Hi sammy
Fnq thats a good question and i'll bet all the people who READ this will do the usual and lay back with a smile i hope.If they are as half good as they think tuning wise it would be a lot of fun for everyone in this discussion to HEAR their opinions whether freshly expressed or not.For one i would have thought there would be heaps of people telling you what it was,i can't.But just for stupid the fuel tank has a major leak in flight brother

Where good there Old fart! I'm the one that was misunderstanding things. Don't know what you meant by the W8y-? Maybe you was thinking l was some one trying to be a smart a** or? l'm just a simple minded hillbilly from Arkansas and sometimes you got to spell it out for me. DEE,DEE,DEE, LOL... l was under the impression that l was not welcome on this site and l was hoping that l did not say anything wrong to upset some one. lf l did l did not mean to. I got 40+ yr's in model aircraft and some times l may misspell something and my spell Ck, may not catch it?? All's Good. P.S. I am still new to four cycles, (Two years into them and there a new breed to me)

The key to happiness here is to be a Saito enthusiast and discuss Saitos., mostly.
For example, the little Saito .30 is the ideal engine for the Sig LT 25.

Why on an angle? Afraid in might block the view of the pilot? I think lack of windshield may have already done that. LOL

I can splain that real good. The first engine I had on there was an Enya .25 Diesel and the muffler ran smack into the fuse. The angle mount put it just outside the fuse, not quite touching. Here is the little feller turning a Graupner 12.5x5,not bad huh. Woops, sorry about the EDIT note, I hit your edit button by accident.

A Saito using excess fuel usually has the low speed needle set too tich. The low speed needle controls the fuel mixture for about 85% of the throttle range. So, it has a huge effect on fuel economy or the lack of it. Set it with high speed needle at full peak. Since the HS needle has a fixed, (immovable) seat, it won't change while adjusting the LS needle.
Remember nick they are heavy drinkers over there so anything could have happened, just kidding fnq !
I've been everywhere looking for a rightangle breather locally and have just ordered one from HMZusa (an rc powerboat site) that sr kindly put me on to.They only state that it's a 5mm thread but after studying the thread pitch it looks close,i need a .8mm pitch so here's hoping.
Ps could we all 'borrow' hobbsys edit button for a day and see what happens ?
Sorry that should have been MHZusa, how do you get the spellcheck feature sammy ?

Fnq just in case the thread pitch on that fitting is wrong i took your idea and ordered five 90 degree grease nipples @ 5mm x .8mm pitch thread. As soon as i get them i can run the line outside the cowl and test run the fg57 in it's new home.Should sound good with the shotgun pipes.People reckon it's gonna sound like a harley but i've got my fingers crossed and hope it sounds more like my ducati

My standard takeoff was throttle up turn left and pull. Most of my 21 Kougars have died from altitudes of less than 7 feet and cartwheels. I got so good that I could tell when a Kougar was about to snap. Oh, I also used to add 1 inch to the rudder and move the whole fin assembly so the rudder hinge line was over the elevator hinge line - stopped the Dutch Roll tendency.
You mean this one?

Ok, re the engine problem, remember I said it was in a Privateer (O/T). First point I actually owned this device before I gave it to my mate so I considered myself lucky when this happened.
Old Fart you got it right it was the tank, a metal one that had corroded away in one corner. The give away was when the wing was taken off and the plane was being "placed in my mates car" he got wet feet from the fuel that flowed out of the fuselage. % bottle of Johnsons baby powder later plus numerous harsh words and a surgical removal of the tank the actual cause was discovered.
Food for thought, things aren't always what they seem. BTB the tank was at least 10 years old.

HAW!
I think mine was transsubstantiation. With the fuel lines cinched with bailing wire. The only way would be for the bubbles to pass thru the walls of the tubing.
(or maybe the new clear yellow tubing just needed to seat on the carb nipple)
Nick

I just got a Saito FA100 and put new bearings in it because the crankshaft was rusty. I polished the crank till it looked like chrome and oiled it all up real good. I wonder if its okay if I turn the carb 180 degrees so that the needle valve is pointing up when the engine is mounted sideways (with the exhaust pointing down)???? I did that with on OS91 and it worked great. Anyone?
Thanks, Airmanbob

Good luck with it bob, hobbsy has one with a new set of bearings in it too.Dave in the interests of balance can we have a picture of your harley and a few words? no disrespect mate just kidding.
Fnq a fuel leak would not be that obvious on the day considering the very small amount you carry in the tank was it 30mls? easy to get caught out in the heat of competition as you know.As a kid we flew control line with a cox .049 baby bee (i think) and soldered our own tanks up.As you know there's always a danger a small amount of water will sit in the lowest corner.
Transsubstantiation eh ?

OldFart, I have a Saito 50 & a 91 & a O.S. 90, Two Briggs & Stratton weed eater four cycle motors that I have converted one & tested it, BUT! Not installed it on a aircraft yet. I have around five Ryobi motors that I have not dun anything with yet. I see in some of the old High Flight Mag's, They use to sale the converted Ryobi four cycles, BUT! I think they where low on power for there wight?
