Welcome to Club SAITO !
I actually have the box and manual for the YS, but no mention of the regulator in it. Going to have to wing it. Besides, it's covered by a cowl, why would I want to hide a Saito in a cowl? It's too bad I have to hide the FG30's in cowls on the B-25.
Acdii, iirc the factory position for the ys regulators is with the adjuster screw flush with the regulator housing. I've never owned a ys or any regulated model engine for that matter. Flush with the housing is just something I remember reading about ys.
I am surprised that Dave or Gary hasn't sent you a PM to help you with that.

Yeah, I've heard that before. Then again I've heard they run for years on end with no needle changes as long as you don't change the fuel or prop. Seems to me a fellow has to know a good deal about the theory of operation in order to make them run great. Saitos are simple.
Well, it runs, idles at 1800 peak 10533. I set the regulator flush, needed to turn it in just an 1/8th turn which increased RPMs a bit, then had to richen the LSN a bit, and lean the HSN and getting decent transition. Definitely NOT like a Saito! You can't snap the throttle and expect full power right away, which I think is normal for the YS. Running on Wildcat 15%. Really smokey though, but that could be due to it being 60* outside too. Cleaning the regulator did the trick. Now one last question, how much should a square tank bulge? Normal? Are valve clearances the same as the OS and Saito?
Tomorrow it goes back in the Liberty Sport and will add a remote glow to it so I wont need to reach under to disconnect it, then will clamp the FA100 in the stand and give it a run in. Liking this PSP stand.

Saito 125 has a flat hp curve!
I'm not giving precise rpm numbers because it was just too humid yesterday for the 125 to produce rated power but I did peak the engine on 15% nitro using all 6 of the aforementioned apc props.
I was amazed to see the engine produce almost identical hp numbers (mean +/- 1.5%) at rpms ranging between approx 8000 and 10000 rpm using 14x8 thru 17x6 props.
If nothing else that test showed the125 to be a very versatile engine.
Using an apc 17x6 prop it's fun to listen to the 125 poyt, poyt, poyt along at 1500 rpm.

I love WW1 planes
I have a Taube. That I fly. It’s fun to hear the announcer go (here’s a nice golden era world war one plane look how gentle it flies) and then I’ll pull a loop and a split “S” I am not much for scale.
The announcer doesn’t say much after that, oh well.

I have had several friends who owned YS engines and they all said the same thing, they were finicky to get adjusted and running but once started the ran like striped ***** apes.

Yes, that is what I found. The regulator must be clean as well, it was gummed up and was letting excess fuel get to the carb and flood the engine. A little fiddlin and that is how mine is running. Starts right up and idles so low it plops. The only thing I am not too crazy is the slow run up from idle to WOT but that might change after it has been flown a bit. At least it ran the entire tank without quitting, or showing signs of quitting except when I got the idle too low, and slamming WOT didn't kill it either, it just took it's sweet time running up, probably too much fuel dumping in. Today I plan to run up the FA-100 that got new bearings. The 72 is back in the SSE and running great once more. Then I will pull the P-51 out and see if I can get the 125 cleaned up and reliable.

guys, I like simple planes with character like the one in my link, but it's too small, if it had a span around 65 inches I would order it.

Did it take much to clean the regulator?

Jim, that looks like the RCM Spacewalker! The Spacewalker was a .60 size with a 91" wingspan. I know Bob over at Laser Design Services cuts a short kit of this one and if its too big a size he might be able to reduce it if you ask him.

Just a complete teardown of the engine to get it off the pushrod tubes. Then lots of soaking in denat alcohol. Then I was able to loosen the screw on top and get the parts out from inside and get them cleaned. I pulled my P-51 out and ran into problems right away. Stupid wing bolts are a royal PITA to get started, then got it all together, fired up the radio and no ailerons. They just sat there and buzzed. Had to take it all apart and found the harness is the problem, so making a new harness for it. Then I can take it to the run up stand and see if I can get the 125 fired up. I like flying the plane, but hate taking off as it tips over extremely easily even though i have the axles ahead of the LE. Think I will add another shim on the back side of the gear and see if it helps any.

The first airplane I ever flew was actually the old yellow and blue Cox PT-19 C/L trainer. As tempting as it is I haven't a clue where I would store it or how I would haul a 100" wingspan airplane. Add in I have too many projects already at least I will if I can find just this one last kit...
