Let's talk DX18 here!

Hello,
I purchased a new gen-1 DX-18 because I wanted to get into telemetry (altitude and engine temp). I ordered a new transmitter case and a TM1000 telemetry module along with some other stuff from Horizon. They sent me an updated receipt stating that the module was no longer available...I checked on the Spektrum web site and they show it as discontinued also. My question is, are they coming out with an updated or replacement telemetry module and is so, any idea when available?
Thanks,
Ed

This past Saturday I lost a Jet while using the DX-18 Gen 2 which has been updated and green dotted. One of the control surface functions was mixed in via an aux channel. I did not think too much about the transmitter being a potential cause for my loss, because I was flying low and fast and thought the plane either came apart or I screwed up.
The next day I tried to get one of my other previously set up jets to work correctly using the same transmitter. The Aux4 channel was previously set up to operate the swing wing on switch F activation. It was working fine until yesterday. Yesterday none of the aux channels would show any movement on the Txer's monitor nor would any of the functions set to an Aux channel work.
After setting up and binding the plane on a DX9, the plane worked just fine. While setting up the DX9, I turned off the DX-18. After getting the plane to work on the DX9, I switched the 9 off and turned the 18 back on. Once the 18 was back on and rebound, the aux channels were working again on the transmitter's monitor, w/o changing a thing. The plane's controls on the Aux channels now worked. Previously I had rebound the 18 to the plane several times and the aux channels would not work. Also the plane worked just fine days before on the 18. ???
Anyone ever see the Aux channels all work O.K., then all of a sudden not work, and then start working again? I am replacing the Rxer as the one that is in there is a JR 12 channel DSM2 Rxer. I am not sure if I can trust the setup now. Also,I'll be sticking to the cheaper planes for a while until I get this one figured out.
The good part about this is I now need to figure out what new Jet to buy. The bad part is I have to regain trust in the transmitter.

Will do. This has been a darned reliable transmitter, even before it was green dotted. I hate to pull it from my gear cause I have to make all new models in the DX9. But with the Jet "out of service," so to speak, now is probably a good time.

Andy,
Thanks for the info...Graves is about 1/2 hr. ride for me and I understand that I can purchase from some other places but I am thinking if the supplier (Horizon/Spektrum) has discontinued them , then I don't see an advantage in purchasing someone's "old Stock" if you know what I mean. So I will wait until this shakes out to see what happens. Thanks for the tips though.
Len,
Sorry for your loss...hope it gets sorted out. I am using the receiver that came with the transmitter... a 9020 unit...I am not sure it comes with telemetry but now that you bring that point up, I will investigate. Thanks for your input and again, sorry for your loss...If it happened to me, they would have to put me in the funny farm...although most people believe I am an escapee already.

Andy - Why are they discontinuing the TM1000? Or, ... Did they just change the stock number like they did on the Optical RPM Sensors? Are they moving toward all new high end Spectrum RXer's including telemetry? I have partial telemetry on several of my receivers. But, I mainly use the TM 1000 with JC interface on the Jet Cats and all the gas planes. Hate to see the product go. Although, ... I have several TM1000s in the drawer. I tend to pull them out of the gas planes once I get the RPM/Props set.

Hi Len,
We've only ever had 1 optical RPM sensor, the SPM1452. It's for cars (the SPM1xxx means surface). With a connector change you can make it work with your TM1000 or AR*350, but it's not something we sell or support.
As for the TM1000, when people started buying the new receivers with telemetry integrated (something they begged for us to do for years) instead of TM1000's, what were we supposed to do? We don't stock something if people decide to buy the integrated package instead.
I haven't bought one in a few years myself - I have receivers to do that job for me now.

Andy;
Maybe sensor is the wrong word. I was referring to the "Evolution RPM Telemetry Adapter."
http://www.horizonhobby.com/evolutio...dapter-evoa113
Also, the SPM1452 works great on airplane. You are right. To get it tied to a TM1000, one has to make an adapter of some sort. I just cut off the end of a telemetry extension harness, cut off the JR connector on the sensor and splice the telemetry harness into the sensor. Got to watch the wiring pinout match though.
The EVOA113 plugs right into TM-1000 and works on DLE and EVO. On the DLE it plugs right into the CDI's RPM output. No RPM output on a DA's CDI though. This is where the SPM1452 comes in handy.
These are great setups to get the Prop/RPM set up correctly, also monitor various engine temps and get the carb tuned correctly. Then, after everything is set up correctly, frequently I pull the rig out. Do NOT want to lose it when the plane eventually dies.

Go to the Telemetry screen.
Remove the temperature sensor from the list.
With the aircraft operating, go to the Settings screen.
Select Auto-Config.
Does that fix it? The --- means one of three things - it needs to be auto-config'd (which we just fixed), or no sensor attached, or sensor attached incorrectly.

Quick question. Have a DX18 Gen1, less then five months old. First got it and ended up having to recalibrate it. Did so at the direction of your staff after going through everything else. Was test hoping a Giant P-51 on Monday and after a half a flight the elevator trim went into full climb mode. I was able to get the nose down and give full down trim, then tried to land. I assumed something had shifted the CG. Well the landing was less then favorable shall we say- need a new wing. So took the p[lane home and went over everything that could have shifted in the fuse and checked all of the rigging to the elevator- everything was in place and secure. Any ideas if the calibration maybe went off again? Looking for the problem and would like to know if there is an easy way to check that.

Is it only the Gen 2 DX18 the has the flight mode table? My Gen 1 DX18 doesn't seem to have this table and the ability to assign flight modes to certain switch position?
I do get all five flight modes, but no way to say flight mode 1-5 is while in a certain switch configuration

Model type is Airplane
with 2Ailerons, 1Flap, 1 elevator, 2 Rudders
Flight mode was set switch 1 D
switch 2 E
after selecting the 2 switches for a total of 5 flight modes enabled, there is no next tab at the bottom right of the screen to get to flight mode table.
