Phil, congratulations on such a perfect maiden and thanks for useful setup info. Good to know it should be OK on the smaller fields.

I also have the a CARF ViperJet with JC 180RX which should be ready to maiden in about 2 weeks. Spent a lot of time building a proper cockpit so expect to add a little less weight up front.

Some pictures would be great, especially if you have installed the winglets.<br type="_moz" />

Do you have the "friction tube" added to stop the nose leg "flopping" (you put a piece of retract tube in one of the tapped trunion holes and nip the set screw to add some friction. In flight it will retract square

Dave thanks for the reply on the nose gear centering. For the life of me I cannot get a mental picture of that. Are there any pictures available. I am using Behotec 40 size nose gear retracts with electric gear. For now I have just run a couple of rubber bands off the screw in steering tillers to a point inside the wheel well. It is working sort of OK but have not had the plane in the air yet.

Hope to taxi test this weekend and maiden soon after.

Got the maiden in on the new Viper yesterday. Four flights in total. All I can say is WOW, this thing is a big old *****cat!.. No problems at all. Pretty much the stock setup as recommended in the instructions. Clean airplane with no mixes dialed in. Balanced on the middle hole of the jig. Weight of the plane was exactly 36 lbs dry, with UAT full. I did need about 28 ounces of lead in the nose to get balance.

For the first flight I used takeoff flaps of about 45mm and only half throttle. Held about half of the takeoff setting elevator and plane rotated at around 250 ft. Power is from a 36 lb Rhino and wind was about 5mph on the nose. That was it, plane just flew perfect. one click of left and a few up as the plane was a little nose heavy which is just fine with me on the first flight. Other than that she just flew perfect with no bad habits at all. I expect to remove about 12 -16 ounces of the nose weight a little at a time, starting with 6 ounces on the next flight. Landing was a non event. As mentioned I used no mixes. Just went gear down and straight to full flaps, about 80mm. The plane had only a minor pitch up and then just settled into a perfect attitude. I had planed on putting a down elevator mix and some crow in but will wait on that till I end up at final balance. Landing was nice and slow and easy and the ground handling was great.

Pretty much a perfect first day out. A friend did some great photos and video, including in flight video. Will post a link as soon as he is done editing.

Thank, Dave. The scheme was painted by CARF in the moulds as a custom scheme. I repainted the nose as well as the air intakes as I didn't like the joint seems there and I redid the fit of the canopy frame. But it was worth the extra work.

About to buy one of these nice Vipers this week...... the only problem is that is the green scheme which I'm not to crazy about. Will be using the pictures in this thread as help for the assembles.

Will be using Futaba 9157 servos, Jetcentral Rhino and Powerbox Royal.

Thanks for posting the pictures, nice solution. Tried to close the door mechanically with the gear leg but when I maidened my Tomahawk Viper on Friday I had problems during 2 flights, so I shell change to your solution during wintertime.

Use driver hinge ( from BVM off-set door hinge #5525 ) as horn and TREX 550 ball linkage.
