Seems like buying Lasers are more miss than hit for quite a while now. Hope they aren't going belly up!

so i know i come and go here but work has been fruitful and i have been blessed.
So anyway I managed to get a Saito.65 off eBay a while back and it was missing the intake and carb so I found that i had a spar .80 intake and carb and with a little reaming i now have a Saito.65 that will turn a 13X6 at 11200RPM’s.
I think I might have a race engine for a good 50 size P51.
so i know i come and go here but work has been fruitful and i have been blessed.

I was wondering the same thing, but a prop that loads the engine more and brings down the RPM should help if he has a problem, I really would like to see more testing, but that's all about finding the time to do it

well it idled nice and transitioned good
i will get out and run it again this weekend with a 14-6 and see how it pulls. I will try to put up some numbers but.
Hobbs it way better at that stuff then me so don’t expect that kund of a report

Early 65 carb barrel ID==7.5 mm++
Later 65 carb ID.===7 mm
Saito early 80 Carb barrel ID===7.75 mm??
I have two 65's and an 80, so I pulled the carbs and measured the venturi's, it appears that the early 65 and the 80 are the same with the later 65 being slightly smaller.

I just ran the the Saito 82-a for 35 minutes, sure was coold on the fingers setting the LS needle, it could use a little more leaning (LS) as it accelerated some when I pulled the fuel line to shut it down.
Saito 82-a with new Boca Bearings and new lifters.
Fuel====Wildcat 10% with 18% full syn.
Prop ===Graupner 14 x 7 G-Sonic same one as run on the 82-b
Plug====Fox Miracle
Exhaust=Stock muffler
Max RPM=9,150 exactly the same as the 82-b, yep, amazed me too, although they should be the same.
Idle RPM==1,890 slightly faster than the 82-b
Ambien temp 52 f

saito 91 f
Hi all Saito lovers. I have an older 91 f I was given from one of our club members, but it needs a rebuild. I was looking for rocker cover gaskets and possibly some engine parts. The part numbers and letter designations are kinda confusing for the parts I might need. Are other similar size saito engine parts, such as rocker gaskets be used for my older saito 91 ? I'm a first time saito user and looking forward to this rebuild. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, John

Jesse, where do you get your stock from? I have a lathe and mill sitting with nothing to do. This winter I want to finish up the B-25 and need to make some fittings for the NGH exhausts. Look what I just came across though, https://hobbyking.com/en_us/torqpro-...oke-cycle.html Doesn't give specific dimensions, so no clue if it will fit the P-61, but that would be plenty of power if it does.

I don't actually know, I know that I've used them for 20+ years and always the same hard chrome $11.88 and most of the time free shipping. Sadly they call them Econo Bearings and people mistake that for cheap, I have never replaced a set that I installed. I did install a set of their ceramic bearings in a Fox 50 Diesel conversion, I probably wasted the money but I had to try them. I wrecked the Fox 50 and moved them to another Fox 50 without boogering them up, they must be tough.
The 82-a I just ran has a plastic back plate but no issues with that.

Regarding the plastic back plates:
I don't think anyone is saying they all have issues.Certain;y not right away! If you run them hard and long, you are very likely to see problems . If you service engines for many other folks, even more likely.
Most every 82 where I have seen problems resulting in a plate replacement also had sufficient distortion of that opening to require cleaning up the distortion before the plate would fit. (Always near the right lug) The area near the lug is silly thin and the support from the metal backplate is a welcome improvement from my experience. I have three 72 and four 82. A couple of those I have run very hard and long.
Two of the metal plates were installed on 82s with a "A" on the right lug, one is a "B" lug marked. All of my 72s and one remaining 82 still sport their original plastic backplates.

I often check out scrap metal yards as they wind up with bar-ends and odd pieces and you can often buy it a prices just above scrap , much lower than paying a cutting charge and the going rate for virgin material. Since you are going to be machining it, the at hand condition is not a huge factor. Annealed Allen wrenches are a source of high strength hex stock.
When I need something specific but not real large, it is surprising what you may find with an eBay search. Metric tubing, brass bar etc.
One of my favorite sources, and I think they will ship to you is Factory Steel in Highland Park MI. In fact, the hospital where I was born was about two blocks away and right across the street from the historic Ford plant where the Model T Fords were built. Here is their link:
