I'll ignore the "pope" comments. Interesting thing came to light at a "show me your Saitos" (no comments. Reading the "data on both the FG20 and 36 engines, it stated that the carbies use "negative pulse induction from the induction tube to draw fuel into the carby. AND they stated that the normal mounting position for both engines is "inverted". These 2 engines are new in box and if I followed the "weight of a/c" recommendations I would not fit the 20 in my ESM Storch. I have seen one of these fly very realistically at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle with a FG 20 fitted no worries. The a/c is twice the weight recommended. BTB how are you Yanks getting on with that new FAA licencing legislation? B^**#y CASA is looking into the same thing here in Oz, thanks to those idiots flying drones.

The only time I want to hear a chainsaw is when I am cutting firewood or better yet, clearing shooting lanes.

The mail Lady dropped of a (new to me) used Saito .50, it has an M on the right mounting lug. As you can see I already equipped it with a Dubro Spinner Nut and Harry Higley lock nut, cast smoke stack and the newer revised cast muffler. It needs bearings, new Boca Bearings are on the way. Hopefully I now have a matched pair for a Dual Ace. It has great compression, no detectible leak, a new Fox Miracle already installed.
AMEN. This is why I rarely fly my 4*120 with DLE20. Would be nice to make it quieter. It's my only 2 stroke plane, I do have a DLE30 that might work for the B-25 of P-61, only because of cost. A 4 stroke glow large enough to fly one of those would go through $40 of fuel a day.

I'll run TurboHeaders on both of them. The props may end up being Xoar's, I'd prefer two Bolly 12.5x6 if I can scrounge them from somewhere. The bearings feel rough, I didn't check to see if they are rusty or castor crusty. I'll knock the old bearings out today. The new Boca's should be her Monday.

There it sits now, the rear bearing is rusted the front may have been OK but it's history now. The rear bearing came out with the crank after the crank moved about .5", the cam drive gear was stuck pretty fast but it eventually gave up. The gaskets are all good.

Yeh it all looks pretty good tho dave, not much time.Used to run an apc 13x6 on my 62 do you think a 12.5x6 is to big for a 50? and while it's apart good to do the front bearing as well eh.
Had the saito 82 out of the deccy three times today, that was fun.It would'nt prime or draw much fuel when running so i did'nt get to fly, awesome day mates.Came home and it's a carby problem alright, swapped it for another one and she's singing pure southern gospel now and getting 300rpm more than i've had for a while,9200 on a 14x6 apc.

Thanks Pete, you're right, it appears to be a low timer. I'm expecting the new Boca's Tuesday. I removed one of the front seals and the one shield on the rear, just to take a peak, the front bearing runs smoothly, the rear is notchy/gritty.

Im installing a Saito 100 inverted on my Great Planes 90" Cub and i was wondering if i cut the cowl similar to the one in the picture with only the top of the engine cut out will it get enough cooling? I thought the cooling fins need to be exposed.

Generally a good ratio for proper cooling is you want the air outlet to be 2 times the size of your air intake. From the looks of what I can see I think you will probably need more outlet area to cool the engine properly.

Pete, I probably could have gotten Saito 56s for that class, but I had to buy 6 new engines and that was getting pricey. Besides, the students were beginners. I'm not very fond of trainers in the first place so putting Saitos on LT-40's seemed a bit of a waste of good engines to me. There's a parallel here between Saitos and trainers and your ladies of the night comment, don't you think?

Make the opening at the bottom rear one big rectangle.
What do the front intakes look like? They should allow some flow over the fins which is necessary in my opinion. It may be necessary to add some baffles inside the cowl to direct the airflow through the fins rather than around them. The rule of twice the outlet to inlet is good, but you do need some inlets.

In the flat area below prop make a big wide grin mouth, that is directly in line with cooling fins
