Default RE: Official Tamiya TT-01 Thread

G-Ped, I couldn't really get any straight answers out of the Tamiya representative I talked to other than the pitch being metric 48, but I have yet to come across any pinions above 25T that are metric 48. They simply do not exist, unless someone can prove me wrong in which case I will be very happy! So, since I can't find a suitable 29T pinion, I think the 52T spur gear is out of the question. I did, however, get my 55T spur gear and 25T pinion today and I am quite pleased with the results! I've got a GPS on order and hope to use that to measure the exact speed, but I'm thinking it's around 50 MPH. If I can ever find a reasonably priced brushless ESC I'm going to up the voltage to 22V and shoot for 70+ MPH (not km/h). But that's all in due time. Have any of you guys ever run your TT-01 with just rear wheel drive? Are there any advantages to 2WD over 4WD?

I have a 35t pinion in 48p. So chances are that there will be something closer to 30t in 48p.

2WD is horrible to drive on-road... Don't do it.

I'm looking for more of an answer than "don't do it". What are the pros and cons here? I'm asking because I forgot to put the drive shaft back in when I switched the spur gear and pinion and I really didn't notice a huge handling difference. It doesn't handle as well as before, but I'm thinking the top end speed will probably be higher with 2WD, right? My TT-01 with the tires I have handles horribly already so I'm just going for speed.

BIGmik, I just got to thinking if 2WD isn't good for on-road driving, then what is it good for? It certainly isn't good for off-road driving so the only application I can see it being useful for is on-road.

I made fire with my TT-01 today! My car just stopped after about a minute and I was messing with the controls for a little while trying to get it to go again. Suddenly, some crazy thick white smoke came billowing out of one of the front wheels, so I pulled the body off and witnessed 12-inch flames engulfing my generic airplane ESC. Let's just say it is no more. The good news is that I'm pretty sure the ESC is the only thing that was ruined. Now, does anyone have a brushless sensorless 100A ESC for me? Pretty please? I'll have to get one designed for a car this time and see what this thing can do.

Don't get a sensorless...

Look into the Novak Super Stock ESC and SS4300 motor.

G-Ped, where did you find your 35T?
Got it from a friend, and I dont have a clue where he got it from.

I'm thinking about locking my rear diff since my car is apart. Should I do it?

No you shouldn't unless you drift.

Most of the time I use it for drifting. More fun that way.

But what if I were to use the car with the locked diff with normal tires? How would that effect handling?

You need the little adjustable parts (the bits you turn to adjust the camber) for it to work, and the little metal pins for the front arms. I know you can get the adjustable upper arms from Tamiya (in the Hop-Up section) and I'm pretty sure it comes with everything you need. When you get the right camber/toe combination your car will handle much better. I set the camber accordingly to the manual, and I thought the handle was awesome, but it wasnt that flash after a while. I set the toe and camber at what I thought it should be and it handle much better, made the standard slicks seem good hehe. I think I need a little less toe out though.

The TT01R also comes with adjustable lower arms (front and rear). They allow you to change the ground clearance and rebound stroke. Not something I have had a play with yet though.

EDIT: Looks like those parts come with everything. My bad.
