Yep 40$ is dang cheap. That's what they charge vets and emergency first responders. They fly at a long abandoned navy airstrip. 9000' ft runway. but just Tuesdays and Thursday.
I can drag my 27' travel trailer there if I want. That would give me a good potty, kitchen for lunch and most important a bed for a nap between flights
I used to know my way around under a hood. I had a temp gauge (tranny temp) peg out on the bottom, just zero dead. popped the hood to check coolant level. Couldn't even see where to add coolant. Ford F250 super duty diesel.

I just worked up the nerve last week to flash my FrSky Horus X10 to open tx last week. Was really afraid of making a $400+ brick out of it. But went extremely easy.

the 65 works really well in the senior I have one in mine and I like the way it flys. (Oh wait I forgot I put a 80 carb and intake on it) but anyway the 65 is a great fit for the senior.
I was thinking of building another one to try a 56. Should work out great.
But if you find that you don’t want to mess with the rebuild I would be happy to do that for you. “My treat”

Mine used to be $50, but do to members either ill or dying, it was bumped up to $100 for the year, but since end of year, and I only flew once, it is applied to next years dues. I better get some flying in next year.

I agree, a proper running 65 should be plenty. Well over 35 years ago ( it seems anyhow) when I first heard the Sr Kadet was imminent I ordered one at the LHS. My first one was an early release from the first batch. I built three channel, swapped out some woods for lighter, of course tail dragger, aluminum gear and covered with light Econokote. When first flown, it spotted a wimpy Saito 30 open rocker. That was soon replaced with a spanking new Saito 50. By 2017 and several repairs and re-covering operation, that same plane was very well powered by a Saito 62.
Along with that I had a highly modified Sr Kadet with a LT-40 inspired fuselage and a minimal dihedral, barn door aileron wing. First flown with an fx 61 OS mounted upright. That went away after one season and got a used Saito FA-91. Very sweet combo!

I said I was done, and then they came back and said for me because I leave just in side the 50 mile out cycle “like 48 miles” they would let me stay at the 60 dollar dues. So I still belong to the club.

My Kadet is a tail dragger. dihedral reduced by half. Barn door ailerons. I think 2". It's in the a rack mount to the garage ceiling. I built the wing normal and then just added aileron stock to the trailing edge. So it got a Sq area addition. I was overly generous with how much fiber glass I used on the center section thus adding unneeded weight.
Always felt that the 65 gave it plenty of power. But wondered if it would be enough with floats on it.
Captcrunch44 I will certainly keep you in mind. Figure another month or 2 before I approach getting the Kadet Sr back in the air.

Cheapskates and proud of it! It why I have more than one airplane and I am still build after being laidoff a month. I'm still waiting for them to get my unemployment payments straighten out too! I should be back to work before I see the first payment.
I think I'll stick with the checkerboard option Monokote makes.

Speaking of those starters, I have a Hobbico 180 with a Miller 3.5 to 1 reduction, it came with 4.0 to 1 reduction but was so slow that the Maloney mags would not spark. I don't have any more big gas engines. The 180 would not turn my High Compression 150 even with a 300 amp garden tractor battery.
I got a message back from Becky at Sig saying my pictures were passed on to a "tech", no word from him yet. The plane I was all excited about is in limbo.

A big part of torque loss is from the longer leads between the starter and the battery. Also lead acid batteries have higher internal resistance than the Lithium. The Hobbico should be close in power to the Sullivan. I have the Saito HC 150 on my Rascal 110 right now and the larger Sullivan spins it easily in direct drive, without reduction. If you like , I can ship it to you to try out! The 180 I have actually starts real well with a thick leather glove (insurance) and a back flip. More often than not, first flip from a proper prime.
I know you would have no problem making the conversion, but if you have any questions, The flat pack adapter shown earlier is probably the best way to go. I can help out if you have questions.. Might be easier if I just passed along my phone number .

They have a few others too. There was a 24 volt version of the "Hi-Tork". Same size case but white paint and blue plastic parts. There is the big, two handle "Megatron" as well.

Getting back to engines I notice something the other day. I like to cruise the engine posts just to see what is out there. A pair of ads caught my eye and hand me wondering. The same guy in the classifieds was selling two Saito twins, a 270 and a 182 dual plug. The 182 had a picture in the ad and look pretty good. I notice the 270 had no picture which I thought strange and was just $25 more. This morning I noticed he dropped the price on both and the price is the same $425. Both are described as being in excellent condition but I can't help being suspicious. Being broke I don't have to be worried about getting too tempted but it still makes me wonder.

Oh I'm happy with just looking. I generally keep my builds to scale aircraft with a 84" WS or smaller with an occasional project going up to around 94" WS. I know my limitations on transporting and storing and I don't plan on having anything big enough to need a twin. Keeps the cost down.

Yesterday I found a Dewalt battery kit, came with 2 2.0Ah packs, a charger and the adapter, on sale for $109. I didn't buy it, I think I can go to Amazon and get it all for less. I also thing a 3 or 4 Ah would be better than 2 2.0 out at the field. In the mean time though, I will look at what I already have instead of buying more parts.

OK, occasionally when we go through an engine we stumble across an anomaly like a rod with the dot on the wrong side. This is a very good rod with a very precise fit on the crank pin and wrist pin. It's bushed too. Early Saito 50. I had a special fuzzy picture for Pete but I don't want him to throw his glasses at the wall.

Also, you may want to try the standard battery before opting for the high capacity version. You can always carry a spare as they are so easy to change.
