Newly acquired Sig 4 Star 60 kit plane. It came with a Magnum fs91 but well, we can't have that now can we? It's now sport'n my newly rebuilt fa100 w/ apc 14x8. Coverite covering, Hitec HS635 2bb servos, AR5000 rx, 6v nimh battery and never flown for $75, couldn't pass it up!
Weedeater line throttle cable replaces golden rod cable. Works nicely and no fraying!
4 Star 60 kit with clipped wings (64-1/2" WS).

oops, I had that OS 61fx with an APC 12x6 in mine, it was an ARF so it had the 71" span, that 14x8 should be turning around 9000. it will really go

there is something about the 4 start's I like,
I plan to put my Saito 100T in it, I have got to get to work on it, I plan to round the tips of the wings
oops, have the 4 Start 64's cowl for it, the 100T's cylinder heads will be sticking out the sides of the cowl

Thanks for the compliments on the 4 star guys, I wish I could take credit for such a beautifully built model. The fa100 should allow for huge consecutive loops, long vertical up lines and endless high alpha knife edges, just what I like in a sport plane

the 100 in my hog is awesome! I need to build a 4*60 to put a 100 in.
that combination should be great. Better then a125 even.
If I can get my 125 to run reliably, it will be fun to fly the Stang's in a formation. Mine is probably going to be heavier so wont have as much speed, but will still look cool. I still have to redo the landing gear on that 4* you sent me, haven't had the time to figure out replacements yet. I don't remember what engine I have in it either.

Have to remove my Sirius F-300 five cylinder I have been test running from the stand first. Its ready to mount on Gary's beautiful Stearman he sent home with me a few weeks ago.

If there ever was a way to end up with a bunch of unused props hanging on your wall it's by trying to eek out more speed from a go fast plane. Thrust to overcome drag vs. Pitch to go faster is a delicate balance oftentimes amounting to cutting down prop diameters as little as 1/4" in diameter for hard core racers. I'll never go there but I do have over a dozen very high pitch props that I'll likely never use again...lol
To go really fast with a warbird you'll have to prop your saito well beyond 10k on the ground in most cases.

I just put 55 minutes on the new 100 GK, Iran out most of a 14 oz tank then refilled. I deviated from my norm by installing a CH Ignition system first. I set it up a 30 btdc. At about the 53 minute mark I went for max rpm, I had done a few shots to full throttle but the mixture was not peaked. As it approached 9,250 rpm the rpm suddenly dropped to about 5,300, no amount of mixture changing would improve it. So I assumed that the timing ring had slipped. On checking it out the grub screws in the ring were still tight, on removing the ring there were no skid marks indicating they had slipped. So the conclusion is that the prop slipped, it probably won't ever do that again. The prop is a 14 x 7 three blade.

I used about 3/4 oz. per minute breaking in my fa100 at the 4000 and 5000 rpm settings. How is it that you use so little fuel during break in Dave? Are you sure you're running your engines rich enough during break in?

I'm sure, when I first started it, it missed and sputtered quite a bit, I only let it do that for the first ten minutes per the instructions, then lean to smooth but still rich running. No sense lubricating the weeds trying to break in a cold engine. My preference is to keep near the optimum temperature for clearances sake. I haven't ruined one yet. Honest.
Maybe that's the difference, I run them as rich as I can for the first 20 min. At 4000 rpm with the ignitor on, at 5000 without the ignitor and almost flooding out. That first 20 minutes is just to make sure the intial high wear debris is washed out through the vent and to keep cylinder temps down. There are no harmful clearance issues during that time (it's not a two stroke). During the 6000 and 7000 10 min runs is when I lean for higher cylinder temps finalizing with another 10 min run to set needles close enough to fly but still on the rich side of course.
