RE: Skymaster 1:6 A10 Build
Eric,
Personally, I would say SM over FlyEagle. Their new materials may be a bit lighter than the SM but the scale details of the SM are far better than the FEJ from what I have seen. The SM u/c (as usual by Likai) is a work of art and the rivets don't look like they've been borrowed from the Titanic [8D]

Mark, yes I installed the stock pipes on the jet, no problems so far.
There is a very slight pitch change when you go from mid power to full power, but I tend to think this is because the overpower on the jet. I have installed two cheetahs with 31lbs of thrust. In level flight I only have to go to half power for normal flight so I have a lot of extra power when I go full power, the pitch change is noticeable on full power only and on a low and level pass. Anyway the change is very small and most pilots will not even notice it. Also I am not sure if this pitch change will be noticed if you have a smaller turbine.
But I prefer to have that slight pitch change and have all that extra power for verticals...
Now in terms of general flying, the jet is amazing, it fly's so nice and predictable, it is very stable... All aerobatics are posible with this one...
I tested air brakes on the air and the A-10 had no change in attitude, kept being stable. You add flaps and it is even better, it just seems to sit in the air, it is amazing how slow this jet can go.
In my prsonal opinion this is really a winner, the jet comes painted like no other brand, it is very scale with rivets, panel lines and antennas, the landing gear is just simply incredible, the cockpit is amazing and to add to all this the flying characteristics are excelent... It is definetly a winner and I am sure that anyone who gets one will be very happy with it...

RE: Skymaster 1:6 A10 Build
Just back from a day testing new toys, and inspired by Michel's video, I decided to give my Hog a go without the ordinance. Wow! What a difference.... My A-10 is so much more pleasurable to fly. It felt so much lighter on the sticks, tracked better, was more agile and landed far easier.
I just think that the wing is a great design, but gets to a weight where it just a bit unhappy, and without the ordinance it seems so much happier. I even managed to do a short finals, descending turn approach as I used to with my Mibo.. Something that I would never do when it had all the stores. What was even more impressive was that I did this with full decellerons open!! [X(]
My only regret is that I didnt have a video camera with me.
Regards Al

Sounds a bit more promising Al [8D]
Out of interest, did you fly the Mibo with the equivalent full suite of stores? I only seem to recall the sidewinders on it??
What does your SM ordnance weigh? Just wondering if it was a pre production set? Although my set is not exactly light!

RE: Skymaster 1:6 A10 Build
HI all, I had a good look at a new Skymaster A-10 at new England jet Rally , this past week end. I am really impressed at the overall looks, quality and size of Skymasters A-10.
The landing is is so robust.
Also two Jet Central Cheetah's where installed.
I think, it was not quite ready for flight, so it was there for show and tell.
Since I new it was going to be their, I brought my weight scales.
No ordinance
Nose=8lb. 1oz.
Right main=24lb. 13 oz.
Left main= 24lb. 13 oz.
Total dry= 57 lb. 10 oz.

Gonzalo, thanks for the promo...
Ali, give us a video... I do my best with my videos but we all want to see you fly this bird...
Anyway just got a bit more flying this weekend on the A-10, I just keep loving it more and more on each fly I make. I haven't tested it with full ordinance as Ali did so I am not sure how mine will work but I hope to try out next weekend...
When you get to know the A-10 a bit more you find out that the landings are really a great experiense, it has a great mix of floating and drag, which make landings very confortable. In flight I have tested most regular manouvers and it does everything great, rolls, inverted, cuban eights, etc... all are done great, for a scale model of course... Knife edge flight is impressive as very little rudder is needed to keep it level, but you do need to play with ailerons and elevator to keep it straight... I am sure this model is originaly not intended for this type of things...
Here are a few more pics of last weekend...

Yes it does come down when I push hard on elevator for some manouvers, mostly when I go up for a vertical, in rolls and other manouvers I haven't noticed this problem.
It doesn't really bother me that much and I am still thinking if I want the modification Skymaster did for solving this problem. From one side it is kind of relaxing knowing that if the air goes out the landing gear will just drop and lock into position... Form the other side we all want out models to be perfect... so I still do not really know if I will install the mod or not... For now I will keep flying as it is...

RE: Skymaster 1:6 A10 Build
Michel,
Do you have an AUW dry of yours?
I think it was fairly well documented that Ali's weighed 25kg (55lbs) with a full set of ordnance (which if the box of parts I was sent is anything to go buy, weighs a lot) so the example rcpete weighed at nigh on 58lbs seems very very heavy??
My GUESS is that all the pylons and orndnance weigh at least 10lbs so that model would weigh about 70lbs?? Not sure that can be right.
Cheers,
Mark

Hi Mark, sorry I haven't weighted mine... The ordnance does not seem particularly heavy to me, I will try to weight it next weekend and see how much more weight it puts on the jet.
In general with this turbines (cheetahs) the A-10 definetly is overpower. 80% of the flight is done at half power or a bit more and full power is only used for takeoff and for big verticals
Anyway I will try to weight the ordinance alone and I will see what happens...

RE: Skymaster 1:6 A10 Build
I am torn between a Skymaster A10 and Mibo 4th Gen. Looks like there are pros and cons to both.
Would it be correct to say, if you really want a scale version in the end, Mibo is the route to go? I guess you cannot go too wrong with either one.

RE: Skymaster 1:6 A10 Build
wxman2,
The ideal solution would be a RTF Mibo 5th Generation featuring the pros of the SM A-10
You do also need to bear in mind the build effort - depends if you're a builder as the Mibo is not a quick build by any means. Nor does it have the all the scale details the SM has - the flaps, decelerons, fans, raised rivet details are all areas where the SM is better.
The Mibo quality is unrivalled but you pay for it and it's slightly larger for more presence. The SM gear is better and it comes painted as does the ordnance saving you hundreds of hours just there.
Flying wise, it seems as if the Mibo has it - just.
Tricky choice! As you say, you can't go wrong with either one really. Just that one will take you a lot longer to get ready I guess?
Rgds,
Mark

Hi Pete
3 kilos.
Are you certain there was no fuel in that A10 for ground runs etc...i'm sure your scales are correct. When I weighed Ali's there was no nose weight and everything is as far forward as possible including turbines, it would be possible to add significant weight with layout of equipment and associated ballast.
Cheers, Alex
