thanx dante those are some awsome closeup pics. The first one is what I had in mind. I like those alum wheels. I was trying to find if someone make those wheels in internal beedlock style. I come from the scale crawling and have gottn used to beadlock wheels.I hate glueing tires.

Never seen beadlock rims in buggy size - I doubt they exist, especially for a vintage 2WD. But would be cool anyway!

what size are the buggy wheels. i have 1.55",1.9" and 2.2" beadlock wheels. RC4WD herein USA makes a bunch of beadlock wheels. Infact they have a new internal beadlock wheel for the sand scorcher2010.

Isn't the wheels/rims found on Grasshopper, Super Champ & Sand Scorcher beadlock style? It's a Three (3) piece wheel design made to "sandwich" the tire you mount on them. I never used CA glue to secure my tires while using those wheels.

So the rig i bought of ebay arrived. I wasnt too happy with the state it was in. Anyway got it dismanteled and removed most of the dirt. Will have to clean it throughly once again. The chassis and all the parts are painted in red.And 50% of the paint is faded. How do I remove this paint without causing much damage to the plastic.
Also were can I get repro decals for wild one.

Ok this is kooool. I hapended to find my wifes nail polish remover and decided to try it on the chassis to remove the paint. And it worked like a charm. just removed some on the indside and some on the outside. You can see the before and after pic. I dint go ahead with the entoire chassis. Thought I should find out more if it is safe to use the nail polish paint remover on the old tamiya plastic. Dont want to make it weak.So anyone know if it is safe?I should probably start a different thread.

I'd stop using that mail polish remover if I were you. The plastic on these vintage buggies are made of styrene if I'm not mistaken. Nail polish remover is acetone. Actone melts styrene!

You can try using old brake fliud to remove the old paint which is usually hobby grade enamel. You have to soak the parts in a glass or plastic bowl for about 1 hour to soften the paint. I've used that method effectively on some of the Monster beetles I've restored.

You can get WO decals form here,http://pandagfx.com/index.php?main_p...roducts_id=125
I've heard they are pretty good quality.

People have also put a Frog gear box upside down into their WO with great success, and it fits all existing fixing holes, You will also need the drive sharfts and out drives.

The W. O and F.A.V. two piece plastic trannies were the predecessors of the three piece version found on M.B., Brat, Frog, and B.F. r/c vehicles.
They also share the same "gear separation" problem when you start loading them with high speed/hi torque motors. The bevel gears tend to push outwards under load even with adequate lubrication and the proper shims installed. They can handle up to mild brushed motors and the newer brushless systems but these older designs do have their limitations.

I have stripped the guckky hand paint off all the chassis parts.Have them primered in Tamiya primer. Will post some pics soon. I will not be driving this thing hard at all. I might put in a sport tuned motr for some punch but that is it. So if the drive line dosent hold up i will think about upgrading to frog parts for sure.
BTW i scored another mint condition wild one on the bay.http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT
Should be here next week.

Look for these sellers at "fleabay" by the name -jsourbeck and mrlexan . They are the go to guys when it comes to vintage restoration. As for the replacement Wild One shocks. You can use the original Frog or the re-release version of it. Good luck with the hunt.

Here's a couple of pictures from our vintage race.

Is tha FAV roll cage the same as the Wild One? Mines split and if it's the same i can paint it or chrome it.

those are some awsome looking wild ones there at th race. THe FAVand Wild one chassis is same with a few differences. The FAV chassis does not have some of the body mounts for mounting the body and the interior. But that should be fixable with some ingenuity. But I have both the chassis and I think the FAV chassis is thinner and will crack if wheeled hard compared to a wild one chassis.

Any body know any good modern 12mm hex mounting wheel and tire combo for the wild one. I have ordered a set of 12 mm hex adapters rapshaperc makes for the wild one.

Oi! You blokes really know how to have a good time.

Great pics mate! [sm=thumbup.gif]

The FAV roll cage is slightly different from the WO in the roof area. If the damage is not in this area you can use the FAV rollcage.

i recently tried using a mamba4700 setup with some tonedown throttle settings and the wild one was fine.I did 5 battery packs and opened the the tranny for inspection and found no issues.WIth propper shimming and assembly the tranny is capable of handling insane powers. And also the brushless motors are so much more efficient at using the battery pack. So i want to know if anybody is aware of any milder brushless setups i an use on the wild one.

WOW LB, thats a really nice wild one.

the wild one was my first proper rc car, so many memories.
the gearbox will not like a sport tuned, stick with the silver can unless you shim it proper.

you can find nice alloy wheels for it on ebizzle, searh for fox wheels, not cheap, not that it matters.

Thanks!! I sold it awhile ago, though... looks too nice to run.. so I took it apart and get to know it a little bit.. and re-built it up correctly and added in ballbearings.. and sold it to a collector.. !!

I enjoyed the experience, though.. !! [sm=thumbs_up.gif]
