RE: Gruman Ag-Cat
It looks just the way I remembered it except it looks like you may have the "A" model tail. Mine has the "B" model tail. Your's is taller and mine is wider. Maybe it's just me but I think the radial should be fine and also it will look amazing. I think either way you slice it you probably are going to come out weighing in the mid 30 pound range anyway. I can tell you from experience that once she leaves the ground she will feel like she only weighs about 10 pounds in the air and I'm not kidding. I don't think you can go wrong with the radial considering you already have one. If I had a radial I would mount it on mine in a second!!!!! Here areseveralstillshots on the day of the first flight. Compliments of my friend Rick libersate from Orange, Texas.</p>

RE: Gruman Ag-Cat
You're a better man than me because man I can tell you right now trying to fit my dummy radial around the engine and try to still make it look like an engine is going to be harder for me than putting the Agcat together. I've started it , but I don't feel good about it right now because I've had to cut so much of it away. I just don't now how I will ever get back all what I've had to cut out around the carburater and throttle mechanisim. I haven't even started on the muffler side of the engine yet. Also, I need to becareful because this plastic radial around a hot motor only means one thing....."MELTING". That one really concerns me for sure. I've seen the pictures that you presented on this forum but I can tell you right now mine as of right now will never come out that clean. I'm seriously and frustratingly scratching my head on this one . I'm at the point to know that I need to walk away from it a while and come back to it when my thoughts, ideas and Patients all balance out so I can get the creativity to install the dummy radial that looks like I didn't have to make all of the modifications to it. "Question" How do you install this "Plastic Radial" around an engine and muffler that will surely melt it? I just can't figure this one out guys, so any suggestion or comments will be very much appreciated it. I know what it's supposed to look like but getting there will be the battle. Right now I'm at the point where I'm not putting one on it all so I need all of ya'lls input on this one for a fact!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unless the plastic actually touches your muffler, and only your muffler, nothing will melt. That plastic can take a lot of heat but your engine will never generate enough heat to make that happen. My Stearman is about four years old now with many flights on it with that dummy radial.....no damage or sign of melting. If anything, I believe plastic like that gets brittle and is prone to break into pieces if exposed to high heat over an extended period. Again, don't worry about it. Just make sure you've left enough of the radial engine to stay together after you're done cutting it up.

OUTACONTROL > . . . . . . . . Some of the EARLIER versions show a BIG 5 cylinder on them and Even a Seven cylinder engine .
So If Your engine will Pull it , Then it would STILL be Scale AS IT IS . .

RE: Gruman Ag-Cat
Just to give you a bench mark. The brisson 4.2 I have on my agcat puts out 30 pounds of thrust. It swings a 22 x 8 prop. I never got to half throttle if that helps. I guess if you can find out what size prop that is recommended for that type of engine and also find out the thrust ratio's affiliated withthe recommended prop. You should be able to find some kind of stats on it somewhere I would think. I'll look around for some information also.
By the way:
I'm air brushing panel lines and weathing on a kit bashed dust devil. A buddy of mine built it to simulate a thrush..........And no, it's not even close to David Hayes thrush........It was just a fun to do project just to see if we could make it look like a thrush. After all it wouldn't look like any thing else right..... My buddy and I did some horse trading for some detail work on the simulated thrush......I think it's coming out pretty good. Go check it out. the weathering really makes the plane look like a whole different plane. It's post # 138.

Hey Duane,
I knew you could type........ Ha, just kidding glad to see you checked in. Eveyone really appreciates your presence in this forum. Now you've be baptized to the forum. So now you have become a regular from this point forward. Good to hear from you and thanks for the cudos on the build of prototype #1. The pleasure was all mine. Thank you for the opportunity.
A fellow pilot asked me to do a how to lesson on how I airbrush my panel lines and rivets form the RC cropduster thread and I thought I would share that information with you guys on this forum. The two videos are short brief and to the point. There are several different ways I do rivets but I just covered one way in the video I will add more ways of how I capture panel line and rivets in different way as time goes by. Also includedare several shots of the plane that I'm performing the airbrushing on so you can see some of the final out come. I hope you enjoy them.

this is steve from russellville, ive known duane awhile now and have his 502,just purchased the agcat and have been doing some research on the engine to install on it,i found the os would have enough power if the weight was keeped down around 28 lbs.im going with the saito 450 3 cylinder for 2 reasons,1-it is a 70cc engine with plenty of power & i can incorporate the williams brothers dumby radial quite easily, suppose to get the agcat this week, good luck on your os engine, steve kneeland

RE: Gruman Ag-Cat
update guys, tower hobbies has just come out with their o.s. 7 cylinder radial engine, its not in stock yet but you can back order it,should be here mid august, only one problem,ITS FREAKING $3500.00,know if you guys want a deal and about 500.00 to a 1000.00 off,im talking with a guy in italy,he has a 7 cylinder radial, diameter is 10.5" just what we need in size, engine is called a sl constellation, you can get it it gas or glow with elec.ignition,if you get the glow version you can always upgrade your engine to the gas type(he sells the convrsion kit)but keep in mind the gas weighs a pound more which might help out with the climbing problem,i just bought a wren 44 gold turboprop for the d.h.802 two seater and should be getting done towards the end of the summer, just a note:the constellasion 7 cylinder costs 3100.00 u.s. dollars but im tring to become a dealer for him and he told me he could give me a break on the price like 2300.00 to 2500.00 tops, let me know, steve kneeland, flyboys rc & scale manufacturing.

Quick question for all you Ag-Cat fans out there...
What would you estimate the size/wingspan of an Ag-Cat would have to be to put the "smallest" Moki radial (150 cc) up front on the firewall?
I love the sound of those radials but will do anything to stay with gas engines if possible.
Thx,
Bil

I would like to say thank you to the Orange Tx. Radio Control Club for putting on a wonderful grand opening flyin on Saturday July 24th. Everything was wonderful. The food, the hospitality and the great conversations. Here's a couple of pics of my D.H. Agcat. The one with her taking off really came out well. I did have a mishape but I've gotten her all put back together. You guys are the greatest. Thanks Ricky and James for the very warm welcome. You guys are the best.
