Do you know the trick where you use a business card to hold the cam indexed while reassembling?

Long time carpenter. Fingers and hands don't work as good as before , the card trick is hard with the 3/4" wood dowels attached to my ham fists

guys, where can I buy 3 blade props ??
also, where is it that Dave buys his Sonic props ??

and, what pitch for a 13" 3 blade prop for my FA100 ?? this is for my VQ P-40 with a 62" span. a 14 inch'er is too big, so I need a 13 inch'er ! but I'm not sure on pitch. and what brand !!

Rant, errrr, it looks as if Tower's an Horizon are down sizing errrr. a while back I was ordering stuff from Horizon and there was a number of things they didn't have, and some things I needed were only sold under the brand of the planes they sell. I needed a .90 size engine mount with slotted holes for the engine wall. both Tower's and Horizon don't have them, that goes for glue too. there was more things I could not find !

now the two do not have a good selection of props errrr

oh yes, and according to APC's home page they only have two 3 blade props for an IC sport engine. both are 16" props with a pitch over 10"

The MA 13x8 3B should work well on an fa100. Should peak around 9400.

I installed a cam in a 120-S this AM and used an exacto knife blade, it's right on the money. I had installed used lifters and new ones arrived, so I changed them.

That's a great prop choice above for the 100.

For indexing the cam I use a 4mm metal pin with a taper on one end to engage the alignment hole on the intake lobe. It acts as go-no go gauge as well. If it feels tight in the tappet bore at all I clean the tappet bore.

The best tappet bore cleaning tool I have found is a .177 caliber black nylon bore brush mounted up in a cordless drill.. A dip or two in some laquer thinner, zip zip zip and they're done in 10 seconds.

this is my Cam Tool I made. I was going to make a better one but I ran out of round stock. this one was made from what was left of an old hobby knife LOL

I don't know why the photo is so large here on the site! it's about half that size on my computer.

Inspection reveals a left and right in this assembly. And serviceable parts. Whew!
Minor wear, no sharp teeth, no heavy tracks, no sticky lifters. Happy camper.
Plenty o metal shavings, no obvious damage. Bearings are ok with no missing Peices. Rods and upper end are flush.
Clean livin or rush to panic teardown after errant weirdness.
Oil well....
Could have been a covid-over-the-top JinPing reaction.
i am a target grouper alas.😲

Nice Jim, I think you've all seen mine before, it ain't purty but it's very precise. I use the Exacto blade trick on the big blocks.

I recall you posting that tool before. Easy to make with materials most modellers have on hand.

I'll be making a larger tapered metal rod for my 180 cam indexing. Bearings and valve springs should be here by mid week. Can't wait to hear it roar to life!

HELP!

The badge fell off my 125 while I was doing those test runs, can't find it anywhere.

Its a long shot, but does anyone have a busted 125 case that I can have the badge from?

Almost done with the Chipmunk wing. I had to fill in a few places, and repair the rear fairing where it got ripped, then fill in the lip. Once that dries I can finish sand and start recovering. I plan to cover the bottom, then fit the servos and run the harness through the wing. The original was single servo with bell cranks, so no cutouts for the servo wires. I have to make some parts on the laser to firm up the ribs where the cable ran through as a few of them are a little busted up. Then finish covering the top, then add the red stripes on the wing top, blue trim, and then tear the old and recover the flaps and ailerons. Then re-hinge them, and install new servos and get the radio installed and trimmed. Hopefully in a week it will be ready to maiden again.

A week?! All that work would take me a month. Rare that I get a full 2 hrs. at a time to work on fun stuff.

Only took two days to strip and recover the fuse, and the wing is ARC now, 20 minutes if that to sand, then I can cover. I work pretty quick with iron on, fabric and dope, well that takes much longer. Speaking of which, the one color I need, Lemon Yellow is still on back order. I so want to finish the Liberty Sport, but without the dope, the top wing looks like crap. The rest of the plane looks great.

Jim, the Graupner prop shop has been shut down, it appears that MA is all that's still available, they work very well and are pre-balanced.

YS F91AC is on its way to me. It'll be interesting to clean up and play with. I wonder how it will stack up against my Saito 100.

Let's see, let me list the delays.

1. Honey dos
2. Two and a half months fighting Pneumonia and feeling like fecal material
3. Three weeks and counting fighting Bronchitis still feel like fecal material
4. Waiting on parts order. (Delayed due to having blown the wad on medicines for No. 1 and 2)
I will be starting again when breathing improves. Getting older sucks!
