the receiver batteries up inside the engine dome in order to get it balanced. The other thing I didn't like was the extra vibration from a large single cylinder engine. It currently has a DA-100L and I love it! Either way, I wish you the best of luck.
Regards,
Kurt

RE: Composite-Arf 2.6 Extra 330
Thanks guys. Bill, I'd be curious to see how a pipe is run on the plane. I have a MTW 110 (not the K) that won't fit if I tried (too long for the spar). I guess you can run the pipe under the spar and over the gear plate? The previous owner had a DA-100 with cans. I picked the plane up yesterday (House scheme). It's a bit worn, but I'm not too worried. I added to the 'worn-ness' by having my dog tangle me up while as I was bringing the wings to the basement. Dropped one right on the corner of the step. Spent the next hour repairing with bondo.... [:@]
Also, plan on running single 7955's throughout and 2x A123 packs for rx (2300) and one 1100 on the ignition. Hope to keep it light...

Why A123s? Aren't they much heavier than Li-Ions?

Kurt, the DA I have just came back from DA, so it does have the updates. I keep hearing that an 85 on muffler is obscenely loud, so I will try to avoid that setup if I can (but I'm not too hopeful).

[I keep hearing that an 85 on muffler is obscenely loud]
This is a little off topic but may help some so don't beat me up. I had my DA85 on a H9 Sukhoi for a while. Unbelievable power...like a 3D foamie. I was using a Silent Beauty muffler from TBM. The muffler was very light and well made and much less expensive than some of the other brands. Yes, it was loud, but to my ears no louder than any other engine of similar size on a pitts style muffler. One of the clubs I belong to moved to a new field. I wanted to be a good neighbor so I bought a header/cannister setup from DA for the 85. Very good quality stuff but when the header and cannister showed up I was surprised they were so big. I haven't run the 85 on the can yet but I recently switched out my DA100 to cans. Yes, it's quiter but the expense of the cannister setup is painful!! The cans and headers for the DA100 and 85, together, cost over $600. DA says switching in cowl mufflers to cans adds about 1 lb. and reduce RPMs by 100. JB

RE: Composite-Arf 2.6 Extra 330
Joe,
The DA-85 with a standard muffler is very LOUD! During engine warm up, you almost want to plug your ears. For whatever reason it’s more piercing than the 100cc. Anyway, if you do use the 85, pay close attention to the idle setting. I’ve seen multiple dead sticks with mine as well as others because the idle was set a little too low. The 85 just doesn’t seem to settle into a smooth and reliable idle consistently. I suggest you start out (fly) with an idle that’s a little fast initially and slowly work down from there.
The only other issue I had with mine was after about the 5th gallon of gas through it, became prone to flooding. DA’s response to me was that the 85 doesn’t always pop “choke on”. They said 3-5 flips max with choke on, then open choke and flip until it starts. BTW- That did help. Oh, mine also had all the updates.
Honestly, if it wasn’t for the fact that you’re thinking about putting one on a Comp-arf like the one I have and love, I wouldn’t have said a word. I’m not in any way trying to discourage you. I’m only sharing my personal experience with the DA-85.
I truly hope you’re thrilled with the end result.
Regards,
Kurt
