If there are some expert Saito gas engine readers here I was checking the timing on my Saito 150 to make sure it was not changing after running it two hours and decided to check the Ignition timing on my FG 11. It is set at 40 degrees btdc, can this be correct, the lowest the adjusting slots will allow is 34 degrees. Does this seem right to you folks? It runs great, I even switched to a C&H unit and it stayed the same.

when I was a kid growing up in Vermont a car with a 100 thousand miles on it was a big thing, but then when I saw an old guy on a old Guzzi that had 150 thousand miles on it that was something crazy, and yet I saw more than one old Guzzi with 150 thousand miles on it, and to add, you can guess what the riders all said>>>>>>>>>>> "she's not that pretty, but she's one nice ride"

Dave all i know about saito ignitions is that some of the early modules were inconsistent re spark performance.Saito fixed that pretty quick and the unit on my fg57 twin is faultless.If you get good idle/transition and the proper max rpm for that engine and prop all's good or are you saying you want to experiment with the timing? cheers
ps jesse your pic of the beesa lightning brings back some good memories,loved that flat angry bark they made as the tacho needle swung thru the 4000 mark.Your instruments look different.Beautiful pinstriping on the guzzi fuel tank.
pps jim that would be the motobecane 51v moped released in the early eighties,great fun to ride but any serious big bore bike rider caught riding one,as i did,was in for a serious and prolonged ribbing from your mates and all the people they told.

Yep, that's exactly what I want to do, I'd like Dan's input on that, he runs some of his engines at 35 degrees btdc. My 1.00 is the only Saito I have at 35 btdc, the high compression .80 and 1.50 are at 30 btdc. The other day when I was running the 1.50 with the MA Maple 18x6 the engine was pretty rattley at full throttle, and 7,200 was the peak, it's a hard turning prop. The prop swish on that 18x6 sounded like a Cessna 182 at idle. I am going to mix up a new gallon of fuel for the FG 11, 89 octane Ethanol free and Klotz full synthetic.. I may play with making a timing plate for a strobe timing light if the shielded sparkplug will trigger the light.

How bout a 1974 Ducati 750. This one had a loose guide. The previous owner had gone racing and had some head work done. The shop buggered the guide installation. I had to re-bore the guide hole and fit a guide with an oversized OD. The bike was fun on the the sweeping turn roads but not for long

I have run the FG 11 on the CH Ignition using the stock Saito Hall Effect sensor and it runs fine, I can't tell whether the stock Saito ignition has Synchro-Spark, (or similar) or not. I'll figure it out.

sorry man i am calling it, no Saito 72 and 82 show down this weekend. I forgot how long it takes to build a hog let alone 3.
I will finish up the Hogs after Sig and will run the 82 next weekend.
So now it’s off to clean out trailer and load what i have ready to fly. Most have Saito’s and all are just itching to run.

Crunch, Go and have some fun, as I mentioned before, I have an .82 crankcase and a few other parts. I keep being tempted to build one.

What method are you using to find the firing point? Is the ignition firing on the leading or trailing side ?

The picture above looks like OKC today. We have had a Thunderstorm stalled overhead for about 2+ hours. Millie my poor Chickendor (Chicken masquerading as a Chocolate Labrador) is about to have a nervous breakdown. Now Julia the Boxer/Beagle just ignores the storm but she doesn't want o go out in the rain.

It is. Paid $300 for it and the 10-300 Ultimate that it came in, and that plane flew good until the throttle arm came loose and closed the throttle, then with a tail wind and no lift it planted itself. It will go into a SIG Liberty Sport when I build it.
