I received another Saito .65 yesterday, on the house and an .82 that needs a little lovin and I will send back. The .65 has an N on the right lug. It was nearly castorated to death but I have it turning now. A set of Boca Bearings will put it back in running shape.
The man says the .82 is down on power, on first look I don't see a reason for that, I'll dig deeper.
PS, Pete, here is a little red for ya, a Harley Street 500, maybe my next bike.

The 1.25 intake pipe measures 10.5 mm at the bottom and 11mm at the top
The 1.00 intake pipe measures 10 mm at the bottom and 10.5 mm at the top. I measured around the circumference to make sure the curve was not causing the difference. They are both straight at that point. Interesting.

as far as saito engine outside dimensions go they list the 125 and 115 from crank centre line to the top of the rocker covers at 104mm and 100mm respectively, take note jim
I'm not sure what jim and bruce(acdc) are on at the moment but it's considered downright rude not to share
I thought you said you had a Spitfire a while back, I guess not

Jim, I just remembered a factoid concerning the 1.15 it had 115 stamped right on the muffler cap.
PS, I found my very own picture of it.

Dave, I'm hoping Pete doesn't see this post,, accordingly to Horizon the 115 will only turn an APC 15x6 to 8,800,, while accordingly to RCU's Tach Page the 100 will turn that prop at 9,300 and higher,,
but notice on the Tach Page the difference in the 100's RPM with the same Nito percentage, some are turning 9.3 while others are turning 9.6 & 9.8, I'm wondering if some of hose guy's have their Cam Timing off, and of course Plug can change RPM's, but 600 RPM is a noticeable difference,,
but never forget, Retarding a Cam's Timing can (yet may not) increase the RPM of a given engine,
Horizon's Saito Spects,,

I received a very nice gift in the mail yesterday, mid model Saito .65 with an N on the right lug. It is obviously a castor queen. As you can see I dismantled it completely. It is the model picture, (with box), not it obviously, as it has the more modern carb but the black muffler. I will enjoy refurbishing it. I also received an .82 I'm going give a physical and then send back.

I'd soak that 65 in Antifreeze for 6, 8 hours on low,
Dave, and I didn't think quick enough, we can bet those RPM numbers were checked with different Tachs,, I saw 3 tachs check an engine once, and they gave 3 different reading of course, yet all 3 were within 300 RPM

I will do that very thing, I gotta see a hip Dr. tomorrow, Ill get back on the engines Thursday. As to the .82 being low on power, three of the exhaust holes in the muffler cap were plugged up, they are now clear and about 1/64" larger. The .82 has great no leak down compression. I'm looking for about 9,500 on a Xoar 14x6, anybody want to vote.
Jim i did see your post and we'll argue that later.I'm to scared to quote anybody right now in case more green pictures come up.
Dave anybody bought up in the fifties and sixties is already hip,the doc will tell you thatso the retro styling youngsters and cafe cool motorcycle riding hipsters today crave it and harley make a good dollar feeding that.I liked the leg pull about buying a harley xg500 learners bike.If you could lasso a west aussie bull ant to a harley xg500 in a tug of war i'd back the angry ant.

I don't look at it as a learners bike with it's four Titanium valves per cylinder Michelin Radials and 6 speed tranny and 492 pound weight. I just watched a video by one of your countrymen, he said and showed that it is quick getting up to speed. It is so quiet he had to lean down to the engine to hear. it. He did make one error, he said the 500 was mfd in India, the 500 is mfd in Kansas City USA. Maybe they make them in India for your country.

Royal Enfield is doing very well, in fact they just did a huge expansion to double their capacity. They make 500cc bikes for the US and 350cc bikes for most of the rest of the world. They have several models and color schemes. We're are having a near blizzard or I would run the Saito .82.
They have electric start and very good fuel injection hidden in a very Amal carb looking housing.

Dave when you run the 82 with a xoar 14x6 can you back to back it with an apc 14x6,just interested not looking for higher or lower numbers for either as in one is better than the other.
The xg500 harley is listed here (and in europe) as a lams (learner approved motorcycle) bike by the australian gummint as is the royal enfield 500 and both have the same performance. The harley makes a little more power than the enfield single but is much heavier,i've ridden them both we have them in the shop often. The only way either of those bikes will crack the old ton is to drop them straight down a mineshaft. In india the enfield 350's and smaller capacities are the biggest sellers while the 500 is more suited to export markets such as ours where we have better roads and flatter country.
ps okc you might like to look at a you tube vid of indian craftsmen pinstriping royal enfields with an old tobacco tin full of gold leaf and a long dagger liner brush,it's a treat to watch. You may have noticed that triumph also make there fuel injected bikes look like old carby models.

The top speed for the 750 is listed in several mags as 110 the 500 at 80. There are/were two brothers who did the pin striping free hand, one on the day shift the other the night shift. I understand the 500 being, (on the LAM list) with it's light weight and precise handling. At 64 mpg it would make a great commute vehicle for an apartment dweller on a budget.
I'll search diligently for an APC 14x6 and see if I can get it within a half ounce of balanced and has a straight hole in it. I have about three APC's out with crooked holes in the, one I managed to save using a .25" piloted 5/16" B&B drill.

Thanks Jim, but I did manage to find an APC 14x6, the only one I have, It's badly out of balance, I'll try to balance it without making one blade translucent. The .82 needs a rear bearing, when I wiggle the blade tips the crank moves inside the engine, the front bearing is still precise.

I need your help men, my toy is broken !!
OK so I did it, yee-up I did, and I do not regret it, I took it apart, my Saito 100, to change the ring, the new ring has more tension just as I suspected,, BTW, other than just how they look on the out side, I can see how this is a very nicely build engine, I understand now why you guys are sO addicted to Saito,,
but I found a problem and I need input from you guys before I try to fix it,,
I found that one of the Tappet Boars has a Burr at the bottom of it's Boar, the Tappet will not drop threw the hole, it needs the Spring to push it threw, and it does NOT slide smoothly, you can feel the roughness threw the Tappet as I move it up & down,,
the Burr must be removed !!
so how do I go about doing this without scratching the inside of the Boar ?
it just goes to show, if it's not 9/16th of something, it's 5/8ths of something else !!

I'm betting the Zoar will turn 400 to 700 less RPM than the 14x6 APC, but it will pull harder and look better while doing it ,
I'b like to see you also try a Zoar 14x5 against the 14x6 APC ??
