Hi Anton

The new pipes I've installed are the same angle as the kit pipes, I was careful not to change anything, I even measured the angle on both pipes side by side which was the same. I found the old pipes exited the nacelle perpendicular to the rear most part of the nacelle and so do the custom made Grumania pipes, They are however much longer as the kit pipes were not long enough to work with the Merlin 140's. When I see Ali's A10 next I'll have a close look at the pipe installation and compare it to the kit pipes.

Cheers, Alex
Hi Alex:
Is the diameter of your custom pipe larger than Skymaster standard one? Skymaster A-10 pipe is a little small for K-170 turbine and cause heat problem. So I made large pipes for the customer in Taiwan, they are 10mm larger than Skymaster pipes and installed in the same angle as original. I found once we trim up the elevator to keep the plane fly level on full throttle and then suddenly back the throttle to idle, the plane will climb slightly. I think it is caused by insufficient up thrust angle. The reason is that our larger diameter pipe can not deflect the exhaust flux upward as much as small pipe, even they are installed in the same angle. So installing the big pipe more upward angle or adjusting the turbine exhaust corn a little upward may solve this problem. We will try this in Taiwan next week.

I think this is a small problem and easy to fix, in fact our customer in Taiwan could not feel this problem before I told him to suddenly back throttle to idle from full power. He still made several excellent flights this Wednesday.

Here is the solution to lock the main gear on up- position and prevent the main gear pull out by high +G load. It is very simple, a small air cylinder and ply wood mounting bracket, that's all. There is a spring in the cylinder to pull the cylinder rod return for unlocking and an air tube connect to the cylinder supplies air pressure for up-locking. So this is a failsafe design, if air pressure is out, the main gear will unlocking and down automatically.
The air line of this up-locking cylinder is connected to the air line of close-side of nose gear door cylinder, so no extra control valve and sequence setting are needed. This is meaning when nose gear door is closed, the main gear up-locking is actived in the same time.

OK Guys,

Done with one wing for all surfaces including the air brake on the Ailerons the other wing should be quite easy. By the way the rod length suggested for the air brake for the Ailerons in too short. SM suggested 20mm and it should be 35mm.
I also installed the CF plates on the wing and they add tons of strength there. I noticed with summer heat here in Northern CA that one on my flaps bubble on the bottom surface. As you know those flap are seal and with the air trap inside them and heat is a bad combination. The solution is to drill a very small hole on each side of the flap. In my case with the use of my heat gun I managed to get the surface back to normal.

Best,

Gonzalo

Hi Guys.

A little bit more work here.... I wish I have more than that but extremely busy at work.

Quick question for the experts? Are you using an M5 screws to hold the landing gear to the wing? that should be the right screw in diam.... I am thinking of using the M5, tap the wood and use CA to reinforce the treads. I did that for the pylons for and M3 and that work like magic.

Finished we all componets on one wing..... the other wing should be quite fast. I got the retracts doors working to perfection on the mains. Sky Master did a fantastic job getting thoese doors to allign so well.... even the link lenght for one of the doors was set to perfection. I also notice that with 100 PSI the mains up hold quite firm..... to the point I don't know if I really need to install the locks. The EV5UEVO is already programed for retracts and the brakes are as usual on SM a work of art how effective they are. Most of the programing already done on all avionics.

Here are some pictures:

Enjoy,

Gonzalo

Looking good! This is the view I got of one with no locks and plenty of pressure pulling some G's last month.

Yes, they fit quite tight against the inlet of the engine....after the inlet curve you should estimate about 75mm would take the fan in depth.

What turbines are you planning to put on?

Best,

Gonzalo

And here we go with the locks on the mains! for thoese who are about to install the lock's kit from SM please notice the new woodwork provided for the pylon needs to be place about 1 cm towards the the front.
The locks works too perfection.... event if you have a leak then the spring comes active and the mains are unlock. Excellent job from SM.

Anybody flying the SM A10 on the US lately?

Gonzalo

Finally received my A-10...... it looks great.

Tomorrow they should start with the building process and the target is to have it ready for the first week of September.

Are you uys using independent fuel tanks for each turbine or are you connecting both tanks together ?

What pilot are you using for this plane ?

Very very nice Tocayo!

Independent tanks for each turbine it's my game.

Are you serious to have it ready in a month? can I send you mine to be finished! I just start the second wing!

Love the color scheme you choose!

Gonzalo:

I'm not going to assemble the plane..... somebody is going to do it for me since I just don't have the time and I want to have it as soon as possible. It's going to be the same guy that assembled my MB-339 and Viper. He is very fast since he can work all day.... he builts and repair planes for a living.

I guess I'm going to go with independent tanks on mine.

What pilot are you planning to use ?

Gonzalom, one tank for one turbine, all separate...
For pilot I insatlled the George Bush pilot, it fits really nice.

Gonzalo38 mine is ready, I am doing turbine tests today and hope to fly on Thursday or Friday... Will depend on weather...
Our builder takes 3-4 weeks in have it ready to fly...
