Welcome to Club SAITO !
I am presently converting an older FG-20 from gaspoline to methanol fuel (Spark ignition) Hope to post videos of the running conversion later next month. Sr Telemaster has done a ton of well documented experimentation with sparked methanol big block Saito engines.

Should have initiated my CDI gas conversion post, to Sailrs' post headed "Converting to all Gasoline engines". Am a SR fan (in many ways - LOL) and do understand the pluses and minuses of gas vs methanol, and spark vs glow. I also have an early FG20, and hope to run it inverted in a Taube with a cline regulator. Good luck to me - LOL

Hey guys, the VP guy called me back, and he told me the price difference on the 2 different 20% Nitro blends is simply because Castor is cheaper than synthetic (wow, I would like to know what synthetic they are using that raises the price $14 for 4oz of oil per gallon, $84 per 6 gallon case).
so I wish not to buy Castro and I wont pay the extra $14 more per gallon for their YS fuel..
but to add, VP shipping to me in Vt per gallon ($13) is vary much the same per gallon of Red Max,
the thing about Red Max is their price drops for every gallon you buy, so 4 gallons (16 quarts) of 20% is $27 each, and $52 for shipping to me in Vt, no Hazard charge for quarts..
guys, please, please go to Red Max site and find their plane prices, then scroll down the page to their complete list of prices, see in the list the price difference between 12 quarts vs 16 quarts. with looking at 15% Nitro the difference between 12 quarts and 16 quarts is only $2.03,, that is $2.03 for 1 extra gallon of fuel. also, when moving up in 5% Nitro it's only a $6, $7 $8 difference when buying 16 quarts, you can not beat that , cause some brands charge that per gallon

It's a lot of fun mixing your own fuel jim, especially if you like a little castor in there. Was cleaning up in the shed and found a small amount of years old nitro in a small bottle, smelt ok but just to be safe, and not waste it, you can spray it on weeds or pour some down little critter holes and flick the bic, they go out with a bang.
ps dave don't you dare paint the fa182

Mixing your own fuel is a fine part of the hobby. Saves a lot of time waisted trying to figure out why one fuel costs more than another

Free Methanol to anyone mixing their own fuel
I have two 5 gallon containers of pure methanol that I will give to anyone willing to pick it up in the Tampa area.
Swapping in either a 125 or 100 glow carb. Also scrapping the Saito CDI and using an RCexl system. I may later look in to modding the Saito carb, but really don't see much need in most cases.
Looks like the ign modules I have for all 3 of my Saitos are RCXcel ones with a Saito label on them. Think Saito gave up trying their own and just outsources them now? My FG-11 runs great once I got the valves adjusted, first time since break in with at least 2 gallons through it, which is a LOT of run time. With a run time of 1 hour per 12 ounces, that comes out to 21.3 hours.

When running the 90-T yesterday the left cylinder popped and cracked a couple of times blowing fire out of,the left pipe. In checking things over I discovered that somebody didn't get the intake pipe nut all the way tight. I gave that guy what for and told him to not do that again. I felt better afterward. I also had trouble finding a happy needle setting for the left cylinder. I found a Xoar 14 x 6 to run today.

They do on mine, and it is upright. No where near the amount the glows do with 20% oil. Originally I ran this one inverted in a T-Clips, but it has been run for about an hour or more in the LT-40 upright so any oil would have drained out by now. Discovered there are no gaskets for the rockers too. I think that gas oil may be different than glow oil in that is doesn't need to be as heavy to provide the same lubrication properties. The LSN and HSN were so far off on the FG-11 that the side of the plane was slick with oil, normally it would just be a few specs of oily carbon. The upside is the ARO isn't really needed for the gas engines, the oil has anticorrosion built in.
The CH/RCexl ignition has always been a better system. I have often replaced the Saito CDI and every time wound up with a worthwhile improvement. The Saito pick up trigger badly needs a soft strain relief where the wires exit the body, they often crack and fail at that point. The RCexl are very easy to repair or replace the wiring, All you need is a soldering iron. Also frees you from buying Saito plugs.
Side comment regard ARO, Gaspoline and Glow fuels:
Gaspoline and petroleum oil as well as most synthetics used with gasoline usually will not mix with and usually displace water. No ARO needed, in most cases.
Glow fuel components like synthetic oil and methanol blend readily with and absorb water. A bit of castor helps as does ARO.
