So................tonight was double action for the Losi Mega Baja and the Nitrage (Tuning Night)
The Losi is a nightmare trying to tune! [sm=drowning.gif]
The Nitrage was easy as hell, just kept leaning the high end and I could still lean a little more, but left it as it is crazy fast!]
Forget a 2 speed, you don't need it! [sm=punching.gif]
I am really considering getting another Tamiya .32 engine and dropping it in the Mega Baja.
I have had several Tamiya Nitro's before, and they are the best engines when it comes to tuning. SOoooooooooooooooooooooooooo EASY!
Who makes Tamiya's nitro engines???????
Who ever makes Losi's should be shot! They suck for tuning!
I am even thinking of taking my .32 Dynamite out of my Thundercat 31 Boat, and putting in a >32 Tamiya engine if the water cooled head fits!
I love the Nitrage so much, I am really thinking of getting a TNX 5.2 Pro Edition as it has a little more ground clearance for the off road bashing. I would save the Nitrage for racing at the local track!
Did I say I LOVE THIS RIG?

ORIGINAL: 2DMaxLST!!
The LOSI Mega Baja is not even remotely a LST2.
The LOSI Mega Baja is not even remotely a LST2.
The Mega Baja is based off the LST2 chassis....hence why all the hop ups work with either!
Losi still has crappy motors for tuning!
Tamiya Motors have always been the best......so who makes them?

LMfAO.!
You really think they can drive.!!
The only person who can really drive is the guy with the Hyper 8.
Show up tomorrow, its gonna be the first offical time im running my Hyper on that track. Id still take them all out.
If I could do it with a Nitrage, gonna be a cake walk with a Hyper.
*** Update On Nitrage ***
An OS .30 VG is on its way here for the Nitrage
Just finished re building all the diffs - 3 , 7 , 5
Maybe another month and it'll be up and running

RE: Tamiya Nitrage 5.2, The Offical Thread
qaiz,
Do you think the nitrage engine would fit in my Losi Mega Baja?
I would really like to get one for it as it was so easy to tune!
And so much faster also.
I tuned the nitrage some last night, and I am still running a little rich, but this thing moves.
I see why you say a 2 speed is not needed!
I think I will pass on the 2 speed and save me $70....maybe put it towards that motor for the Losi. [sm=idea.gif]

RE: Tamiya Nitrage 5.2, The Offical Thread
Dont think about the 2 speed.
Im gonna quote someone here who knows a lot about truggies
Original : supertib
Just like me you have also run center diff and know what a center diff is about... unfotunately quite a few guys buy their first Truggy and dont even try the center diff before they install a 2 speed LOL
There is no point in running a truggy if you have to rip out the center diff IMO. 2 speeds are for MT's. Id say jack it up a few inches, add MT wheels and say you run a MT instead of a truggy.!
Id personally NEVER run a 2 speed, it kills the handling. And whats the point of a 2 speed on a track, the mains are hardly ever long enough.!?
And about the engine, not sure. Try it, take a pic of the Losi's engine mounts and Ill tell ya... I honestely have no idea.
@ rc
A hyper 8 is a buggy, a damn good one.

qaiz,
Let me pick your brain if you don't mind on tuning.....it has been awhile since I owned a Nitro.
The Losi takes off fine, and seems to go good, but as soon as you let off the throttle it seems to still rev high for awhile, then goes to an idle. But if I don't feather the throttle while at idle, it bogs and wants to cut out and almost dies when I give it gas.
I am almost sure it is the low end needle, but not certain, and would it need leaned out, or rich'n.
Thanks man, because tuning this Losi engine is driving bat'y! [sm=spinnyeyes.gif]

RE: Tamiya Nitrage 5.2, The Offical Thread
Im useless at tuning to be honest. I just watch my temps and as long as it blasts off the line im fine.
I think it has something to do with your mid-range needed.
PM a guy called supertib , he'd be able to give you great advice. Thats what I do when I have problems..

RE: Tamiya Nitrage 5.2, The Offical Thread
Hmmm... not sure if im happy with this WASP .28 turbo or not...
My buddy is running a stock GS Racing XUT-Pro with a R25MT motor and He was KICKIN my arse all over the track yesterday. Faster off line, higher top end, quicker power build up... This motor wont even break my tires free unless i'm full throttle and trying to fish tail it...
Also once my engine warmed up it was stalling when i hit the brakes and was having trouble idling. I turned the idle speed up, leaned out the high point and still had trouble with it (although it did run a little better). Does anyone know if this motor is supposed to be run at REALLY high RPMs at all times to keep it running and get the power out of it? or for that matter how a "Turbo" motor differs mechanically from the non-turbo versions? Will the power increase as it continues to break in? Could it be in part that the steering servo in my car is kinda crappy?
I had some high expectations for the Orion .28 WASP engine and it's just not living up to them.

Just to add one more question...
Any thoughts on what kind of pipe i should throw on this thing to add a little umph? I don't think this Tsais is worth its weight in tin foil....

Also Richen your LSN at 1/8th at a time and do the same. but only 1 needle at a time.
What temps are you running at when you have these problems.
Let me know.
Your motor is over revving upon deceleration because your LSN is set to lean btw to answer your question.
But when tuning a good rule of practice to get into is to richen before you lean and run a few laps. you may find your engine running surprisingly better than it was.
