Welcome to Club SAITO !
Thanks Dave, a little encouragement goes a long way. BTW, the 82a piston is supposed to be fully machined across the piston top as well. My piston never had the chance to get cleaned up all the way across the top because the casting was not tall enough. There's probably quite a few 82a piston out there like mine. Perhaps new molds were made at some point to address the problem?
My cousin is a quality manager at an automotive parts casting plant, he said, "There's nothing to worry about, they're not cracks, they're recesses left by a buildup of mold release compound in the mold". Apparently this is common maintenance problem with investment casting. On the other hand he said, "At my plant that part would've been thrown back into the furnace". WHAAAAT? Lol
The money pit goes back together today.

Saito 120-S DP, ready for new owner
Saito 120-S DP with pump going to new owner.
Saito 82 piston/rod, 82 crank case and 72 piston. The 28 mm should say 29 mm.

The tank pressure regulator will be included
Tank pressure adjuster at rear.
The nipple at the needle valve goes to atmosphere. The others go, one to crankcase vent and the other to the tank. Easy peasy, not so easy to adjust.

My favorite Saito large case engine. The pump can be used without the needle valve, simply venting to atmosphere. Most people try to over-pressure the tank.
If I didn't already have three of them.. .. ..
The cylinder looks like it has a different finish from the case??? Looks like a frosty, matte finish;or is that the lighting?

I haven't touched it other than to run it about 30 minutes, it was new and unrun, it runs really smooth. I did not run it at full throttle. I came with a J-Tec in cowl muffler which I passed on to someone. The muffler shown is a 150 muffler.
The Battle is WON!
For those of you familar with my money pit FA82a it's now making the full rated 1.5hp spinning an APC 13x7 at 10150 rpm / idles beautiful at 1950. It was a new piston ring that healed it. After 3/4 gl of fuel it still doesn't like an APC 14x6 but it'll come around with time.
Dave, the rpm climbed 1000 rpm during the 7000 rpm 10 min run.

That usually happens during the 5000 rpm 10 minute run, you done good. It'll peak in about 50 minutes if it's typical.
Dave, I noticed the grub screw footprints on the hub
Still tempted, can't have too many Saito 120 dual plug pumpers!

That begs the question, at what point does the crank case pressure begin to adversely effect the engines power output. For years we've advised people against putting too much fuel line on the vent, now we deliberately block the vent flow to,pressurize a tank. If you used a regulator you could put the tank anywhere it suited you.
Note stiff walled Sullivan tank bulging.
