My Max is finally back in the air. It's been 10 months since she last flew with that catastrophic turbine failure. The plane was actually ready to go 2 months after that flight but my time has been limited with other responsibilities. I'm sincerely grateful to Larry Hultman...the finest composite guy in the world (not to mention his painting ability).
This is the re-maiden and overall 3rd flight with a brand new Kingtech 235G4+ in it. Even after repairs, the plane still came in at 54.75 lbs. takeoff weight. This flight is still without any gyro.

Thanks Wayne. Making the transition from F3A to F3S is interesting. The aerobatic box is so big!

FYI, I signed up for the NATS today.

Yes.... for Jets, the box was widened by the FAI to 150°, so It gives more space for pilots who "punch" the throttle!!
I did receive your registration and will upload your name shortly!! REALLY looking forward to seeing you up there in Mountain City!

For those pilots on this thread who may be interested in finding out a bit more about F3S, you could take a look at our website and mosey around there.
I should have started a new thread particularly aimed at F3S Jet Aerobatics
BTW....
Scott, THANKS for this build thread as it is very complete and has helped/answered some of my questions...particularly the in-depth photos.

Hello Scott, thank you so much for your very detailed construction report. It was very helpful for me to start building my Rebel Max. My Rebel Max isn't finished yet but I hope to be able to do the maiden this year. Have fun and enjoy your Rebel Max - Peter

Here if interested my current build report

Has anyone found a need for a sun cover? Revoc has 15% off and I was contemplating one (Denver sun can be brutal) but I also don't want to just waste money.....

TIA

Sheldon,
I've had mine for about a year and you know I fly mine quite a bit. There is no evidence of paint fading from being exposed to the Colorado sun for that length of time. Keep the skin air-cooled by flying the plane!

I use mine all the time in the Texas sun, heat and humidity. It's a pretty awesome cover if you buy the one from Revoc. Money well spent IMHO.

I also ordered fuselage bags, wing bags and sun sails from Revoc, they offer the best quality. The last few days I finished building my "Rebel Max" and did the first rollout - all worked well. The maiden will take place shortly - I'm really looking forward to it! Here‘s a short vid of rollout:

I have the sun cover also for my Rebel pro. Personally, I feel that it is a bit tight on the horizontal stabilizers.
thanks,
Tone

True, but I feel like it puts a bit too much strain on the elevators. You can almost feel them flexing when you put it on.
Thanks,
Tone

While tight, I don't agree (at least with mine). There is no worry of h-stab flex on my cover whatsoever.

I am setting up my Max at the moment. The manual mentions the elevator and aileron throws at 35-40mm. Is this measured from the root or the tip?

thanks

Does anyone have an STL file for a nose gear cover? To keep the grass and crap out of the fuselage. I have heard some are using them.

If you use the Max movement, be prepared to a lower setting on the dual rates.
I found most the maximum throws to be to much.

Agree that you set the travel at the root. I will tell you that, assuming you don't have your CG too far forward to make it more stabile, the elevator throw they recommend is...significant. I'd set up some dual rates and put about 30-35% Expo on full throw. Ailerons feel pretty good but are a little fast if you're trying to be smooth and one can never have too much rudder.

HA! I was just trying to be nice. It's not too much to fly with but certainly way more than one needs with this monster.

Speaking of more than you need..... I fly at 7000ft or more MSL. So on a normal day I get a 20% reduction in power, meaning a 300n is like a heavy 240n.

I am going to give this a go and fly like an adult. I have a 300 swiwin I can use.

Hi, I designed a gear cover for Rebel Max. You can download it here:
