Welcome to Club SAITO !
Interesting shot of my 82 piston. When I first saw it I thought, Wow detonation and cracks!!! Neither, just post casting shrinkage or some kind of casting flaws that were too low to machine off. Whew! Still, I'm not jumping and up down for joy at how it looks if you know what I mean.
I was very surprised to find that no machining is performed to create the valve reliefs, just cast and left that way.
roflmao, hahaaaa!

I was hoping someone here would know, it's a question on the other network, I sort of broadened his search for him. I'll get a picture of the box, maybe that will help a little.

I have 5 saitos and an OS FS all mounted inverted and have never experienced siphoning. In one case the tank centerline is 3/4" above the spray bar, still no problems. I fill the tank with the throttle closed, don't over prime and use an electric starter.
More: When filling a dry tank from the previous day's flying session I'll plug the exhaust and flip the engine over 4 times with the throttle wide open. After the first start of the day no more priming and between flights I keep the throttle completely closed.

I have experienced siphoning with my Saito 65 mounted inverted on a Kyosho P-40. Make a mess in the cowl so I just gas & go typically. This year I plan on swapping it out for an fa-56 (the 65 was too heavy) and if I continue to have the problem I’ll add a Cline regulator to the setup.
Or if perferred I also have an excellent running FA62a that makes the full rated 1.0hp. Same case size as the 56.

To fill in my lineup, I bought a used fa72a I want to compare to the 82b I should receive soon.

I was hoping to help with this one as I have the same engine with box and instructions but there is no reference to an insert sleeve as an option. Perhaps they’re random bits thrown in with the engine. The only carb I’m aware of using a restriction sleeve is the OS 7D carb.

I bring 3 or 4 planes to the field to fly. I pretend like I'm going to fly the first one so the gremlins and pixies jump on it while I'm secretly flying a different one.
Trees are like rattlesnakes, they can strike out 3/4 of their body length. I've seen it too many times to deny it. When I go to fly-ins I always ask where THE tree is, there is always at least one.
At the last out of town fly-in I should have asked where the chiggers were. Not fun.

My last oot warbird show was rain off and on for four hours, on a panhead. Then to arrive with to much wind to fly at the facility. Just to turn around and roll back on the rain slick, black pavement after dark.
I did have glasses and leathers though. Kept the chiggers down.
Jinx the bermuda triangle affects hit the odd saito pilot here too,but a respected club member has a different theory...our club is on the coast next to garden island where the australian navy has a base.He swears he only loses planes when the yankee subs are in town
ps glowy i cracked up about the rattlesnake trees

I lost a park zone spitfire to a rattlesnake tree once. I thought I was inside the tree line but either my depth perception was off or the tree reached out to grab it. Lesson was to keep the line of sight above the tree line.
Rudolph, I was in Perth once when I was in the Navy during the 80’s. We had a 5 day port of call on the carrier USS Constellation. Beautiful city! I still remember the boat tour we took up the Swan river to wine country. Everyone was so friendly and hospitable. The cabbies made sure we knew when the America’s Cup was when Dennis Conner briefly won it.

I have come to the conclusion the AMA is useless. It's bad enough we are required to register with the FAA, now we have to disfigure our scale birds with the stupid number. Screw them, going to make the number so small you need a magnifying glass to see them. They say has to be outside, they didn't say how big!

Good to know Glowgeek. I heard nothing but good reviews in the 62V so when I had the chance to buy one at a great price I couldn’t resist. It has the look of a Saito which is perhaps why it looks so nice. Powerwise, looks like it falls between the Saito 65 and 72.My 82b arrived yesterday. What a beauty!
back when I was looking to buy a Saito FA100 I found a bench ran OS 95V for a good price, I found prop/RPM numbers on both the FA100 and 95V, in "those" numbers I saw the Saito turned the APC 15x6 faster than the OS did, but the OS turned the smaller prop faster, sorry, it's been a long time, I can't remember what that smaller prop was. never the less, that end result with the 15x6 is one of the main 4 reasons why people will buy the Saito over the OS,
now that the Saito/OS thing has been brought up again, I have to say that I have no idea why used OS engines hold a higher resale value over a Saito of the same size, I have seen it many times, and it just makes no brain sense to me

I don't get the used OS prices either. The only used OS engines I have been buying have been smaller 2 cycle engines. I have been amazed how cheap they are selling.

I recently sold an O.S. fs-70II I had on a profile Katana in favor of the Saito 65 which I purchased NIB. They both have the same relative weight & power. The fs-70 ran perfectly fine, is a mild manner engine and unintimidating to start. The carb is easy to tune as well.
Maybe it’s me, but the Saito 65 requires more caution when starting. It’s a beast! It kicks a lot more and probably not fully broken in and tuned yet. I only have a few flights on it with my P-40.
So if one one is looking for lighter weight, raw power, great reliability with good looks Saito is the way to go. But OS has a place as well due to their ease of operation.
