I am trying to decipher the instructions for the FG 11, if I understand them correctly the ignition system has no advance or retard capability. It says, if you advance the timing for max power you will no longer be able to hand start it. It also says that the timing is factory set at a neutral setting. I am going to employ a degree wheel and find out. I also need to decipher the 20 to 1 gas to oil by volume recommendation. I don't want to get that wrong.
I connected one of my new C&H Ignition system with Synchro-Spark and it works. I may not use the stock ignition if it has no Synchro-Spark like capability.

Never had a problem with the ignition as it came from the factory. It doesn't hand start though, always needed to use a starter, but then, I always use a starter anyway. By advancing the timing it may run backwards if you hand start it. My first gallon of gas I mixed 16:1, I wasn't seeing any oil out of the crank breather at 20:1, and was a little concerned, so mixed it 16:1 and saw some oil. Been running it oil rich ever since. When starting it half the time I didn't even know it was running since it idles lower than the speed of the starter. It is also super quiet, which really amazed me. When the plane is up high I can't tell if the engine is running or not.

That's okay......I suppose. I talked with the people upstairs and they agreed to let one dud photo slip by. Nice seeing those engines again. Tom has posted in the radial forums here, but he may hang out at the other site more than at our place.

Here is a shot of the oil puddle, also there is not a spec of oil where it is not supposed to be. Note tiny copper washer on the rocker cover screws, something new to me.
It took a good hour to put 12 oz of fuel through it, I haven't peaked it yet, only reached 7,800 rich and 8 stroking, if blubbering two strokes are said to be four stroking, then why not. The prop is a Graupner 12x7. I used the C&H Ignition system.

Where do you get your ethanol free gasoline? Thanks.

Well i think those threads where to narrow, not deep enough to create an stronger bind on that bigger engine, i have a set on an Saito 100 and is fine, but on this bigger one it just ripped off in flight.

What do you mean by: someone jack legged an extension onto that one above? could you direct to the one above?, do you know what really happened or just assuming? and that's not a turbo header is called by the manufacturer turbo Header muffler, you are missing the header.
yes.
I typically fully drain the tank, which included the line from the carb, and with just a few flips have gas to the carb and running. I don't know how many hand flips, but its just a few seconds on the starter.
How did you like how that little FG-11 sounds? I really like mine, but need just a little more speed out of an engine for the T-Clips or it would have been all put back together. If it wasn't for the added weight of the ignition, it would be spot on for power for the plane.

How about fitting it with the not to be named* gas glow plug and lose the ignition system? Or, does the not to be named gas glow plug not work on 4 strokes?
*((Can I refer to OS (oh, sorry, I meant not to be named) this way?))

That makes absolutely no sense. Maybe it was a mismatch of threads, like not using matching threads? There are different Turbo Headers for different engines! What engine and TH and adapter part numbers were you trying to use together?

It has a pump carb, it only took 2 flips and the fuel was at the carb, you'll never have to choke one. According to the instructions the tank can be 200 cm from the engine.
The sound has a harsh snap or bark to it, the glow is more mellow, I am confident I'll see 9,000+ with a Xoar 13x6, I found one a little while ago. It is very smooth running and accelerates quickly. I'll give it another 30 minutes at various sub peak speeds and then see how it max's out.
I get the ethanol free at a Gulf Station at the Westmoreland Park entrance, about 10 miles east on route #3. It's 89 octane.
That picture makes no sense, where did the unthreaded part come from.

If you ever owned one, you will know what im talking about and if you do, like i said, you should know that the thread and material seems weak for such a large engine, on my saito 100 is working perfect and i already owned it for like 5 years, this one didn't last me 3 years. i will know if the threads don't match.

To me it means buy a bigger spanner, saitos are well made and last for years, for most people but..you have to get your hands on the new engine before the dog does.Postman all booted and suited rocked up to the door with my first 82 engine, could'nt wait to run it.Saito the dog leapt off the floor when i opened the door and snatched the box right out of his hands then thrashed and chewed it before running out to the back yard and digging a hole.Do they come pre lubed with synthetic now? he hates the smell of that and kiwi uggboots.
Nice picture of kmot's open rocker saito richard and no..os

All in favor of sending OF a few gallons of Synthetic oil, say AYE!
I need to get me or make an engine test stand. Now I want to fire up that FG-11 and play with it a bit. Along with a few other Saito I have laying around. I wonder how the 56 will run without a muffler attached. I forgot what prop I used on the 11, it got decimated when I buried the nose into the ground two knuckles deep. It was an APC and I think it may have been a 13x6.

Terrific, especially in a red and yellow Spacewalker or Flybaby I have gold rocker covers on my 120abc. Maybe I will paint the engine red and switch it out for the 130t that is in my Spacewalker now. Or, better yet, paint the 130t red and add gold rocker covers

That would look nice make sure you pick the same shade red kmot did.Popo how about you get on the big choo choo (indian pacific) for two days and come over.I'll loan you a metal detector and if you can find where saito dug a hole and buried the 125 it's yours to keep.Bring some rubber gloves and a respirator saito took a dump on it before we backfilled but it should be fossilized by now.He was on a diet of dog bikkys and castor at the time.
