Welcome to Club SAITO !

When I replaced my gas stove, I saved some of the corrugated flexible pipe that looked a lot like the Saito flex pipe. However, the fittings were different (of course) and the pipe, which was stainless steel, was coated with a yellow plastic. I don't have welding equip. or I would have tried to fit some metric Saito fittings. My guess the yellow plastic would just have burned off. But, I have heard that the Saito flex pipes do not make the engines run better, perhaps the opposite.
Sincerely, Richard

Speaking from experience, if the end of the flex pipe is unsupported for more than about 1 X the diameter, it will soon self-trim to length.
It usually takes 2 support brackets to stabilizethe flex pipes suffeciently.

Dan, I had two of the Saito flex pipes on my TS .90 and it sounded awful, it sounded too tractor like or lawnmower like. two Saito cast mufflers sounded better and two TurboHeaders even better.

I owned a hobby shop for years and sold more Saito's than Os four strokes. My favorite is the 300 twins single and dual carb's. Sound and power is amazing and will take a 15/18 lb straight up outa sight.

I woke up one morning in my younger years after a heavy session on the whoopee-juice, and the one eye that forced itself open was staring straight at the front wheel of a Hog. I can still remember thinking "oh... my... God... where the hell am I??" Can't recall having seen it before I bunkered-down on the couch

Where you been, Harley's haven't leaked anything since about 1983 when the employees got rid of AMF.
I installed a velocity stack on my plain Jane .62 today. Too cold to try it out though.

I recently got a low time .56. Did the .62 evolve from it or was the .62 a new design? Thanks.
Best regards, Richard

BJ i'm no harley fan i work on them quite a lot and have never been keen on them, but then i ride ducati and lots of people don't like them either.Yamabond would seal up leaky triumphs and norton roadsters it was that good.
I don't think the velocity stack is visible in hobbsys pix but at least it's in focus.Dave they sound tractor like with a saito flex pipe on do they,i thought that would have been to your liking

That picture is pre-velocity stack, I just mounted the stack yesterday. I ordered two while Horizon had them in stock. I've gotten so that when I need Saito things I order two of everything while they gottem.
Here is a shot of the newer .62b model.

The only one I currently have is a 115. Ive had the 100, 180, and 220. the 115 has 2 short flights on it and is going in my 4star 60 kit im building. I can definitely tell it has more power than the 100

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdmLu13UJzs You can see the auxiliary bracket at the ends of the pipes at 2:30 & again at 5:50. The bottom of the test stand is a duplicate of the motor mount box on my 1/3 scale SIG Spacewalker. The flex pipes make for a very tidy installation W/the exhaust exiting in a scale like manner. Given the airframe that it is going to be installed into, it has ample power.
Here are some PIX of the auxiliary bracket. It is made from fuel line clamps W/K&S brass bar stock. Also note then crankcase breather exit next to the exhaust pipe. The velocity of the escaping gasses scavenges the oil into the exhaust stream.

Why have a dummy engine when you can have real engine components showing?

BJ, as the intake charge moves toward the intake valve and into the cylinder it has momentum, when the intake valve closes this causes the intake charge to stop suddenly and it compresses slightly then bounces back toward the carb spraying fuel all over the inside of the cowl and firewall. The velocity stack reduces this considerably and increases fuel economy. The little 30 and the FA .40a have the velocity stack cast as part of the carb body.

I wanted to invert it, but I had already completed the build when I decided to put the 100 on it. I would have had to tear the nose apart inside to relocate the tank floor so I could route the throttle cable, as well as plug and redrill the mounts. Decided it wasn't worth it. During the build of my second Cub, the Biper, I thought about inverting the OS 70, but decided against it since I might find a twin for it down the road when I can afford one. Maybe one of these. http://www.macgregor.co.uk/saito/FA-100T.htm

Ahhh... to supply backpressure to the inlet?
A bit like how an expansion chamber works on a 2-banger... (except you're not using the reflected exhaust pulse) ?
