Just bought a TF 60 sized P-51 arf with an fa100. The arf is brand new, never flown with new Hitech servos and new JR 8000 rx. The engine is high run time. Just tore it down and put it in the antifreeze bath. The compression is outstanding but the cam and tappets are ruined, bearings are bad too but I have everything here to make it happy again. Hope to fire it up tomorrow.
Anyone have a prop recommendation for an fa100 on an 8.6 lb. P-51?

for my Son's Midget Mustang with the FA100 I am going to go 4 blade to help bleed off a little top speed, and to add to the "that looks cool" effect

Even tho running high nitro content in our saito's comes with diminishing rpm increases per dollar as you up the nitro 10% each run, and shorter flight times for the same size fuel tank, it's a lot of fun and the saito singles really bark on it, nice lumpy lower rpm range they like to hiccup and cough a bit maybe throw a prop or two, but they are animals when they run like that. I get free nitro from the motorcycle drag racers i paint parts for so all good.
Reminds me of how many times i used to spend hours doing gardening/weeding round the house, how many times have you sprayed weeds and days later they still look healthy, in fact they may even be thriving to your feeble brain after all that hard work and sweat. Like most people this day and age i've come to like instant results and nitro gives me that, spray a tiny bit on the weeds and they drop like mike tysons opponents, smells alright too.

LOL had a scammer call, they call every week a few times. they want a C-card number. well I gave him a made up card number. well he could not find the info for that number and he asked for my street address, well, I live at>>>> "1313 Mocking Bird Lane, Mocking Bird Heights Cal."
I hear him typing, he comes back and says "the Monsters house ?"
me>> "yee-up, my mom and dad rented out our house for that TV show, I live there now with my wife and 8 kids"
I told him I work for the police and he ended the call

ps jim, you got me i love burning nitro in quantities that make your eyes water plus a little bit of castrolR for fragrance, being sensitive and all

pps to me two/three or fourblade props all look the same once the saito is fired up, i prefer two bladers for their bigger dia and flying performance.

Was up at 2:30 this morning for whatever reason, took the 100 out of the crock, scrubbed everything clean and reassembled with a good used cam and new tappets. The intake valve is leaking so after breakfast I get to tear it down again, yaaaay!
I'll have to check for a prop in my stock to test run the 100. I have 14x6 and 15x6, not sure what else.

Hmmmm, for the fa100 on a 60 size p51 I was thinking more like:
13x7 3b or 14x7 2b at 9600-9700
13x8 3b or 14x8 2b at 9200-9300
13x7 3b or 14x7 2b at 9600-9700
13x8 3b or 14x8 2b at 9200-9300
ifvthe weather breaks I will take the hog out with the 15-7 3B on it and see what it does for sure.
the hog is a 7 pound plane. The 100 with the 15-9. Would go straight up with a hell of a torque roll it was amazing
that 100 is quite the monster

I just dug out a 100 from crockpot too and I think it’s going to be for parts the cylinder and piston are scored and the carb is a mess the throttle barrel was rusted in place not gummed I’m place.

I will have to check to see what I ran on the 100 when I had it in the Mustang. Good running engine too. I used an APC Scimitar on the Stang, and I think it was a 15 x something, but no where near the house to go look. I have a 125 on it now, and when I can get the engine running, it flies it very nicely, with a great Doppler effect on low high speed passes. Just remember on that ARF to set the elevator to low rate when flying or it will snap roll on you. Took me a while to figure out why it kept doing that, and the last time it did, it wound up looping into a soybean field. I have since repaired it and it flies perfectly well at low rate. I only use high rate on the ground and once it leaves I flip to low at the same time as I retract the gear.

How does the antifreeze trick work for you?
And what solvent or soap do you use to clean antifreeze off once it comes out of the tank. I'm too cheap to buy carb dip. Typically hose em down with brake clean. Accomplishes of work but doesn't do much for Aesthetics

If it's flying to your satisfaction being little overloaded like that and not overheating you're probably ok. Watch out though, if you switch from your high nitro back to 10-15% nitro the engine will be badly overloaded and will probably get very hot. The more nitro you run the cooler the engine will run with a given prop.
That said, your hog may not be reaching pitch speed with an fa100 and 15x9 prop so if you want slightly more thrust you could try a 15x8 or 15x7. That will bring your rpm up which will increase thrust all without sacrificing much top speed, if any. Depends on how draggy the hog is.
Increasing rpm and prop dia gives more thrust. Increasing rpm and prop pitch gives more speed. You can't have your cake and eat it too though. Prop diameter and prop pitch are inversely proportional so if you increase prop diameter you must decrease prop pitch to maintain a given rpm. Same when increasing prop pitch, you must decrease prop diameter.
Sounds simple but when you factor in airframe weight and drag and the engine hp curve things get more complicated; too complicated so you have to fly different props to find your magic.

Ok, the 100 is running like a champ. Man that thing will yank a Vess 15x6 from idle to peak lightening fast!
Saito fa100
Vess 15x6
15% nitro /18% oil
Temp 42°f
Humidity 75%
Idle 1900
Peak 9300
Richened 9050

Are you talking 2 or 3 blade. I was running a 15-7 2B and was ripping the prop. Plus I need ground clearance so I went to the 15 -9 3B “no I didn’t gain advice ground clearance” but I was thinking I could kill some power and not lose any ground Clarence but that proved to be too much of a drag on the engine. The 100 really didn’t seem to care so I dropped to a 15-7 3 blade thinking I could get some RPMS back.
