Dave can you post a pic of the fa82 ring, what brand is it?

Crunchy does that dornier float plane run gas two strokes, it sure sounds like 20 of your best mates have rolled up at your house to mow the lawn with weed wackers but i admire that guys scale building effort and he flew it well too. ps how many here like me who cannot understand spending heaps of money and hours on a scale classic only to fit a weed wacker to it?

Good evening Pete and good morning to me, I 'll take a picture of the black ring, it was in a a box of parts w8ye passed along to me when I bought some of his extra engines a few years ago. It also had a bare crankcase, black back plate and a cam or two. I removed about 3/32" from the back edge of a cam box so it would fit the 82-and slowly have been buying parts for it over the past few months. The 82 cam support shaft is shorter than others so I got one of the new ones with the tiny O-ring on it.

Here is the promised picture of the black 82 ring, also I got the 4" Kavan wheels on the Rascal 110 main gear, I had to use different axles.

Judging by this pictures on Macgregor's site it is a factory replacement ring for the 82 and the 100.

My 82b replacement ring was the same color.

Oring for the cam pin? How is it used?

A couple of things I noticed in your pic: The opening at the big end of the rod appears to have a dent at the edge of the bore. I'd make sure that the ID of the bore hasn't been reduced as a result. The rod shank has a casting anomaly just above the big end bore? If it has a sharp edge it could cause a stress riser to form. The piston has some sort of shiny weirdness at the bottom of the ring land near the ring gap. Could just be debris or a reflection.

It simply slides into the cam housing.

Me! The B-25 and P-61 builds are 4 stroke Must Haves. No way would I want it to sound like a snarling gopher on crack with a pair of 2 strokes on them.

Not one two stroke anything goes on planes here. In fact,I own a total of three two stroke engines, they are classic 100cc and 125cc McCulloch chainsaws from the 1960s when they were real finely built work horses.

I often leave the field when some lame brain shows up with a two stroke crapper

I guess I'm lame in the brain then, not by choice necessarily, my lame wallet encourages it. Just not feeling the need to dig deeper and convert all my planes to 4 stroke yet. Only two more to go but I need a ys115ws and a Saito 30S to be fully converted in the 4S glow arena.

My Kwik Fli lll with a 55AX/Tower Hobbies Tuned Muffler combo is particularly obnoxious. Works great for emptying the parking lot.

Not just emptying parking lots. In our area they have directly closed two fields. Heavily contributed to the loss of several others.

you sure wouldn’t like me at the field. I have two big gas planes one is a 120cc the other is a 50cc.
And no there not 3D planes one is a 168” Rascel and the other is a double señorita. I have another plane that looks like a P-51 but has the Lear wing and tail on it called a vendetta it has a 120cc two stroke and tuned pipes I am waiting to fly that one, it scares the crap out of me just sitting there

Crunch and Lonnie

You can tell Pete about it I couldn't care less

Some of your planes would not be allowed at our field.

Seams to be the trend at fields lately if isn’t electric your out.
Good for us we can get Saito’s cheaper that way.
So far we are still able to fly what ever we want. But we own the field in the middle of a sandy corn field.

We have sound restrictions out of respect of the people who are in the area. Two and four strokes with decent exhaust systems are very welcome.
Thanks to the activities is a couple of large planes with large engines we placed a size limit on engines.

I have always been able to fly everything I cared to fly. But I never wanted to fly anything obnoxiously loud or of annoying tone. I also have zero interest in electrics.

We did a survey at another club many years ago at another club. This was among people who lived near our field. Almost universal was the dislike of two strokes The four strokes usually got a "That doesn't bother me" response. Interesting was the fact that even at a higher decibel level, the four strokes were in general less annoying.

If you read a bit more carefully, you may realize I said some "idiots" show up with two strokes.
Not everyone with a two stroke is an idiot.

Just got back from mailing out another Saito parts package. The Post Office was backed up like a Welfare Office . What a waste of a good Saturday afternoon . Need to cut back on that nonsense.

We need to cut back on the rain. Another weekend lost to rain. Fields are soggy, my basement floor is seeping, have to vacuum it every hour or so to keep it from getting in my shop. And, it's raining again. I just had one strip of grass left in the back and it poured. Not a drip drip hey it's about to rain, no a pour. I got soaked before I could get the tractor in the barn. Even worse, septic field is flooded again. It had just finally dried up and was draining great, now its got standing water again.

How the hell am I supposed to get my Saitos running good with all this rain. I have three I want to get running right, haven't been able to.

I wish you could divvy up the rain, our grass is dying, dust flies no matter you do. I haven't needed to mow for a month.

Rain here is just about normal, about two inches over. Sitting at 28 inches total to date. Normal is 26 or so.

Got me thinking though. A back door in the barn and we could do some rainy day engine running.

I just picked up an FA-60T in need of a new left cylinder. Cylinder is on the way. Luckily it was the left; they are available and cheap. The right are not easy to find.

I think its a weather conspiracy. I think you should sacrifice the local weatherman to appease the weather gods. It probably won't help but you'll feel better afterwards. Won't do the weatherman any good but what the heck he probably wasn't that great a weatherman anyway.

Boy and I have two 300 twins to run now. But I have to many projects to finish like a 50,120,100,and a unmentionable.
But I put those aside to build a new transmitter case.

Gary yes I love the sound of my four strokes over the two strokes any day. What gets me is those guys doing 3D over the runway all day barking there big gassers. My 120 and 55cc engine’s have mufflers on them and there not to nope noxious The race plane with 102cc and pipes though might just piss some people off. Yeah

Maybe that's where Dave's 82 piston came from.

Our local field is at a waste water management dump site. It's not unusual to see a tanker truck shoot'n the poop out there. Yuck!

We are very lucky and worked hard in order to have a beautiful field right now. We have had them in the past as well and lost them over night. Noise was always the deal breaker in the past.

The engine size limit situation had nothing to do with noise. It was the size of the plane and the flying style that alarmed one neighbor. He had the will as well as the power to close the field.

Rather than limit the size of the plane or some complicated rule making, we just limited engine size.
Not a single complaint since then.

One of the local club here did the same thing. They limit the engine size and the complaints went away.

A neighboring club had three or four fields in the last 20 years each one the town grew in on them. One was even on a closed dump and would you believe they got kicked out of there.
I would hate to have a house on that property
