Unfortunately health issues has been a major factor in ending a lot of R/C pilot and Building careers. It has made Swap Meets very depressing the last few years.
I intend to experiment with a Saito gasser a bit. I have a recently acquired fg21, just waiting on a cdi to arrive. If it runs like I think it will I may put it in the 60 size TF P51. Zoom zoom! all day for nickels.
When reverting back to the glow carb, yes. The first thing I'm going to do is to install the new cdi on the 100 in the P51. If the increase in power is sufficient then I'll play with the fg21 on the bench, then on another airframe later.
It should, but I have not tried. In the case of the FG-20, and likely the FG-21 as well, you should use the gaspoline carb mounting hardware. The gaspoline carb screws are smaller diameter and use flanged bushings for heat insulation. An alternative would be re-tapping the carb screws and using a shim.
Thanks Gary, that's something to keep in mind if it turns out I don't like the behavior of the fg21 on gaspo. I do like how my larger 2 stroke gassers run, have not tried a 4 stroke gasser yet. I am aware of the reduced power to weight ratios regarding gaspo vs metho but I feel the fg21 would work well (well overpowered) on my 60 P51. The bottom line for me will be whether or not the fg21 will hold a tune, a non issue with zama or walbro cube carbs used on 2 stroke gassers but historically an issue with some Saito gassers eg the early carb version of the fg17.
