RE: Official Tamiya TT-01 Thread
I just noticed today that when I spin a rear wheel with my finger (battery unplugged), it'll spin 5+ revolutions before it stops, and it sounds very smooth. However, when I spin a front wheel with my finger, it'll only go 2 revolutions before it stops spinning, and the mechanical gear sound is very prominent. Does that mean that I need to grease the front differential some more? If so, do I grease the outside of the differential as well as the gear turned by the main driveshaft, or the gears INSIDE the differential?

most likely the gears inside the front diff. may have screwed the ring gear to the housing a wee bit tight. thats the mechanical sound. The spinning is fine, if its spins that freelyyou don't have enough grease. It lubicates the gears but its also sticky, which should stop your gears from spinning so freely...
same principle that goes into drifiting. the heavy oils or grease or whatever you to put in the diff to lock them. get what im saying?

Hey every one, I just ordered new oil filled dampers and got the heaviest oil, I'll be racing but for fun I drift, I have Tamiya racing tires and ABS tires on seprate rims... what do you guys think the best spring and/or oil setup is for the dampers?
I heard that the harder your dampers are the better they are for competetive racing but what about for drifting?
I might be completely wrong about what I just said so feel free to correct me
Thanks in advance!

I run 30 wt oil in my shocks. I am using the aluminum thread blue shocks from a FT TC3 kit on my TT-01 for drifting. They work fine - not saying it's the best but it does work.

you will only need one (for the steering) but on older models (that had MSC) you used one for throttle as well. the model you link to has an ESC.

suspension tuning has to be done on a car to car basis. in general you want soft front and hard rear springs. slightly lighter oil in front. harder in rear. gets weight to transfer to front more effectively and allow the rear to break traction easier.
much of this based on my driving style and tuning of 1:1 cars. experiment a bit to fit your driving style. also remember i drift on rubbers not abs or pvc, so technique and setup plays a much bigger role. on pvc or abs tires there so little grip that it makes only a marginally difference how your car is setup...

so you dont know what kind of configuration of the dampers stiffness would work the best for drifting?

good car. got one for my friend to start RCing with. Its a standard tt-01 kit. comes with the 101bk esc and silver can motor. the body needs to be painted and decal-ed. comes with all the stock plastic parts, no bearings.
must be a typo, it only needs 1 servo for steering.

RE: Official Tamiya TT-01 Thread
I FINALLY got my esc back from hitec, set up my car, and hit the pavement. I have to say I was very Impressed, very very impressed. I put in the aluminum drive shaft, bearings, 19t chameleon pre dyno, and proline rims w/ new radials. To my suprise it flew, and if im not mistaken it seemed just as fast as my Evader(nitro) but i doubt thats true, must be a eye trick. Ill get some pics up real soon and hopefully a video. Also, what are some good shocks for it? I heard the TRF ones but im not sure about them or where to get them, also TRF parts seem to be a little expensive sometimes.

RE: Official Tamiya TT-01 Thread
any standard touring oil filled shock will do the tt-01 just fine. the TRF ones are expensive because its the factory shocks that are used on they're more expensive racing chassis. I recommended getting standard shocks and use your money on the rest of the car, those kinds of shocks will be wasted on such a car.

calm down first of all. 2nd. what shocks do you have? you unscrew the caps on the shocks and fill them up and wait for the bubbles to come out, then close them. nothing too it.

RE: Official Tamiya TT-01 Thread
Heh, unscrewing the top of a shock/damper sounds so easy, but I'm having a bear of a time with these guys I bought for a Tamiya GT-01 Tamtech Porsche.
http://cgi.ebay.com/3RACING-FOR-TAMI...QQcmdZViewItem
It says oil-filled, and I'm pretty sure there is already oil inside (it decompresses a bit after I remove the spring and squeeze it), but I can't get the top removed to change the oil. That middle blue piece only moves up and down when you rotate it on the body of the shock changing the tension of the spring. I've tried removing the spring and the bottom piece that it pushes against, but I think I'll have to remove the cap of the shock, and I don't know how to do that without breaking it. Any help with aftermarket dampers like this? Thanks

i have those same shocks on my df03, the blue part on top is what unscrews. just hold the shock body tight and unscrew it with your hands. dont try to unscrew it from the black piece, that is held in there by the blue piece. and they do come with oil in them.

RE: Official Tamiya TT-01 Thread
I made a post yesterday that was deleted by the mods because of an ebay link
Anyway, I have these shocks, GT-09 for GT-01 chassis.
http://www.3racing.com.hk/x_descript...ducts_key=8991
I have trouble opening them up so I can change the oil. Adam C mentioned a couple posts up that he has a similar set for DF03, but I'm not sure if he was replying to my (now deleted) post or someone else's. I tried unscrewing the top blue part, but it doesn't budge. Anybody know for sure?
