Saito's New Engine: FG-90R3

It looks this sensor is only for electric motors. Limit temp is only 125 celsius. Anyway sensor mounting point should be on the back of top cylinder, between its ribs, in vicinity of exhaust.

I made a mistake, The sensor is SBS-01T and has a max. temperture of 200° Celcius.
I moiunted it on the back side of the cylinder between the ribs and fixed it with high temperature silicon

It depends on what you want to hear in an exhaust tone. The flex tube exhaust sound has a throaty tone. The Keleo exhaust ring has a throatier tone combined with a slight growl. Both exhaust systems work great, it just boils down to what the owner wants to hear on a full throttle flyby.

thank you. Can smoke be set up on the Keleo ring? How about the stock flex tube?

The Keleo exhaust ring has a nipple that can be used for a smoke system to be connected as can be seen in the attached photo. With the flex tube exhaust you would have to engineer your own custom made smoke system hookup.

airborn900, the attached video shows two TF FW-190s with an FG84R3 and a FG90R3 installed. The FW-190 with the red rudder has the Keleo exhaust ring installed on the FG84R3. The other FW-190 with the yellow rudder has the stock flex tube exhaust installed on the FG90R3. If you listen closely you will be able to tell the difference between the two exhaust notes/sounds.

I think he was using the prop size suggested in the engine manual, rpm on ground was 5200 or 5500. I did not look at the tach. Oil was 15 to 1, failure was one of the slave rods galled the master rod steel pin. What was really striking was that it broke the end off the crank shaft crank pin. You can see that about half of it is missing, I have never seen this type of failure before. The engine was blueprinted, Saw similar damage to a g60 that was over revved by one of our members four years ago.

oil was drained before taking picture, but I tend to think 15 to 1 with no bushings or bearings is too high, 10 would be better, but messy. I went back and looked at crank to make sure the crank pin end was gone, looks like half the pin is gone. I could not find any pieces of it in the engine so I am stumped as to what happened to it.

Hi All,
As suggested on here I have baffled my Waco and so far its dropped the top cyl as well as the bottom cyl temps dramatically, it even runs cooler than if i flew with the cowl off.
Saito really need to state in the manual that the motor should be baffled.

I agree . For what we pay for these things they should also include a diagram of at minimum the basic baffling layout .

Adrian at CH ignition sells the baffling so it is available at your expense. At 1500.00 an engine Saito could provide a 5 cent paper template , but I guess the liability would be just too much .
