Dont forget to strengthen the fin spar, if yours from was from the same rubbish ply supplied from AirWorld.
If so you need to reinforce this spar with, , ideally, carbon fibre plate and cloth.
Otherwise you may lose the fin, and the jet. Mine failed , ( although the fin stayed on) Mick Burrels failed and he lost the jet.

Yea - I was well briefed on that before I started building. I used the original former but carbon plated it, which was also doubled up on the failure point and used carbon tape up the sides of the fuselage / fin which the former bonds on top of. The original former was pretty weedy.

What is correct CG?
Hello all.
I cant find info on correct CG for the 1:4,5 Hawk, it is mention in here that it should be 120mm in front of wingtube. That cant be correct that puts the CG way to forward I think.

Andy is finally getting to fly the Hawk again, it’s now got a JetCat P-160RXi-B powering it. Yesterdays flight in less than ideal conditions gave the impression it could be nose heavy. More testing when the weather corporates

I lost one of my Hawks ( I had two) three weeks ago, total loss.14 years old 149 flights. This model had a very close checkout after the winter layup. It was also thoroughly checked three days before the crash, including carefully checking currents to the stab. servos, all low, equal and normal.
On the DI before the flight total system currents ( displayed on my tx as in last RCJI P67) were normal. Pitch control was lost followed by shallow dive and impact. Logs show all currents and RF were normal until moment stab. control lost, currents shot up to 4 amps on both Competition SR2 outputs. Obviously jammed stab. servos.
I have been ultra careful with stab. servo ( both JR 8931 which I use extensively ) set up as both servos are hard connected ( as in the CARF and Airworld Hawks). to the stab.
Discussing this with other fliers , one recommended a rocker bar installation, in which both servos both work together but never against each other and which will allow some stab. control even if one servo fails locked.
There is room in the rear of the AW Hawk and I am testing the system now.
If anyone interested I will post results.

First tests of the first set up are very encouraging. Very low current drains throughout the travel.
The slot in the bar is a few thou. too wide, so a new one will reduce slop to absolute minimum.
Another advance will be to use two Powerbox I servos which have torque and current telemetry which can be shown on the Tx screen.
I have heard of a couple of Hawks being lost due lost stab. control. This may help minimise the risk.

Thank you , good tip but free movement was still producing too much slop, potential flutter, I have revised the method to a rocking arm using ball links at all four pivot points.
Stab slop now less than 1mm, so I think this is a better solution. Current draws still very low at all angles.

Of course, if a servo fails one never knows exactly where and how, but the most likely is around neutral and a burnt out servo locks, so you get about half travel in that scenario.
That said, I am toying with the idea of a flight mode which gives extra stab. servo travel which could be selected in an emergency.
……. and for anyone interested, my SkyGate Hawk, AMT Olympus, is for sale, just too big to fit in my car !
