I had one of the first 10 Conleys made. It ran well started easily. I had it on a Ace 4-120 Bipe that I built from a kit. It drew attention at fly-ins. If I'd gone to a 15" prop it would have 4" or 5" pitch. The only knock on the engine was that if you got a prop strike, the timing belt would slip. If that hapenned you had to remove the engine from the model take off the cam/belt cover and retime the cams vs crank. Made you extra careful with your landings.
I sold that engine to a German collector for more than I had in it. Replaced it in the model with a early HC Saito 1.50 and the growing pains with that engine are a whole other story.

In Basic Training we were ready at a line of maybe 25 .50 cal guns loaded with all tracers. A deer ran across the the range and everybody started firing. I fired too. We must have fired 500 rounds of tracer at that buck and we never hit him. I can't imagine what one round would do to a deer.

That's some good looking work you did on the velocity stacks, Dave. Real nice looking.
Time to celebrate around here. I stopped and admired a Kawasaki last Sunday afternoon as I drove by in a parking lot, and my wife was actually interested too. Not at first though. It took some fast talking to get her interest up at first. I asked her if she liked how the S 2000 slams our heads back into the headrests going thru the gears and told her that was nothing compared to something like one of those Ninjas. This one had a small windshield and not much else on it. I knew she had a weak spot. lol I can't believe she actually gave in to the idea. At least she didn't bring up the M-O-N-E-Y word.

You have to get married a third time to get it perfect and you can get the bike right the first time if you wed yourself to a Harley. And then there is all three. The truth is, she bought the bike.
Here is a picture of a Saito so we stay on topic

She's been on it exactly twice, both off those times to the Richmond County fair, rode home in the dark both times. There is no place darker than between 10' tall corn fields on route #3., I'm glad it has great head light. She has never operated a motorcycle.
She's also bought me a about three Saitos.

Thanks Pete, so,far we're good here, 50 at night and 70+ during the day, very comfortable. I am tied up replacing the cylinder head on my son's 2001 Ford Explorer 4.0 litre OHC cam engine. What an absolute nightmare. I got the old one off and it has a broken cam chain cassette on the rear of the right head. Great engine, piss poor design.
Really windy today, so no flying, also threat of rain, so no outdoor stuff. Going to go work in my shop instead and get thta T-Clips done now that I have the muffler, thanks Dave, Check your PM too.

Hope someone can help me with this issue, I have a Saito FA300T single carb that looses a cylinder after a couple of minutes running. Starts find idle is good, then the left cylinder quits.. High speed is turned out about 3 1/2 turns. F plugs are used for the glow., any ideas?

When I was biking in the late 60's and early 1970's I had a Yamaha RD-350 twin that I put a girlfriend on all the time. She knew how to hug in close on the curves and was steady as a rock when locking up the brakes into skids. I enjoy those rides out by myself but I'm sure Lynn would make it fun if I put her on the back too.

My son in law had a four litre ford explorer, the same model and the engine blew, they call them ford exploders here, cost him twice the price of an average engine rebuild here no idea why.
Jpal have you checked valve clearances? i have the gas version so no idea about the main needle setting.
Barry i think i know what you are saying, the devil or the deep blue sea? i'm sixty three and have a duke that makes a lot of real world useable power, without inviting you to a shootout at the ok corral and a short trip to the police station or boot hill. There's a kawasaki H2 here for 95,000 aussie dollars, they reckon it takes all the wrinkles out of your face in top gear
Jim...if you missed popey the first time i'd re load

Relax brother, we're here, most cylinder dying is due to being too rich, 3.5 turns is a lot, is that the peak rpm, Most likely the LS needle is too rich, lean it out some with the HS needle at absolute peak. That thing should idle at 1,600 or 1,700 rpm, (not while flying) of course.
Oh that is nice!
I find it funny when newb's show up to the club and don't get an answer right away, and get bent out of shape, pretty sure that's how some of our club posts got deleted. LOL.
Relax guys, its a CLUB, we aren't ignoring you, just waiting on the right person to answer since we are not all experts in Saito, some of us are and we wait until they show up to answer, so don't think we are ignoring you. I mean, have you guys seen the hit count on this thread? Over 2 MILLION!
