Geoff,

You mentioned in an earlier post that you may have to stiffen the under carriage, did you stiffen the nose wheel? mine seems way to soft and actually over travels so the tyre hits the oleo.

RE: Airworld Hawk Building thread
Hi Martin, Yes I stiffened it up. The 'proper' way is to get a stronger spring of course but as my Hawk was a very early one I had to improvise. I experimented with various techniques but in the end I used a 1 inch length of rubber tubing inserted on top of the spring which meant that the spring was already 25-33% compressed. This stiffened it up nicely. The rubber tubing I used was the orange thick walled stuff that is sold for camping gas canisters.

Has anyone had problems with Air World fuel tanks leaking ?
I recently decided, once and for all, to find the cause of fuel leaking in my Hawk, the tank is porous, a myriad of tiny holes with a couple of significant leaks !
I had already applied two patches to the tank before installation but now it looks like a patchwork quilt AND has a layer of West System epoxy over it, making it look messy and heavier. Final pressure test tomorrow, but in the meantime I would like to hear if my problem is isolated.
Regards,
David Gladwin.

HI David,
My airworld panther tank has patches all over it. You are not alone. Peter has had the same experience on his cougar I believe.
Regards,
Craig.

Thanks chaps. I will forward my comments to Hans-Dieter. Its not good enough !
Regards,
David.
PS I have now written to H-D asking for his comments on this matter.
We really should not have to spend time correcting basic deficiencies, not on a model of this price. A one-ff I can handle but this seems to be an ongoing problem.
I have also reminded him of the need for strengthening the fin spar after several failures.
Regards,
David.

Of course, no answer from Air World to my email !
Insult to injury. Going back into the garage where the Hawk is inverted waiting to receive the repaired tank, there is a pool of smoke fluid on the floor, with more inside the fuselage, what a mess !
The smoke tank is leaking at the top. I see I had already put four spots of Hysol on it, to stop leaks in its orignal state, but yet another leak has developed. A tank does not have to do much, being leakproof is one of the few things it has to do !
Why , when we pay serious money for these parts , are modellers expected to put up with this sort of nonsnse.
Comment ?

No argument here from me David. I guess as long as people buy it they just keep selling it! Or until enough of a fuss is made that they have to change their ways. Funny how substandard can eventually become accepted as the norm isn't it? Then again, you only have to look at politics to see a perfect demonstration of that. I'd better stop there.[8D]

Guys, finally is a fact. After two years wait, my friend's Hawk is on the bench. Now I have had received some news that will push me to speed up this project. SB is on, canopy almost ready for glue, gears installed, and few other minor stuff. Still cutting holes here and ther while the Hysol order hit home. I was testing the turbine install and find the first arg...... This bird is designed for a jetcat engine and their off set mount. My friend is using a Rhino so I will see how I get this turbine center in the bypass. I got an idea, will see if work later......

Nice work Henry. My panther flies well! I had to change out a few of the servos though on the flaps and the nose wheel steering as they were not strong enough. She looks great in the air though (Blue tail fly)
Kind regards,
Craig.

Did something I have never done before! I took the chance and here is the result for the first try. I splash the LE of the flap and make a mold from it. The glass stick to the parting board even with 8 coats of wax and PVA. Next time I will put some clear tape or monokote and wax over it. That way I will not have to worry about to much fixing. But the part I need came out great for the lay out. You can see the rivet marks in the mold.

Thought you guys might like to see my video made at a recent seafront airshow where I live in the UK. Shows the RAF solo Hawk doing a very nifty routine with negative pushovers etc.

RE: Airworld Hawk Building thread
Here's a few pics of the old hawk Ive got my hands on to build for a friend of mine.Funny things is, this was Mark Schroeders old one! tones of work done already but much more to do before shes ready for paint. Next I will start on the wings and thinking of the idea of a scale mounted canopy, has anyone got some detailed pics of how you did it?
