Well, after the family being sick for over a week, I got out to taxi test the P-47 today. Tail wheel shifted a little and it ground looped, putting a little side load on the right retract, (our runway is solid asphalt, so it grabs a little.) The retract frame did not fair well and while checking everything out, the retract stopped about a 1/4 of the way from retracted to extended. I was surprised at the deformation of the retract frame for a small side load. Have a note in with Gator RC to see what I can get for parts.

Contacted Gator RC ref the parts for the gear, but no response. Also sent an email to [email protected] as Facebook suggested and waiting for a reply.
Does anyone know for certain what angle the factory gear are? I would assume 85 or 90 degrees..

I think that the best way to gain access to the interior will be to remove the cockpit tub interior.
Be sure to post pics on your assembly of this bird; I'll be diving into mine in about a month or 2.
I have a DA100 I'm planning in putting in mine but I may have to break open the bank account and get the UMS 5-150 also.

Hey guys, I’ve got the other piece that was printed by Tom/Geoff. I think the infill could be reduced to make a lighter part. There’s no structural requirements and it’s pretty solid as is.
pic of mine mocked up in the cowl with the 125 UMS. Will probably trim it down a bit to locate it better.

Just an update from me, im five flights in, the ums 150 is singing now on the beila 25x14x4, the model is dialed in and performing just how i expected, much better in the upline for big loops!
Unfortunately the toprc retract mech is weak, one side has failed and there is slop in the other, my landings are not that bad!! Its just junk.
it's disappointing but i think i will have to go with electrons, i only went toprc as electrons were not available at the time of ordering.

My Feedback: (47)
Guys,
I have sold my project to focus on scale helicopters, as that is where my passion truly is. With that being said, I will be following along and if anybody needs an electric setup for this airplane, please let me know. I have the Neu Motors 8025-150, Jeti Spin 220 and the 24" Vario Prop setup with adapter for DA 100 which works for the Neu Motors prop adapter! All new in box. Figured I would let this thread know, since this combo what specifically chosen for the TopRC P-47. Just send me a message.

Obviously, same issue here with the gear.. Talked to Mike at Gator but doubt he's going to be able to come up with any spare parts, plus it'll probably happen again. Soo, I am also going to go with Electrons. Can anyone confirm if these are 85 or 90 degree actuators? Thanks.

Glad the UMS and that prop are working for you!

According to the specs from UMS, the 150 and 125 have basically the same diameter which does not make sense. Anyone using the 125, is it a tight fit? Do you have to use prop shaft extenders or modify the cowl in some fashion?
#345
the 125 is a bigger diameter, you will have to split the cowl to make it fit. The 150 only just fits.

I measured mine at 90deg, 15mm spigot.

Thanks for making me look at the angle again mudflap. I double checked my retract and it's definitely 90 degrees. Obviously the gear block flats aren't parallel to the bottom of the wing, lol.

Electron ER-50's are on order. The measurements are all pretty similar so, knock on wood, it shouldn't be major surgery to get these installed. The screw holes are a bit off, so there's that. I just hate paying for things twice. There must have been more than a few complaints about the stock gear, because I noticed Gator RC is now offering the plane without the gear.

Glad to hear they’re now “allowing” customers to purchase what they want without tying what they don’t.
Keep us posted on your electron journey (source, cost, installation, etc.).
I’m flying off grass so matter of time until more robust solution required.
Cheers
