wow 100w shock oil on a touring car! Are you racing asphalt or carpet? Foam or rubber tires?
depending on what company it is, it could be 10wt.

Had my first race today , came 4th out of 10 on my first race even though my drive belt slid off the center pulley and was not turning. btw how do you fix that problem? on my TA-05 on the center pully there is the 2 cog things but nothing stopping them from sliding. mine just slide around sometimes. Also my ESC cable was rubbing against the rear tyres which resulted in the cord being cut clean through the middle, so that cut out my last 2 races.
belt sliding off [&:]

never heard that excuse before ... only joking, tighten your belts.

i would also move your esc cable, cablt tie it to someting

firstly well done on the result

cable ties will sort out the problem with your ESC wires rubbing on the tyres like Luke said.
tighten your drive belts, basically you need to alter the settings by a notch or two, strip the diff covers and alterthe notch settings from the standard placement, the inner bearing is off set the notches move the bearing round to different positions altering the belt, either tightening as you need, or loosening. check your build manual for more details it will also show you what needs to be taken apart to do the job.

hope that makes sense, I know what i mean...[sm=lol.gif]

thought these pics may help....

wiring, heres how I have sorted my wiring out, note: I have wired my ESC directly to the motor, this is quite simple to do and not only eleviates excess wiring but cuts down on resistance.

next are two shots of the manual to show how to adjust your belts, ignore my writing on the diagram at the bottom, i wrote those for my own reference during the build.

As for tyres,I would ask the guys at the track where you are going to race, what they run. The best first Hop Up would be a decent set of shocks, preferably a set of TRF shocks.
Don't get carried away with mods or you will end up with an 05 that looks like mine

for tires, you probably want to go with foams. they seem to offer the best grip. post #209 has some info on foam tires.

as for your first hop-ups, you might want to pick up a set of aramid belts. they are stronger and more durable than the stock belts. TRF shocks are great if you plan on racing. that should get you started.

I am still awaiting the arrival of my front shock tower, shocks and alloy turnbuckles, but, impatience got the better of me.
Made my car drivable, set up the speedy, placed a 7 cell pack in it and took it for a quick squirt up the street in front of my house.
Very impressive. I am only running about 10 degrees of timing on my Reedy 12 turn and the thing was just wheel spinning up the road.
I cannot wait to fit some decent shocks, set up the chassis and fit a body to it.
I will post some more pics when the other bits arrive and are fitted,

races start saturday.

I talked to some of the people at my local track and they have a TA05 series!

8 cars, 5 laps, 3 heats

I looked at the "roster" and it looks like i'll be going up against 4 standard TA05's, a TA05-R, and 2 TA05IFS's.

it's a stock series, 27 turns (13.5 brushless, which i'm afraid most of them are running)

it's gonna be one heck of a race. [>:]

Im interested in getting a TA05 and was wondering, is there enough difference between the Normal, IFS, R and MS to stand up to the higher price? Which on would warrant the price tag?
Also where is the cheapest place aroudn to get one.
Considering that I am in the UK, this car is not the most common. I like the way it looks and am always looking for something different, is this the best? If so, why?
Thanks
Scott

first off, will you be racing?, if not, i would not recommend the MS, get the 05R or 05IFSR (when it comes out)

i would highly recommend that you get it from www.rcmart.com

the '05 is amazing, very adjustable, loads of hop up's available for it, race winner, capable of handling brushless' (i hope, i just ordered a Novak 5.5T)

Luke.

Yes I will be racing on asphalt outdoor. with rubber. Only 27t to start with but could end up increasing power. Is it likely that there will be a new model coming out soon to replace the 05? As i really don't want to get a new car to find out that it will be replaced.

the latest TA-05IFSR is coming out soon, it's on a previous page.

it is the racing version of the TA-05IFS (with in-board front suspension), extremely cool.

the 'R' version has loads of hop-ups and mods, like the £40 TRF shocks.

Is the MS a lot better than the R? Would it be ok for club level and can it keep up with the carbon fibre chassis of the 416, Cyclone, Xray, Mi3 etc?

it is loads better than the R, especially for tarmac racing.

if you get the right motor, and gearing etc, it will be just as competitive.

what motor are you getting for it? for 27T, i recommend the Trinity CO27, or if you can use brushless, LRP or Novak 13.5T

I have seen the Trinity CO27, from Speedtech I have seen that they do a pro version that can apparently keep up with good 19t. But im not sure if it is legal here. I can race brushless, is there a big advantage or is it minimal?

BIG advantage mate, no maintinence, eg no chnaging brushes and skimming it.

what radio are you using?

if it has an adjustable end point, get a motor which is about 10.5T, then turn the speed down.

you have the option to go faster then if you race in a faster class
