Welcome to Club SAITO !
Hey Hobsy, I looked for your stats on the FG-11 and can't find them. What prop were you running? I want a little more vertical and wonder if a different prop that what I have will work. Think I have a 12 x 6 on it now.

FG 11 stuff.'
Saito FG 11
Prop===Xoar 13x6
Fuel===Gulf Gasoline, 89 octane ethanol free/Mercury Marine two stroke full synthetic compatible with water or air cooling@ 20 to 1.
Stock FG 11 Ignition=RCXL
95 minutes total run time, I ran the tank 1" lower than the first run, there was no difference in the running.
Max rpm stock muffler== 9,155
Max rpm Turbo Header==9,293
RPM with both=2,150
High Speed needle is sensitive one click lean with stock muffler =9,100
One click lean with TH==9,240
The TH has that same deep throb as the glow engines.
That's it, it's a keeper.

Thanks. Does a 56 need the pressure tap for the tank, or will it run OK without pressurizing the tank? The muffler on the FG-11 will fit the FA56, and since I am missing one, I can get a TH for the FG and use the FG one on the FA. I really would like to not tap the muffler if I don't have to.
Acdc don't be scared to try different props they make a big difference sometimes,depending on how you like to fly.
Years ago i had a semi private argument with dave about whether you had to have tank pressure or not.My argument was simple,since the pressure nipple on the muffler or straight pipe is located near the end of the exhaust then surely atmospheric pressure was dominant and exhaust gas pressure was minimal.I wanted to run my own custom shotgun style pipes on all my saito's.With no exhaust pressure line hooked up,and test running an 82 in my decathlon on the ground i needed to open the main needle slightly to maintain peak rpm,which was steady.Now if you fly round gently that will probably work,but,if you like flying aerobatics the engine won't like it because fuel feed varies.I tried going a lot fatter on the main needle which nearly cured it.In the end i had to admit that that tractor loving so and so was right,and i'm glad.Had many enjoyable flying hours since then.
ps good luck with the bipe capt

Well the 125 is in and I only had a MS prop on hand. But it should be good enough to test fly. I bought this plane from a dude that just had it hanging in his shop. (What crime) No radio or control's had to set up the hole thing. Anyway i know it should be a good flyer the hog just is.

I've been a born again "GearHead" since I could walk, the first engine I dismantled was a Clinton two stroke lawn mower engine. I got,it back together and it ran.
Being labeled a Tractor Lovin SO and So is good. I use pressure on everything, even engines that came without it but I spect most would run without it. I cured a rich midrange on an Enya .46 MKII by using tank pressure. When the HS needle was set for a good top end the the mid range was rich when the fuel draw improved. When using pressure I could set the HS needle a quarter turn leaner cleaning up the mid range. Honest

I haven't been all those things, or don't claim to be. I'm trying to remember how the engine ran. It was Jim's suggestion to isolate whatever was causing the 72 to go lean. We had not considered the backplate yet. We did learn something very, very valuable. The insides of fuel tubing gets soft and collapses. That bug later bit when Jim couldn't draw fuel from his tank and found bad tubing while borrowing a length of mine. I always carry a good bit in my tool box. Sure enough, same thing happened to me about a year later. That's why I always suggest being suspicious of all fuel tubing on a plane.
I would have to say we have made progress or have we?

I certainly think we have progressed, I even use full synthetic fuel and I used to be a castor only guy.
The .56 Saito I got from Jim is a real jewel I shined it up a little and had a new set of Boca Bearings in a drawer and there it sits. It will go on a Big Stick 40.

My wife alerted me to the time this morning and I had to rush up and close the message as I was really late going somewhere.
I was talking about was Jim discovered a long length of fuel tubing in his fuel jug had degraded and was collapsing when trying to draw fuel. Then, the same thing happened a month or so later to me but we had learned about this when running the 72 without the exhaust vent pressure line.
I know I got the engine tuned well enough to fly fairly well. I think increasing the fuel tank size would help a lot so that you always had a heavy load of fuel pressing into the carb. Short lengths of fuel line would be beneficial. Fuel tank height would probably need to be raised.

Well my two cents
i run the center of the tank at the center of carb and the shotest lines i can get away with. Thats just what i do on glow engines.
The other thing i am not a big fan of more the two line systems.
As far as fuel goes i have been running synthetic fuel since I got into the hobby that's all because my biggest mentor ran red max fuel and thats hard to get a hold of anymore for me. There is just no one running glow around here and if they do its in one plane and they might use a gallon in a year. Because red max requires a minimum order.

I have been using 3 line tanks from the start, just makes it easier to fill. I think my only 2 line is the Somethin Extra with the Saito 72 on it. I have a fueling valve. On second thought, I think both Cubs have a fueler valves too, which makes them 2 line tanks as well. I think my 3 line tanks are the gassers, and the P-51 with the 125.
well damn now you guys got me wondering which is what now with my setups.

We've had bad rolls of fuel line over here too,and it was a well known brand.I got caught and did'nt discover the answer to my tuning problem problem until it happened in my re fueling tin as stated above.It was a real eyeopener.I wonder if popo has completed the moderator training paperwork and sent it back? i'm sure he'd have a good look at this pic of a saito fa30sc with it's much different carb and exhaust,plus internals i suppose,if it really does rev to 22,000rpm...he might even comment on it.
Capt i'll bet you are looking forward to the test flight,are you using any castor? i like using using mas props for a test flight as they can take quite a hammering if it noses over slightly on the takeoff run or you bounce it a bit hard on the first landing.

Now Now Fart , I checked that pic out when u 1st posted it . So there ! I should do the moderator training course as it might stop those pesky inbox messages . Thanks to your pit girl pics and disgusting sense of humor and my lack of self control I seem to get into trouble a bit , but not too much . They let things slide more nowadays . You have worn them down . I can imagine when they see Farts posts they lie in the corner in a fetal position rocking back and forth .
This club was much more fun until others joined in and had to make is serious again. booo
I mean whats more fum than Beer, Booze, Bikes, Boobs and Broads and an occasional Saito remark? Oh, and Guns

does anyone know if there is a difference between a saito 45,50,and 56 cam?
seriously, Horizon has a box (upper right) on the Saito page you can click for discontinued engines parts
