Welcome to Club SAITO !
Maverick came in a V8 version, called the "Grabber", imagine that, THE GRABBER
Every Ford built with that bargain German steel they bought by the boatload was rusting when it was stamped!
My wife and I were talking about how long it has been since we even saw a Peentoe. The burnomatic tanks sure incinerated a mess of them.

I don't think Ford ever made steel. That is what happens when they use cheap inferior imported steel. Its sad but there are some types of steel the US doesn't make anymore and probably won't ever make again.
I remember one day, my friend and I were sitting in a snack shop we frequented back in the day watching traffic. It was right by an intersection, Fullerton and Pulaski in Chicago. The Vega pulls up to the light, and he revs the engine, and we looked, Vega, with a V8. Cool. Light turns green, he floors it and proceeded to twist the car so much that one rear wheel came off the ground and sat there spinning. He did not have LS in it, but an open diff. We were on the floor we were laughing so hard.
The guy didnt have a clue on how to do it! Chicago is about dead cows, not cars At least he was out trying, that beats bench racing any day.

Ford indeed made a LOT of steel at the Rouge Plant just down river from Detroit.

I owned a 1971 Pinto, I waited until January of 1971 so I could get the 100 hp engine made in Cologne, Germany. In 1977 I bought a 73 Chevy Vega Kamback GT, I installed Koni suspension all around and made my own 2.5" exhaust with a Thrush Turbo Muffler. You could hear it coming. I owned about 4 different Pinto's over the years, I loved them.
Mike I paid your kindness forward helping a guy in Texas with some 82 parts.

We used to race Mazda Rotary's, the V8 guys would leave when we showed up, they couldn't catch us. We had a balanced and ported 13B that could spin 20K if we let it. We would launch at 4K, and yes U-joints did break quite often. Our shift point was 12K. I think we seldom made it to 4th gear. We never went over 130 MPH, the car was too unstable at that speed. Once we had a smartass Idea to leave the exhaust pipe off the thermoreactor, once. When we saw the flames shoot out and nearly touch the rear bumper we never did that again. Man, were we stupid back then, surprised we survived.
The V8 in the video turned a low 9 at 140+
Dont recall any rotary engined cars sending this Vega home

They are more tuned toward Rally than drag strip, but they can be pretty quick.
Now that is something I can agree with! LOL I need to clear some bench off, building a SIG Liberty Sport, so that I can bring my SSE in and take the 72 off and tear into it. What is that puller that was posted a while back? I need to get me one.
Yes, they do, then I saw the price and went WHOA, Thats what I paid for the 72! LOL Considering I have a couple engines requiring new bearings though, worth the trade off in cost.
mike
my boss is the meanest SOB I have ever run into
( oh I am self employed lol).
I managed to get the 182 ready for test and tune and pink should run great just gonna see how the paint holds up under the heat and alcohol.
Also when was I was a kid a guy built a vary nice Chevy love pickup with a blown small block and a tubed quick change rear end and some hug ass tires.
It was faster then he cared to drive it.

That's the problem with being self employed you can't do anything about the boss! LOL
Fast pickups never made sense to me, the weight distribution would seem to me to be light in the rear and keep you from getting traction.

Well it runs?
the air bleed screws are almost screwed all the way in to get it to kinda transition. I think this thing is new!!
It might take a flight or two to get it idle
