Yeah i was wondering about that too.Sometimes if you hear that 'rubbing' noise in flight it might be bearings.Rowdog lightly grip the prop tips and rock the prop back and forth,can you feel or hear any movement?
Barry if i remember right you fitted a steel backplate to you 72 because it was sucking air at the upper intake tube where it meets the head? the three 82's i have with the plastic backplate have given no trouble over the years tuning wise one of them has a couple of hundred hours flight time.
popo imagine you are all tucked up in bed and the fairy godmother is perched on the bedside reading you a goodnight story while waving her magic wand..a girlfriend has found me a flouro pink half see through skimpy tu tu dress to wear on 'any sunday' (i'm not allowed to wear any undergarments) while carving up those slow harley riders in the hills.She says it may give them all a sudden attack of limp ***** syndrome but i'm not sure what that means.

No just the clicking not grittiness or shaft play to the side or back and forth. I will keep an ear on it and if it gets worse I will send out. Do not want to mess up a nice engine .

Hey there Pet, I need your fatherly advice without mentioning my geezerglide, I have two Saito .50's, one with G on the right lug and the other with M. One is rear vent and the other front vent. Also I have two 1.00's, one is the latest version the other is the busted up one I showed here a while back where the cylinder blew about hallway off. Both turn a Xoar 15x6 at 9,150, neither being completely broken in. The rebuilt one is all new except for the crankshaft, cam, piston and rear cover. I am thinking about selling one of each.

Ok no more harley jokes sorry.Out of the two 50's i'd keep the rear crankcase vent one because they are safer to pump after run oil into when you hit the prop with a starter.I like my 115 for that reason,plus it's not a 125.I remember looking at the pics you posted of the cylinder there some interesting comments as well as your own,this is no way going to get you out of some harley jokes tho...any respectable ducatisti would do that
ps how many people have smacked their fingers on a prop while pumping after run oil in ??

Harley jokes I can handle, the above pictured Saito 1.00 whacked my fingers something awful on Wednesday. Luckily I had a heavy work glove on and it only hurt without cutting. Slow flipping a Saito is dangerous duty if you don't get your fingers out of the prop arc quickly enough. And that is without the glow power connected.
Since I use Corrosion X with a pump I don't need to turn the engine to get it in there, just to distribute it once it's inside the engine.

One of the .50's
Saito .50-g
Prop======Xoar 12x6
Fuel======Wildcat 10% with 18% full syn.
Plug======OS-f
Exhaust===Latest cast/revised muffler
Velocity stack==yes
Max rpm==9,350
Idle======2,150
Not the cleanest mid range I've experienced but good enough. LS needle may need touched up a little.

I got a Saito 1.80 as part of a bunch of stuff I purchased from a guy getting out of the hobby. I was going to sell it but I'm now thinking about converting it to gas. Is the CH Ignition hard to install and operate? Are there any threads or videos showing the installation? I would be putting it on a Dynaflite PT-19.
So, CH Was at Toledo, and $125 for the ignition kit for the 125. Saw a few Saito, not as many as I did last year, but no spare mufflers were to be had. Guess I will have to dish out $74 plus shipping for the Turbo Heater.
For the collectors out there, I did see this one. NIB. No, didn't buy it, I buy to use, if I can't use, I no buy.

Fair point , he must be going through some detox issues . Going from prescription meds to booze to his wacky baccy has got to play havoc with his mental faculties . Not that he was overly blessed in this department in the first place .
Dave i see what you mean about the pumper bottle and corrosion x but i'll stick with transmission fluid and a starter,it must be the sound of balls i like whizzing around the bearing race getting coated evenly.You are right about the backflip and getting cracked on the knuckles and i'm surprised nobody else here went..damn that hurts! my 182 twin gets me the most but good news.Put a large balloon shaped glass full of your best alcohol in the freezer with a big cube of ice in the middle.Push your knuckles through the skim ice and wait for two seconds,it's so cold you whip your fingers out and suck them dry.Repeat as necessary.

You bring up an interesting point about getting whacked, the compression ratio on your 1.82 is 8.14 to 1, I would not consider that high. In other words a lower compression engine can whack you just as well as a higher compression ratio engine. I think that the 1.30 is in the 12.8 neighborhood.

I have a simple solution, I don't let the prop crack me on the knuckles. I'm also not independently wealthy like the rest of you reprobates so I have all single cylinder engines. ;-)

You're right- my 72 gave me fits. Plus, W8YE was here at the time too. We learned a couple of things from that engine and all those days I hauled it out to the field only to get deadsticks from the backplates. One time Jim suggested we run the engine without muffler pressure and it ran pretty good. We looked a the vent line going to the tank and found the inside of the the tubing was mush. It was collapsing when getting warm. RTV at the manifold to seal the fit was the answer but even that began to fail. Put the engine on the stand and found a screw was backing out after a minute of two of running. Some epoxy on the threads cured all problems until this day. Later Jim's fuel crank wouldn't work and sure enough it was the old fuel line in the fuel jug collapsing so I gave him some of mine from the toolbox. Wouldn't you know the same thing happened to me a week after Jim left here for Ohio. At least I didn't waste too much flying time trying to find the cause.
Okay, I'll leave the 82a as is. Deep down inside I didn't really want to pull out the engine. The engine is new with only 40-50 minutes on it and the plane is new. I'll try and send a pic. It's a CA Models 40 size Epsilon pattern plane. I'm running out of their kits if I keep building. I have a crashed Widebody 40 I can rebuild by copying the parts from a NIB Widebody 40 kit I bought before they dropped the line. Mostly it's rebuilding the front of the fuselage and making a new canopy and new cowl. The CA Models kits are some of the smoothest flying planes around.
BTW, I'm sunburned from the airshow at Maxwell AFB. Saw the French Patriouille Air Force team and Thunderbirds fly. Bill Stein did unbelievable stuff in an Edge 540. Rudder authority was amazing. He did a triple loop avalanche with smoke. A Thunderbird F-16 did a harrier down real low and they did a lot of low level passes over the crowds going balls to the wall with afterburners. Got to climb up into a B1 bomber.
Barry i know they say a 125 is slow to run in and i've found the 82 to be similar they really start to get up and go after you fly them for a few hours,or maybe you just get better on that engine tuning it in flight.Looking forward to the pic...hope your deaf as well after the airshow you lucky bugger.
Dave i too need some fatherly advice re my edge540v3 fitted with my only gas engine.Next door neighbour is a vet and has a large array of animals and birds which are all very tame.Everytime i lift the shed roller door this pidgeon flies in and lands on the left wing right beside the cockpit,he'll peck you and won't move unless helped.He likes poopin in the same spot do you think he hates the gas smell?..it's an fg57,should i try one of blw's bottle rockets or settle for the 12ga shotgun?
