Hi there!
I couldn't look over this mega thread so it almost felt mandatory to tell you folks here about my Saito's.
I've got a FA56, FA60, FA72, FA82, FA91, FA120s and a FA150.
The .56 .72 and 1.50 are currently stored away for use in the future but the FA56 is used on a Calmato trainer which gives it a bit more to do some thrilling maneuvers as far as possible on this model. The FA82 is used for a Calmato sports which turns this model in a real racer and torque-master! The FA91 is used for the C.G. Chipmunk. It is the recommended size for this model so it flies very docile but is capable of doing all the tricks in the book . The FA120s is used for my Retlas Spitfire there where the former FA150 was a bit too much. With this config it flies like on rails and more scale like.
With all this do I qualify for membership?
The reason I chose Saito was first of all for the looks and second of all the pricing, power and durability!

The Saito 72 is the max engine that you can put on the Four*40 we have one at our club! In my view it has to much power it will go from takeoff to vertical up to about 400ft real quick of course that guy is running 30% heli fuel! I wouldn't think that would be good for the Saito for very long! I use 15% Cool Power or 20/20 four stroke fuel! would like other view's on the Heli fuel before I put any in my bird! if at all!

Thinking real hard about the Funtana90 might be to much bird for me right now! Also looking real hard at the Funtana 40 too! don't want to bite off more than I can chew at this time.Only been flying for about a year now and don't feel I'm ready for the bigger bird yet just a thought!!

I operate the Fa82 with 10/18 Klotz and it runs just fine with that combo. Klotz oil apparently has a better lubrication factor so less is needed. But that's just a suggestion from our local dealer which I trust with 25 years working with 4 strokes.... Just my responsibility to find out if he's right or not But for the last 14 years flying with this config gave me no problems at all.

I would definately suggest castor in your fuel.
There was a Funtana 40 at the club and it was a very good plane. I saw it crash hard when a rudder CA hinge, or two, failed and it stalled high before hitting nose first. There was not as much damage as I thought from a lightly built plane like the Funtana. The 90 is being flown by a 15 year old who is learning pattern. I'm not a big fan of ARFs, but I watched him tail slide it one day. I later asked him about it and asked what a tail slide was. It did it exceptionally well without him knowing what he was doing. I would scratch build one if I could borrow it for a while for measurements, patterns, etc.
That 4* may get a .82 in it for a while as it will fit where a .72 would sit too. It is crazier to fly Somethin' Extras with .82s but a few people on RCU are doing it. Since I have them both I think I should see what they will both do....

Well, folks, I did it again.
Some of you are aware I’m assembling a new 82” twin, a very light plane, (first picfture) and I was planning on using a pair of K&B 6560 “Pumper” ringed 61 engines. Lousy fit. See second picture. Would have to cut a lot of wood away and use an extension to get the muffler below the wing.
Did a trial fit with my FA-72GK. Beautiful. But I want more power.
Bit the bullet and ordered a new pair of FA-82a engines for the plane.
What can I say? Combination of Saito love and “Twinsanity,” I suppose.

Read the reports on both the 40 and 90 on the user reviews section. The 90 is a bit more docile than the 40. I had the 40 and loved it, after I got over the twitchies. My 40 had a FA91 in it. A friend at the field has a 90 with a Saito 150 and let me fly it. I would get a 90 before another 40.

Just received my saito 125 and am looking for the best prop for it I had a 120 os on the same plane and ran a 15x8 GRAUPNER will this be a good prop for the 125??

My Diablo 40 with the K&B 61 will take off vertically, it's about six pounds. With the FA-82a engines this one might outrun a Saturn Five rocfket. Well, maybe not quite that fast, but it should go like the hammers.

Well, I just ordered my 2nd Saito engine, the FA180aGK. I have the .91 twin but haven't built the plane for it yet. The 180 will be used for the large Super Sportster. It's some overkill, but I guess I will just limit the throttle. I just ordered a JR XP9303 radio so this should be a fun R/C week!!
I am new to R/C power and was wondering if Wildcat 2- and 4-stroke fuel is satisfactory? It has a 15% nitro and 18% synthetic oil mix. Can anybody make any suggestions in this area? Any other operating suggestions that aren't in the manual would be appreciated. Anyway, they sure are beautiful engines and I look forward to playing with them. Thanks for any suggestions!

Guy, most folks on here are more comfortable running a fuel with some castor. I personally run have run WildCat Premium Extra or Premium with 18% 80/20 lube and 16% 80/20 lube respectively since 1991. When comparing the way the two fuels run there is no detectable difference. I recently purchased 4 gallons of WildCat 15% Premium Extra and 6 gallons of PowerMaster 15% with the same 18% 80/20 lube and they run identically.

As has been stated many times, synthetic oils will not protect the cam and lifters as well as the castor oils do. While the valve gear will last a good while in spite of the poor lubrication qualities of the synthetics, for maximum engine life castor oil is necessary. Castor also helps the bearings last longer.
The use4 of after run oil will also lengthen the life of the engine.

Is your saito 80 inverted? I cannot get mine to idle without onboard glow heat. Omega 15% and original plug. Would appreciate help from anyone. It replaced a saito 65 which idled fine, so tank location etc. is ok.

allright i need help, i have put two sets of front bearings in my 100(double sealed ceramics) and both leaked the grease out, the first i tapped in with a small wooden dowl at the outer race and the second i tapped in with a cut off broom handle that i thought fit perfect and it did go straight in, i did see seal damage on the first but not the second[:@]
now, what tools do you guys use and what proceedure?

On reflection it's possible you're leaking around the bearing and not through it. Flyboy Dave has mentioned using thin CA around the bearing to seal the outer edge, I don't think I'd like to do it but it's a thought.
If you are actually blowing the grease out of the seal check your case vent - something is getting the internal pressure too high.
