rowdog_14,, any one that is good with a lathe could turn you that Insert,, contact "RM3" on the RunRyder Heli Forum,, he has made Connecting Rods and Crank Shafts, and Clutches for the Zenoha 20cc,, and many other Heli parts,, I'm 100% sure he could make that Insert, and I'm 99% sure he would do it for you,,,, he would most likely need to buy a 1/4x32 Tap
get over to RunRyder and Did-er-done !
BTW, the Chevy Corvair engine didn't utilize Cam Bearings

Barry if you don't fight back sometimes they start calling that dead you must be brave to argue with the wife..i'm trying to convince popo that there's a conspiracy between dave and dan now..they hav'nt thrown any toys out of the sandpit for weeks now.I thought camaros were ugly before i saw that vega.
Here ya go Pete, this should help you sleep better tonight. The only oil the engine ever saw after the first oil change was Arco Graphite. I put Koni shocks on it and built my own 2.25" exhaust system for it with a Thrush Turbo Muffler. My Vega was Cinnamon Brown no mags.

I asked this in an earlier post...who is this guy? Do you know his username?
do you know if anyone sells it? Or if I can buy it from a part store or something?[/QUOTE ] Another post mentioned Clarence Lee as having fixed one. Try him, maybe he will sell you just the insert. If not, I recommend sending the cylinder to him, or even the whole engine if that suits you. He will fixx it right as he has.fir.many years.

The Vega engine was a long stroke engine at 3.501" bore and 3.625 stroke, that worked out well with the tallish 2.53 rear gears. With the 3 speed automatic it was a good combination.

I remember a friend of mine in school had an older brother that bought a new hatchback Vega he added a custom head rest with stereo speakers built in. I also remember years ago see the Cosworth Vega on the dealership floor but for a little more ($900 to $1000 I think.)you get a Corvette! I remember they but a car number on the simulated jeweled plastic dash.
I just saw one on Ebay with a buy it now price of $8500. Considering what they are getting over on Hemmings that's not a bad price.

I just emailed him with pictures of the brass insert. Lets see what come about. Worst case send him my engine to fix or there is a guy selling a NIB 180 for $350 or I could buy a cylinder head for $100.
If I were to do a project car, I would consider a Vega Cosworth, but only if it has the original engine. I just saw a Vega "Cosworth" listed asking 19K, but it does not have the original engine, but a V8 instead. I was like, Hey DUmmy! IT's the engine that made it a Cosworth, without it, it is just another Vega!
I saw one that had been listed at $3500 and another at $2500, if I found one at $2500, I would buy it today. The most important thing to be watchful of on the Vega is rust, they rotted on the show room floor. The last one I had was clean except for rot at the lower rear corner drivers side where the B met the rocker.

I think they were the cheapest car ever produced by this country. I really do. The 'trunk' area was lined by cardboard stock cut and bent to shape.
My second one was a white GT hatchback with the black stripes. Mag wheels and a 4 speed.

my brother had a Vega,, with a big Harley sticker in the back window,,
I remember back in the 70s that people actually believed the Chevy Luv's engine block was made of Fiberglass ,, it was because some cover on the engine was made of Fiberglass,,
I remember my friend got a used Luv at the age of 15, his father worked for Chevy since forever,, I remember my friend told me it's engine block was made of Fiberglass, so I later told his father what he said and his father said "people do believe that because that Cover was made of Fiberglass",,, as I remember it was the Rocker Cover
Chevy sold over 2 million Covairs, a great success

I reckon popo,do you remember that aussie movie 'the castle'? funny as.Acdc is right people are asking silly money for cars that with few exceptions were just ordinary transport back then 1960/70's.A while back people here were paying upwards of 500,000 for a mint late 60's early 70's ford gt351 falcon with the phase three gtho being the most expensive i think, makes your eyes water...still no aircon! or electric windows!
Sr the valiant slant sixes were very popular here too especially the two door e38/49 chargers,a few years back i got sick of painting them in a bright orange colour called 'vitamin c' after people started dragging the old one's out of the shed to cash in on the retro craze. That was interesting about the 200ti having slightly stroked 91 barrels on it,i always thought it was two 100's.I'm assuming my 182 twin has standard 91 barrels?
Dave thanks for the yellow coloured flashback i painted one for a guy over here back in the early nineties.Cinnamon brown sounds suspiciously like what you used to scrape off nappies (diapers) before disposables came in
Jim any luck with the 200ti? i'd persevere because i've seen one flown in a h9 p51 and it looked and sounded like the ducks nuts.Frank gardner used to race a mid engined v8 chevy corvair here in the 70's and it was all but unbeatable, went like a rat up a drainpipe.

I remember my son looking at a done up gemini and saying how cool it was . I just about spat my coffee all over him . After I slapped him a couple of times in the head I set him straight that grannie used to do her shopping in cars like that . How much is your other family heirloom the datsun 120 Y worth ? As a teenager I had a HQ pile of crap with 202 3 on the tree and every time u stopped at the lights u had to be on the inside lane cause more often than not it would get stuck in neutral going from 1st to 2nd . The good ol days .

Clarence Lee is a legend amongst engine guys.
He's been around since the 1960's, designing engines for K&B/Veco , writing engine reviews for model magazines etc.
Google him, he's the best guy to fix your problem.

It is amazing what passes for a "cool" car with the young crowd now days. Stuff we wouldn't be caught dead in because we thought they were an "Old Man or Grannie car" they think is cool. Now I did have a friend who traded for a 1968 Mercury Racing division Marauder convertible with the original flawed inline 10 racing engine. They built the number required to be considered a production model that year. The engine had a flaw in the block design causing it to crack and blow. A Houston car collect bought it and I loss track of it after he died suddenly.
