A fine looking granddaughter Jim! I hope you are seeing to her aviation education. She looks like a future R/C pilot to me! My youngest grandson had a Baptism this pass weekend so we got to spend time with him and a grandson from Kansas. Both are interested in Grandpa's airplanes.

I did some digging, if you have the front timed correctly, from TDC on the compression/combustion stroke, turn the engine 360 degrees and time the rear exactly the same. A way to check on your work is to place the front at TDC on the end of the exhaust stroke, both front valves should be open a little, now rock the crank back and forth a few degrees and the valves should alternately open and close. Now turn it 360 and the rear should do the same. I hope that doesn't confuse more than help.
Crunch, That 300 is very happy on glow. May tend to run a bit hot on gas, One of Saitos best efforts. And you have 2 of them!
A 300 on a biplane is a fine match indeed.
Good folks can handle a bit of "power".
The weak tend to abuse .
Or have friends who will do it for them

Capt there's a lot of people nowadays going electric, like decaf coffee, so the big methanol and nitro guzzling glow fourstrokes have fell out of fashion with the flat white latte sipping set. As gary mentions they don't lack for grunt.
ps they can easily drag pine sawhorses across the shed floor as well, it was exciting

Good info Dave. If he gets the front and rear cams reversed it should show up using the tdc exhaust stroke valve movement test.
That slash on the pictured cam appears to be aimed at a top land, pretty sure that wouldn't mesh with the crank gear.

Wow Gary know how you feel did even mention motorcycle’s either. Lol
yeah hope to at least bench run the 300’s before it gets too cold.
I’m getting excited about the power!!

Here is a pic of the 120 fathead cylinder I mentioned.
Lonnie , was that you looking for a Royal tachometer? I have quite a few tacos laying around from Ace to Fromeco to Royal. The 1976 Heathkit Tach is about the only one I won't let get away The Royal in the pic is rough but very functional. Yours if you want it.

Jesse it is the later version that uses the same jug as the 120S but has a slightly longer sleeve in it since they increased the stroke to get from 240 to the 270 displacement. I have a 120 cylinder but not sure whether the piston would want to wobble at the bottom of the stroke without the additional 7-8mm of length of sleeve. This cylinder has a broken valve guide in it, otherwise is usable. On the 270 cylinders they did not use the brass valve guide like they did on the single cylinder jug.Someone with your machining skills could probably make this one work. I can not see any difference in the right or left hand cylinder, everything measures the same.

Problem Solved ... Great Run this PM

Front cylinder timed with the Screwdriver through the cam lifting hole into the oil hole in the Cam @ TDC. Rear Cam with the slash mark at 6 o/c (downwards) after a 360” rotation. SOLVED. All that lovely suck, squeeze, bang, blow of a great sounding twin up and running again. Thanks for your help, it set me thinking and got the result. Cheers. John.
I was going to mention that the factory instructions for the 300 twin are also a bit off.Dave G assembled his according to the manual. It ran on one cylinder.
A quick check with the trusty degree wheel cleared up the matter .
I wrote an update over-at RCG a few years ago.

Good job, it's one of those things that's harder to explain than to do. I confess that I didn't know the pistons rose and fell together until I saw the crank picture.
Dave, thanks for the care package. I'll definitely put some of those parts to use immediately.
Gary, thanks for the offer on the tacho. I ended up buying one of those $20 GT Power tachs. Seems to be working flawless.
John, congrats on getting the cams in right. What a perfect warbird engine!

Bruce, that top flite 60 corsair is recommended for an os 95FS, with an fa300 fitted i'd just hover the corsair at idle without worrying about it being a bit nose heavy.
