I'm heading out now to finish the 120-s.
Out with the FA100, in with what?
So, I've been in a quandary over which engine to replace the 100 with in my TF 60 arf P-51. Before tearing my gear out on a deadstick landing the 100 with a 14x8 flew it ok but it wasn't reaching scale speeds, seemed lethargic at around 60 mph.
I'd thought to put my 115 in but too much rework with minimal reward. Considered my 125 because it uses the same mounting pattern as the 100 but too much fuel consumption. Then it hit me, the fg21 has the same mounting pattern as the 100/125 and sips dirt cheap fuel! Ding ding ding.
Found an affordable fg21 on rcg so that's the new direction I'm heading in. With 14x10 prop I should see an approx increase in speed of 12mph and a little more thrust to boot. This P51 is going to provide a LOT of hours of cheap flying fun. Well, that is until it reaches its expiration date.

I'd bet that the 125 would not use a noticeable amount more fuel.
I have two 120's fixed up and ready to test, a 120-s with an N on the right lug and an earlier 120 with no initial n the right lug. Mike gets one back, his choice. Well, embarrassing, I didn't down load the pictures yet.

look how much larger the S's intake manifold diameter is. look's to have a different head too.
do both engines use the same valves ?

A 125 is 25% larger than a 100, makes 25% more hp and uses more fuel. Besides, the 100 costs to much in fuel to be a daily flyer.
No extra batt or switch, I use a single 2S Life batt and a TechAero IBEC. The ignition, wires and heavier plug weigh less than the extra 8 oz of fuel I'd have to carry around using glow ignition. The big payoff is an hour of flying for 13 cents in gas and one battery charge.
I'll weigh all the parts for and let you know the difference in AUW dry. Flying weight (wet) will certainly be less than with glow ignition due to reduced onboard fuel requirements and as a result the cg will change less during flight.
you are going to worry about the 125 drinking 1oz of fuel more than your 100 will in a flight ? I think you would be more worried what Pete would say LOL I mean will he even talk to you again after he speaks his peace. don't forget, the Fg has an extra batt, extra switch, Ignition, and a heaver plug, add the extra wires and mounting hardware, my god man, you will add another pound to the plane. but buy the Fg any ways, it's a Saito

Mine (FG21) seems a little less powerful than a glo 120, but it really sounds great and starts easy!
the weight and extra electronics are not a plus though
For me.
And that little box being made in covid land is not welcome here anymore.
Yep, the FG21 in my SR Telemaster has been a dandy. Didn't want to pull it to install in the P51 so I bought another one.
I just love the combination of 2S LiFe batt, IBEC and a gas engine. I leave my gassers fully fueled and charged and whenever I get the urge to fly it's ready. I'm slowly moving all my 60 size and larger aircraft over to 2S LiFe, even if still on glow ignition. Charge it, leave it for 6 months and it's still fully charged. Gotta love that!

Jim has a good point lonnie....your comments about fa125's have caused me considerable mental anguish which i have only just now managed to subdue after hours of emu export treatment and a hand rolled cigar.
Dave a nicely painted prop. Any automotive paint out of a rattle can is usually single pack paint and mildly resistant to nitro. Any 2pac is better. If you want sharp paint edges where you mask up buy a roll of "fine line" tape in 1/8 1/4 or 1/2 inch widths, as always press the edge down firmly.
ps i like the unpredictable bark you get out of well tuned saito fourstrokes that run high nitro and glow ignition, compared to, an fa125 on cdi that is so meek and reliable it reminds you of your grandmothers pedal powered sewing machine
pps lonnie i'm accusing you of being a closet supporter of the Uncool Petrol Yousers Organization Undermining Respectable Saito (owners) or upyours for short

Pete you’re funny.
the Australian shredder just tried to burn my house down we don’t have any power so I’m running off the generator through a drop cord to a three plug adapter he chewed the end of the adapter just enough to cause short and blow a circuit breaker,of course it burn the carpet before it blew the circuit breaker.
I am now the proud owner a Saito 80 twin and a Saito 220.
Now I have to check the mail box every hour and wonder way there not here yet. So how long should I wait before filling a complaint with eBay because I won theM 24 hours ago and haven’t received them yet.

The ID of the 120-s intake pipe is 10mm, the same as the 150's intake but the 120-s carb venturi is 9.5 mm and 150's is 10 mm.
Mike, I have a 220 carb body and maybe a barrel, and a piston too. Do you have a 130 twin?

I'll send you one.
You have to be very careful when researching parts for the 120's, 150's and 180's. One of the 120's shares valves with the 150, the 150 shares valves with the 180 in all cases. The intake pipes also have some mix and match issues. So, choose one specific engine and then read carefully.
PS, I probably have the mufflers switched on the two 120's.

I've not heard a 125 on cdi but my fg21does sound a little fluffy.

Much more discussion of FG's there than here in Glow: https://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/gas-engines-142/

Yes sir, I didn't know it was possible to discuss something as much as those FG's got discussed over there. Some Spare parts.
Saito intake pipes 10.5 mm all and a 34 mm piston, 150, I think.
Saito carb bodies, 10 mm rear, 11.5 mm front.

I bought a 120 fathead, is there a velocity stack that fits it? Maybe from a 150 or 180?
34mm is the piston diameter of the fa150.
Is this a glow forum? I didn't realize that until just now. I'll keep my gasser comments to myself.
